Chapter 848 - 1 vs 6

Chapter 848 - 1 vs 6

The power was indeed impressive, but still not enough... Terrance thought to himself.

At the same time, seeing Terrance’s calm expression, Tonpa panicked. He hadn’t expected his trump card to be so utterly ineffective.

"Typhlosion, use Rollout to launch yourself into the air!"

Under the piercing Psyshock, Typhlosion was blasted out of the sea of flames, sent flying backward and scraping continuously along the ground.

Seeing this, Tonpa immediately regained his composure and issued another command. In the next instant, Typhlosion endured the pain, curled its body up tightly, turned into a rolling sphere on the ground, then used a chunk of rubble to bounce itself up into the air.

"Catch it, then throw it down," Terrance said, raising his head.

"It’s useless. Typhlosion, use Aerial Ace!"

The moment Terrance finished speaking, Tonpa shouted his command.

As Gardevoir’s Confusion enveloped the area, Typhlosion abruptly changed direction, shifting its position at incredible speed.

A Typhlosion that had mastered Aerial Ace was extremely rare. Noticing the opponent’s agility, Terrance narrowed his eyes, but showed no outward reaction.

Although he had given an order, it pointed directly to the goal; capture Typhlosion and knock it down.

Terrance hadn’t specified how Gardevoir should accomplish this goal, and Gardevoir, naturally, did not disappoint him.

The pupils of the Typhlosion that had just swiftly evaded Gardevoir’s Confusion suddenly contracted, lifting its head in despair.

High in the sky, a vortex appeared out of thin air, accompanied by a powerful mass of psychic power that came crashing down toward it.

"It’s... Future Sight..." Tonpa’s follow-up command caught in his throat as he stared blankly at Typhlosion being blasted down, his expression frozen.

"Not bad, not bad. It hasn’t been long at all, and this Gardevoir is already getting better and better at using its new-found strength," several Top Trainers watching the battle laughed, their reactions starkly different from Tonpa’s turbulent emotions.

The psychic power slammed Typhlosion into the ground, blasting out a massive crater. The force was so overwhelming that it completely eliminated any chance of Typhlosion standing back up. In the Champion League, both contestants fight with everything they have; if there’s even the slightest opportunity, no one holds back, lest the opponent turn the tables. Terrance and Gardevoir had clearly done exactly that.

Having gradually adapted to its power through toying with Gengar, Gardevoir finally began to reveal its true strength!

"Contestant Tonpa has lost three Pokémon. Five-minute break."

As Tonpa recalled Typhlosion, the referee announced.

The words "five-minute break" allowed Tonpa, whose heart was pounding wildly, to take a brief breath. His expression was grave as he pondered how he could deal with this terrifyingly powerful Gardevoir using his remaining three Pokémon, but in the next moment, Tonpa suddenly snapped awake.

"Gardevoir isn’t his only Pokémon... I’ve been treating Gardevoir as the sole target to defeat, instead of the Trainer himself..."

Realizing this, Tonpa grew restless. The three battles just now had made him fully understand the gap between himself and a true top-tier powerhouse...

Typhlosion—it was his Starter Pokémon, his ace that only fell after taking down two of his opponent’s Pokémon in the finals of the Ever Grande Conference. And yet, such a Pokémon couldn’t withstand a single attack... Tonpa was clearly dejected.

The five minutes passed quickly. Tonpa didn’t forfeit, which surprised some of the spectators.

On Terrance’s side, he still chose Gardevoir. On Tonpa’s side, he sent out a Jumpluff.

"Tonpa is already at the end of the road." Nine seconds later, when Jumpluff lost its ability to battle, the same thought surfaced in the minds of the audience.

Even after enduring "Draining Kiss," "Heal Pulse," and "Dream Eater," across four consecutive battles, Gardevoir had barely expended any stamina at all.

"This Gardevoir is simply too perfect. Its rate of improvement is visible to the naked eye. After just the time it took for three battles, it has completely mastered its post-evolution body and power," Glacia said.

Though she specialized in Ice-types, even Glacia couldn’t help but voice her amazement and envy upon witnessing Gardevoir’s astonishing growth.

On the other side, after realizing that he was completely unable to stand up to Terrance, Tonpa went completely berserk. He abandoned all strategy, and his remaining two Pokémon charged at Gardevoir in what was practically a suicidal assault.

But in the end, they were still mercilessly defeated by Gardevoir one after another.

"Only about a tenth of its stamina was consumed, and it won using Psychic-type moves alone. There wasn’t even any need for Fairy-type moves to come into play... As for Gardevoir’s true strength, it probably didn’t even show one-fifth of it. Those combo moves never even got the chance to appear."

When the last Pokémon was defeated by Gardevoir, Tonpa seemed to lose all the strength in his body and collapsed onto the ground. He had never fought such a hopeless battle.

At the same time, Terrance let out a quiet sigh inwardly. He naturally had no time to care about his opponent’s feelings. The meaning of this battle was simply to let Gardevoir adapt to its new body.

If it had still been Kirlia, there might have been a fierce, evenly matched struggle between him and Tonpa. Unfortunately, Kirlia had evolved, and the power after evolution was such that even Top Trainers would have to tread carefully, let alone Tonpa, a rookie who had just stepped out of the Ever Grande Conference.

One versus six!!

Not long after the referee announced the result, a roar erupted from the audience.

"It really was one versus six!!"

Seeing a one-against-six victory in the Champion League was a rare sight. The spectators seemed to have gained yet another juicy topic of discussion, and the chatter immediately erupted.

...

...

On the rostrum, Steven had watched the entire battle from start to finish. Seeing Terrance decisively claim victory with a one-versus-six, he laughed.

"After all, he’s a Contest Master. Dealing with a rookie is quite easy. His truly evenly matched opponents are still to come."

"Is that so..."

Hearing Steven’s comment, Phoebe spoke up. "Hmm... that’s about it, I suppose. Still, I think he’ll lose to Mr. Norman."

"That’s right. Mr. Norman is the real gatekeeper of the Hoenn League contestants. With him around, we Elite Four haven’t been challenged in quite a long time," Glacia said with a smile.

Steven helplessly waved his hand in response, not refuting their views. After all, he had fought Mr. Norman himself, and it hadn’t been an easy win.

"Mr. Terrance, this way please..." As Terrance exited the arena, in order to avoid the media, his assistant Sharan immediately arranged an exit route for him.

"Today was the opening match. After dodging them a few more times, there should be fewer people chasing me for interviews, right?" Terrance said, shaking his head as he followed behind Sharan.

"In theory, yes, but only if... you don’t keep stealing the spotlight."

"Heh, naturally," Terrance replied with a smile.

"By the way, the next match is in eleven days. During this time, are you planning to stay in Ever Grande City, or go somewhere else?" With the match over, Sharan didn’t forget her duties and asked at once. If Terrance planned to go elsewhere, she would need to arrange plane tickets or an S.S. Ticket as soon as possible.

"I won’t be staying. We’re going to Mauville City," Terrance said calmly. Next, he intended to explore that mysterious ruin in the Hoenn Desert.

Eleven days... might be enough.
