Chapter 531 - 523: Jealousy (Part Two)

"Uh..."

Beige wasn’t a heavy sleeper, the slightest increase in volume from the TV would startle her awake, and opening her eyes groggily, she was surprised to see Ji Anning standing by her side.

Rubbing her eyes, she languidly sat up, "Miss Anning, why are you up so early?"

"You... why are you sleeping on the couch?" Ji Anning asked, puzzled.

Beige smiled, "These past two years with the boss drinking so often, I’ve gotten used to it."

After saying this, she raised her arms, stretching, and then looked at Ji Anning, "Now that you’re awake, Miss Anning, I’ll head back; I still have work during the day."

’These past two years with the boss drinking so often...’

With every detail Ji Anning learned about Ji Chicheng’s life these past two years, her heart ached anew.

Beige’s words echoed in her ears, and she sat dazed for a while; by the time she came back to her senses, Beige was already at the door. Watching her, Ji Anning suddenly felt a twinge of guilt, a touch of heartache.

She didn’t know why she felt guilty, but she knew the heartache was because Beige’s love was so clear.

Compared to her, she really fell short.

Sitting on the couch lost in thought, it was still early, so Ji Anning tiptoed into the kitchen and began preparing breakfast with whatever was in the fridge.

Back when she was with the Ji Family, she couldn’t cook at all. It was only after she moved into the apartment Jiahao provided for her that she began to learn, progressing from simple to complex dishes.

"Miss Anning."

Ji Anning had just readied all the ingredients when the housekeeper came in.

Seeing her busy with the breakfast, the housekeeper grew anxious and hurried over, saying, "I can take care of this."

While speaking, she reached out to take the spatula from Ji Anning’s hand, but Ji Anning gently pushed her away, "No need, I haven’t made breakfast for Fenfen in so long. Let me do it, you go tend to something else."

Hearing this, the housekeeper paused in her attempt to take over, "Well... okay, then."

She withdrew her hand, casting a worried glance at Ji Anning before turning to leave, giving the kitchen over to her.

Often having made breakfast for Fenfen in L City, Ji Anning had reached a stage where she was quite skilled. However, due to her waist injury, it took her a bit longer this time.

Looking at the table set with three carefully prepared breakfasts, all balanced in nutrition, Ji Anning felt a full sense of accomplishment alongside a flicker of happiness she couldn’t suppress.

It was like knowing something was wrong, that no one would approve of it, that it could harm many, yet selfishly reveling in it.

"Miss Anning, you really can cook," the housekeeper, still unconvinced, came back to check and was full of praise upon seeing Ji Anning’s handiwork, "This spread looks so appetizing."

Ji Anning modestly smiled, "It’s not as good as what you make."

Saying this, she took off her apron, and then as if something occurred to her, she told the housekeeper, "Oh, and don’t tell Mr. Ji that I made this. Say it was you."

"Why?" the housekeeper asked curiously.

Ji Anning gave a bitter smile, "If he knows it’s from me, he probably won’t eat it, so just do as I say."

Having had no sleep all night, she felt sleepy after busying herself in the kitchen.

She neatly folded the apron and placed it on the dining table, but still feeling uneasy, she reminded the housekeeper again, "Please don’t tell Mr. Ji."

The housekeeper nodded in understanding.

With Fenfen sleeping in her room, Ji Anning was worried that going upstairs might wake her, so she decided to lie down on the couch, using the blanket Beige had left there from her sleep.
