Chapter 217: Hunters Assemble Part I
Chapter 217: Hunters Assemble Part I
The cheering sound was still resounding on the Light Ring grandstand continuously, even though the event was in a cool-down break for the competitors. It looked like the battles from the qualifying round had made everyone heated up already. And that was why thousands of people were singing cheerful songs enjoyingly!
Unlike a woman who was standing on the highest floor in the east of the grandstand. ...She was dressed up in a long brown coat with a hood that almost completely covered her head. She was also wearing a half-faced, white mask that only revealed her lips that were stretching out without smiling.
Her beautiful amber eyes behind the mask were gazing at the center of Dores town. ...She was looking straight at the group of competitors of the Hunting Gate who were many hundred meters away from her with bare eyes. But she was able to see them clearly like she had eyes like an eagle’s.
And the one whom she was staring at without even blinking was, ...Wisana.
After she found the young man who was the owner of amber eyes that looked like hers, she curled her lips up, looking like a smile, before holding her hand up to adjust the mask in place...
“You’re here to observe your son’s growth?”
A gentle voice of someone spoke up, making the slim woman pause instantly. It could not be sure what mood the face behind the mask was showing, but her plumped pink lips let out a long sigh.
“I haven’t heard your voice for quite a while, but you seem to like sneaking up on people without any fear for your life still, Sander.” The masked lady said with a slight smile. “Wait, I should call you Dr. Saran now, huh.”
“My full name getting called by you sounds so weird.”
The man who was standing behind her put on a grin, scratching his head. He brought a cigarette out and had it between his lips, before walking up to be by the side of this masked lady.
When he was about to summon fire to his fingertip to light the cigarette, the lady did it for him first by holding up her hand with a small fire on her palm to Sander, making him pause. But then he chuckled and leaned closer to light the cigarette with amused laughter.
“You haven’t changed at all either, Viola. Even though you got married and have three kids already, your stiff manner still hasn’t been fixed at all.”
“That’s just who I am. Why would I fix that?” She flicked her hand and the fire died out. Then she gazed at Sander. “And don’t call me Viola ever again. That name’s been dead to the world for so many years. Also, currently, I’m single.”
“Right.” Sander smiled slightly, before inhaling the smoke to fill his lungs. “Then I’m dying to know what the former number one player in the game with the alias ‘Goddess of War’ is doing here today after she announced that she would quit Pride for the rest of her life?”
The one who was referred to about her past let out a long sigh, before staring down at Wisana again.
“Probably not here just to watch her son’s growth. Right?” Sander asked in a joking tone, drawing those amber eyes back to gazing at him.
“How did you know that he’s my son?”
Sander chuckled at that question.
“It was obvious with his movements and attack that happened to be like the first female Olympic gold medal of Thailand. And he once told me that he was trained in self-defense martial arts by his mom who was brutal like a demon since he was a kid as well. And there’re not many freak moms like this in the world.”
The masked lady named Viola slipped out a laugh at his words. And those ember eyes that were looking at Wisana on the enormous screens in the center of the Light Ring now seemed to be softer like she was endearing him.
“This kid has such a loudmouth.”
“Let me guess, your son has no idea about you playing this game before, nor about you being so skilled at it like a freak monster as well.”
“Well, there’s no need for him to know about this.” Then she grinned.
“But sneaking behind his back like this, how would he react, if he saw you here?”
“That’s why I cover myself entirely like this. It’s kind of hot in here, too, you know.”
Hearing that, the middle-aged man shook his head with an amused smile, before putting the cigarette back in his mouth again.
“So, why are you here exactly?”
Sander repeated the same question. And the one who was asked like Viola pressed her lips into a straight thin line again. She sighed softly, before looking up at the sky wearily.
“Alice contacted me.”
“What?”
Sander paused at her words. His rough hand managed to keep the cigarette out of his mouth.
“Alice who you’re talking about, you mean...”
“Yeah, who else could that be.” Then she exhaled a long sigh.
“What did she want?”
“She reached me to ask for my permission for the boy.”
Sander looked down, throwing the cigarette on the ground, and crushing it with his foot as he had a cold expression on his face.
“And you said yes?” He asked.
“Do you think I had many options, Sander?” She replied tiredly. “After I got a contact from Alice, at first, I doubted that I was being mocked. Because the kid had hated games for as long as I could remember. He always refused to play, even though his sisters insisted that he should play. All he ever did was cling to me like a baby monkey.”
Then she put on an amused smile. Thinking about her son always brought a smile to her face. But it did not last long before her expression changed into withered.
“Since then, I’ve followed the Pride again, until I saw the news about a young man who defeated Lord Inferno with just three members party and only 18 minutes in fighting.”
“Vincent, right?” Sander completed her sentence wearily. “Anyway, do you know that the boy even has two types of Signetics in him?”
“Who told you there were only two...?”
Sander was stunned at those words. His eyes rolled back to stare at Viola again.
“What do you mean by that?”
“On the day that I talked to Alice, she told me that the Door of the Emperor was about to open soon.”
Hearing that, he closed his eyes slowly, before looking up at the sky again and letting out the longest sigh that he had ever done.
“It means that it’s almost time, huh?”
“Yeah, it’s almost time, Sander.” Viola smiled wryly.
“Do you think your son will be able to take it?”
The question made the lady look down at Wisana again. She was staring at him with a mixed expression. Even though she could force a smile up finally, it was a completely plain smile.
“I tried my best to prepare him for this since he was a kid, both physically and mentally. So, the rest will be up to him how much will he be able to take the pressure from all this.”
Sander nodded at that.
“What are you going to do next?”
Hearing the question, she made a snorting sound out of her throat. She held up her right hand which was curling tightly into a fist for Sander to see, making him raise his eyebrows and smile slightly at last.
“Right now, I want to punch that guy in the face the most!” Then she smiled savagely. “...I know that we’ve agreed to have our son make his own decision, but he just let him into Pride like this, without telling me at all. If Alice hadn’t contacted me, would I even know what had happened to my son in this life?”
