Pampered by My Ex's Cousin

Chapter 539 - 531: Jealousy (Ten)

Chapter 539 - 531: Jealousy (Ten)

Ji Chicheng leaned his head back on the sofa, and after Fenfen cried for a while, she forgot the pain from hitting her face earlier and became mischievous again, crawling back and forth on Ji Chicheng’s legs.

She was unbearably noisy.

Yet, even so, it could not fill the emptiness in his heart.

Due to back pain, Anning did not go downstairs for dinner, and even when the meals were brought to her room by the maid, she couldn’t eat.

Ultimately unable to bear it and completely let go, Ji Chicheng called the ambulance and had Anning taken to the hospital.

He told the maid to go to the hospital with her but did not go himself.

Whether at home or abroad, hospitals are always filled with the smell of disinfectant. Anning lay on the bed while the doctor pressed on her back in various places, asking if it hurt.

This hospital was the most famous orthopedic hospital in City N, phenomenal in treating sprains, fractures, and the like.

The doctor pressed on a spot, then decided to take an X-ray. The results showed a slight fracture in the lumbar vertebrae, requiring hospitalization for treatment.

In the monotonous hospital life, Anning got to know many of the nurses and was daily accompanied only by the family maid.

On the fifth day of her hospitalization, the doctor told her that she could use a wheelchair to go out and enjoy the sunlight.

In this season, withered yellow leaves were everywhere. Today, the sunlight was quite nice as Anning sat in her wheelchair, pushed by the maid.

They reached the hospital’s activity area where a group of American kids were playing and laughing loudly. Anning couldn’t help but think of Fenfen, "Auntie, has Fenfen been good these past days?"

The maid replied, "Mr. Ji takes her to the office every day, and the little girl is really happy about it."

"Oh," Anning nodded, feeling a bit let down, "I’ve been hospitalized for five days now; doesn’t she clamor to come see me?"

The maid, understanding her sense of loss, replied with a laugh, "I’ll talk to Mr. Ji tonight and ask him to bring Fenfen to see you."

Upon hearing this, Anning quickly shook her head, "Don’t... no need to mention it."

Just then, several nurses hurried past her, apparently responding to an emergency call, whispering among themselves as they ran.

"Some foreign exchange students street racing and fighting, several of them got their heads cracked open."

"Oh, my goodness."

"...."

Stories about students street racing and fighting were common.

Anning just listened and did not pay much attention.

After being outside for a while, although the sunlight was nice, it was still a bit chilly. A cold wind made her shiver, and she hugged her arms as she said to the maid, "Let’s go to Doctor Chisen’s place, didn’t he say he needed to change my dressing?"

The maid asked, "Not changing it in your room?"

Anning frowned, "I’ve been cooped up in that room for five days, I’m sick of it; let’s go to Doctor Chisen’s office instead."

After asking about Fenfen’s situation earlier, she had felt gloomy and irritable up to now.

Chisen was her attending physician and an authoritative orthopedic specialist in this hospital.

Since she wanted to go, the maid had no choice but to push her there.

The two chatted as they made their way to the outpatient clinic, passing by the emergency room entrance which was crowded with many young people around her age.

However, to her surprise, most of these youths had the same black hair and oriental features as hers.

She even heard them speaking Chinese.

This caught Anning’s attention more than usual; the area was very crowded and noisy, with a mix of Chinese and English, making it hard to discern what exactly they were talking about.

Seeing such a lively scene, the maid also slowed her pace, but did not stop.
