Chapter 565 - 557: Face-to-Face Confrontation with Charles (Part 1)
Only Ji Mingyue would think he didn’t look like a good sort.
It was still best to pull her away and shut her mouth, lest she cause trouble with her words, Ji Anning thought as she grabbed Ji Mingyue’s arm, dragging her behind herself, and then with a slight smile negotiated with Charles, "Mr. Charles, I’ll visit you another day, as I’m afraid I won’t be able to make it today."
As she reached out to hold Fenfen, Charles raised his hand, gripping one of Fenfen’s little hands, and with a smile said, "It happens to be dinner time, let me treat you and the Fourth Miss to a meal."
Just as Ji Anning was about to decline, Ji Mingyue’s voice preempted hers in agreement, "Sure."
She accepted briskly, her chin lifted slightly, the corners of her mouth curled into a cunning cold smile, clearly scheming something.
Even she could see it, and the clever Charles, how could he not see it? Ji Anning found Ji Mingyue to be a real headache, originally she had even thought of using her as an excuse to deflect, but now that was off the table.
Charles met Ji Mingyue’s cunning smile with a faint remark, "Fourth Miss is really straightforward, very different from your father."
Ji Mingyue failed to grasp Charles’ real implication, thinking he was just trying to get overly familiar, and disdainfully rolled her eyes at him, "You talk as if you’re so close to my dad, I hate you people who try to force relationships."
Ji Anning was completely speechless.
She could find no reason to refuse having dinner with Charles unless she outright resisted, but that would surely anger Charles, with unthinkable consequences.
After weighing her options for a long time, she ultimately gave up.
The restaurant was chosen by Ji Mingyue, and Ji Anning finally understood why she had that sly smile earlier when she heard the name of the restaurant.
It turned out she wanted to fleece Charles thoroughly, to make him lose face.
She had picked the most upscale restaurant in N City, where a moderately decent meal cost into the seven figures, and it was also the most expensive restaurant worldwide.
She really thought Charles was some small-time businessman, eager to cling onto the Ji Family’s coattails.
When Charles heard the name of the restaurant Ji Mingyue mentioned, he actually burst out in laughter.
His laughter was youthful, his cheerful laughing voice magnetic, "Fourth Miss is quite adorable."
Ji Mingyue stuck out her tongue in disgust, then leaned in to whisper in Ji Anning’s ear, "Exactly how do you know this old man?"
Ji Anning didn’t leave her side but walked over to take Fenfen from Charles, heading towards Charles’ car.
She had already noticed a stretch Lincoln parked by the roadside; Charles liked Lincolns and had many models, but his favorite was this stretch version.
So she was certain that car was Charles’.
After all, it was the world’s most upscale restaurant, frequented by wealthy tycoons, and to prevent criminals from entering, the security checks were as stringent as those for boarding an airplane.
There were also dress code requirements, too casual and you wouldn’t be admitted.
Watching people pass the security check, Ji Anning prepared to hand over her bag to be screened, but when she reached the checkpoint, the security officer nodded politely at her, gesturing for her to go directly through.
Of course, Ji Mingyue and Charles following her were the same, exempted from the security check.
Ji Anning was taken aback for a moment, her thoughts immediately turned to Charles, but when she turned her head, she was met with Ji Mingyue’s triumphant smile.
What’s this? Was it her doing?
Ji Mingyue crossed her arms over her chest, twisting her slender waist confidently, "With me, do we even need a security check?"
