Chapter 884: CH263 (877), Revolting But Absolutely Sensational
'Talents: Treasure Body'
Seeing Treasure Body displayed there, I directly opened the description and began to read through it for details. As I read through the description, I involuntarily started to shudder. A small surge of nausea began to rise unbidden, but I truly couldn't help it since the realization of what exactly the stuff causing the Pokémon living in the channel to advance more easily and mutate on occasion was causing me to feel a bit repulsed.
All that obviously came from Relicanth's body. However, shed scales aside, the rest of the "miraculous" substances were comprised of either his blood, saliva, piss, or excrement. Once that stuff left his body, it got washed down the channel and eventually got absorbed by the ground/rocks, vegetation, fish, or Pokémon.
Yet, since Treasure Body turned the entirety of Relicanth's body into a natural treasure the waste he produced and released did indeed count as miracle substances instead of mere waste no matter how repulsive it felt or seemed. According to what I was reading, ingesting or absorbing part of Relicanth's body, whether that be scales, teeth, flesh, bones, blood, saliva, piss, or shit, could accelerate growth (literally and training-wise) as well as recovery of an individual, loosen and stimulate shackles (genetical or potenial-wise), induce evolution, and promote fertility/productivity.
It was worthy of the word miracle and mirrored some of Utopia's functions, which was quite impressive. However, no matter how one spun it, the idea that some Pokémon happily ate Relicanth's shit while thinking it was a treasure made me feel a bit disgusted. Scratch that it made me more than a bit disgusted, even if the notion was actually true due to Relicanth's natural treasure body.
I could accept the blood bit, I was using blood in many of my projects and creations after all, but saliva, piss, and excrement were where I personally drew the line, especially the latter. The thought alone had me feel nauseous. I was sure some would see that as an overly privileged mindset. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't, but I honestly did not care. One had to draw the line somewhere, and that was a line I refused to cross.
Ingesting either of those three was too much for me. Using them to create fertilizer or mulch was still okay but consumption or direct application was impossible. Taking a deep breath, I took a moment to calm my mind before focusing back on the text. It appeared that the stronger Relicanth became, the stronger the effect of his body would become, though that was not surprising since that pretty much applied to regular Pokémon as well.
Still, for them, it was only in the parts that were actually important unlike with Relicanth's body where even excrement became a treasure. More importantly, at least for Relicanth, was that Treasure Body turned him virtually immortal, or more specifically ageless and immune to disease. As long as Relicanth was not killed, he would not die.
He was truly worthy of his rock typing and the title Longevity Pokemon, unlike other Relicanth that did not have the same incredible lifespan that regular rock types had. For all we knew, the guy could be millions of years old, having slowly made his way to his current strength and even potential through the accumulation of time instead of hard training. That did not mean that he did not train, but that it was possible that he didn't do much.
Nonetheless, given his value and the way the Pokémon world worked, I doubted that that was the case; Unless Relicanth hid away somewhere until he was confident that others couldn't deal with him. Honestly, looking at him now, and adding the fact that the (general) outside (human) world did not know about him kind of implied that Relicanth has likely been lazing around at this place for a thousand years or more.
Still, lazy or not, I did not dare to underestimate his current strength. I was well aware that we stood no chance against Relicanth on our own, and even adding all the platinum ghosts was unlikely to allow us to match him. Not to mention that Relicanth was guaranteed to receive reinforcements once the battle noise attracted the attention of the channel dwellers.
I did not believe that we could manage to perform any kind of noise-canceling operation while fighting Relicanth. Not that I was planning to start a fight that I knew we could not win no matter how attractive Relicanth's talent was. Relicanth's talent was way too valuable to ignore, so reporting him would be my first major contribution to humanity and the alliance. I still believed that an elder had visited the place and seen or even clashed with Relicanth, but that was just a strength-focused altercation.
I was sure that they had no idea what Relicanth, or rather his body was capable of. I did not believe that they would have left him alone otherwise. Naturally, the whole Elder investigation thing was just a conjecture of mine, a highly probable one but still not a confirmed case, so all of this was just what I imagined could have happened. Nonetheless, whether it happened or not, Relicanth's talent was a fact, and if handled correctly, capturing him could be a major boon to humanity.
That naturally required that Relicanth was handled in a conscientious as well as fair manner, and if I had to be honest, the only one I knew that I trusted to handle the issue in such a manner was the good old Professor. While I trusted Mr.Cameron, I was not sure if he would prioritize the Aura Guardians over the rest of the alliance since that was likely where his primary loyalties lay. Professor Oak on the other hand had proven time and time again what kind of person he was, and I had personally confirmed that history was not exaggerating.
Samuel Oak was just as much of a good guy as the books portrayed him to be. He might play favorites with a few individuals he felt were contributing now or could contribute to humanity and the alliance in the future, but he would not place one organization or group over the other. I was certain that Professor Oak would handle the Relicanth issue to the best of his abilities, and I was confident that no one, myself included, could stay as impartial/fair as Professor Oak.
Still, just because I was willing to cede Relicanth, it did not mean that I was not interested in its body, so I chose to take a look around to see if we could spot any fallen scales or fangs that we could pick up. Unlike blood, those still fell under the category of materials Utopia could copy, though given Relicanth's strength and their suspected grade, we would likely have to wait a while until Utopia can reproduce them.
However, it was still worth the wait since it would give us a way to add to Utopia's magic, raising the odds of special Pokémon appearing among the Utopians. If I was right we still had roughly 10 to 15 minutes until the Overlords arrived near this place, unless one of them rushed ahead without waiting for all of them to gather. In that case, we likely had less than 5 minutes before we had to face a possible hostile. For obvious reasons, I did not want to start any confrontation this close to Relicanth, lest he woke up and decided to deal with the disturbance.
Hence, I told everyone to check the area/ground around Relicanth for any scales, fangs, or other suspicious objects. I was surprised when no one announced having found something even after more than 3 minutes had passed. Given that we were beside Relicanth I had thought that we would find quite a few shed things, but reality was proving otherwise. Thankfully, just then Manami/Lapras released thrill, declaring that she had found a scale.
Everyone tried to swim toward her to take a look, but I told them to continue looking since we were in a hurry. After nodding happily when they resumed their search, I went up to her to Observe the scale Manami found. I had to make sure that it was what we were looking for after all.
'Name: Mutant Relicanth's Scale
Type: Water, Rock
Class: A++
Description: A postdorsal scale shed by a Mutant Relicanth containing potent water and rock-type energy. Due to the Relicanth's mutated body, the scale also contains a special form of energy that is capable of triggering various changes in Pokémon. If processed, the scale can be used to aid the development of those ingesting the resulting product.'
I was happy that the scale was indeed from Relicanth. Still, this was the first time I was seeing a ++ behind an object's rating, but it was not hard to guess that it implied that the object was very close to the next grade. I had hoped that the scale would be an S-class one since it came from a Stage 7 Pokémon, but I was not too surprised that it ended up being below the S-Class. I was used to differing ratings of seemingly identical objects since not all scales/objects on a Pokémon's body were equal after all.
The special energy mentioned in the description was obviously due to Relicanth's Treasure Body, and the effects of the scale described here came pretty close to what the Treasure Body talent's description mentioned. The one thing that about the A++ rating that was favorable to us was that it would allow Utopia to copy it earlier than it would have been able to do if it had been a S-Class scale.
Not that it made a difference right now since Utopia could currently optimize or reproduce neither A nor S-class objects, but it did shorten the time we would have to wait by a few years if not decades. Anyway, moments after I put the scale away and praised Manami for finding it, Kun/Azuraid declared that he had found a scale as well, so I gave Manami a final pat on the head and told her to keep looking if she could find anything else before I made my way toward Kun.
He proudly pointed towards the scale on the ground, and I gave him a thumbs up before I lifted the scale with my telekinesis. I naturally lost no time to Observe it as it was being carried over, and I was very happy with what I saw.
'Name: Mutant Relicanth's Scale
Type: Water, Rock
Class: S-
Description: A predorsal scale shed by a Mutant Relicanth containing potent water and rock-type energy. As a result of the Relicanth's special body, the scale contains an extraordinary form of life energy capable of initiating varied transformations in Pokémon. If processed, the scale can benefit the development of those ingesting the resulting product.'
It had looked pretty similar to the previous scale, and its name confirmed that it was another one of Relicanth's scales, though this one was of a higher class, fulfilling my previous expectations. The S- rating might not be a particularly good one among S Class objects, but it was still the highest I have seen until now.
That aside, I noticed that the description slightly differed from the previous one, and I directly noted that the two scales came from different areas on Relicanth's body, which could very well be the reason their ratings varied. The description also specified that the energy capable of causing changes was an extraordinary form of life energy, and as nearly all Aura Users would tell you, Aura was life energy.
I did not believe that it was the same Aura I/we used, but it was interesting to note since it did not come up in Treasure Body's talent description. Either way, I put the scale away and praised Kun for finding it before telling him that he should also continue his search. Following those two lucky finds, another period of quiet searching ensued. Unfortunately, an angry roar interrupted the quiet, distracting everyone.
There was no doubt that the one who roared was a Gyarados, and I somehow had a feeling it was the Overlord that had stared at us and teased Abyss/Gyarados. Since we had found the scales I wanted and seeing how we would be unable to do anything with/to Relicanth, I considered simply retreating. One or two Teleport(s) would be enough for us to return to the main chamber, but feeling the eagerness of everyone around me I hesitated.
I asked them what they wanted to do over the telepatic channel, and they all wanted to try fighting the Overlords. I sighed at that, but considered it for a moment. Because I was confident that we could handle it, I chose to fulfill their request, and they all cheered when they heard my verdict.
I led them away from Relicanth toward Gyarados to keep the battle away from the sleeping Titan since I wanted to avoid disturbing him by accident. Mere moments after we began swimming toward Gyarados, Jade/Gyarados released a happy shout, declaring that she had found a scale as well, so I quickly swam up to her and Observed the scale she was pointing at with her tail.
