When Ji Anning first heard these words, her heart stirred uncontrollably, but how could she stay here?

If she stayed here, could she still control her heart?

Ji Anning looked at the man in front of her, facing the bright light.

His handsome face, even filled with hatred, his presence, even dark and fierce, was still that dazzling Ji Chicheng.

Over two years had gone by, and towards his face, his tall figure, his presence, she still had not an ounce of resistance.

The only thing forcing her to control herself was the thought, "He is your uncle by marriage, you are uncle and niece."

The silence of the night was broken only by the sound of a car engine.

Suddenly, a crisp and tender voice came from the yard, breaking the solemn atmosphere.

"Mommy!"

Fenfen, dressed in a floral pajama, holding a fluffy toy, happily ran toward the entrance of the yard. Ji Anning’s eyes lit with excitement, and her heart, that hurt to the point of breathlessness, revived with full vigor.

She immediately stood up straight and ran past Ji Chicheng to greet Fenfen, "Fenfen."

"Mommy."

Fenfen opened her arms and jumped into Ji Anning’s embrace, affectionately hugging her neck and planting kisses on her face from left to right.

Ji Chicheng turned around, watching the warm scene of mother and daughter, and for a moment, he felt lost; lost in direction, lost in heart.

He nearly walked over to embrace the two of them.

But then reality surged back into his mind; she had heartlessly abandoned him and thrown herself into another man’s arms. She had degraded herself, so why should he degrade himself with her?

He had once tried so hard to explore the truth, but what could discovering the truth change?

Could it change the fact that there was something more important to her than him?

Could it change that her love for him was not as unconditional as he wanted?

Could it change that she had once thought about leaving him?

He had told her so clearly, he loved her, he wanted her, and no one could stop him.

What was the difference between her and the her that had abandoned him?

That memory, buried in the deepest recesses of his heart, one he never wanted to remember or mention, rushed into his mind like a flood.

Suddenly, the little girl called out to him with a clear voice.

It interrupted his thoughts, and as he lifted his head to look over, Fenfen was smiling innocently at him, waving her chubby little hands.

Ji Chicheng’s cold heart melted instantly, he indulgently curved his lips, and gave the adorable child a gentle wink.

Fenfen was still beckoning him, "Daddy, time to eat."

Ji Chicheng was surprised; she had learnt a new phrase. The words "time to eat" were something she did not say before.

He could not help walking over, approaching the mother and daughter, his gaze never leaving Fenfen’s little face.

"Time to eat? Is the food good?" Ji Chicheng lifted his hand, his slender fingers gently poking Fenfen’s chubby cheeks twice, then her neck.

The affection was overwhelming.

Fenfen felt ticklish from the poking, she giggled ’giggles’ non-stop, her little body dramatically trembling and twisting.

Her small body was getting heavier by the moment, and Ji Anning was having difficulty controlling her; carrying her for such a long time was a bit of a strain.

Her hands, one supporting Fenfen’s back to prevent her from leaning back, frowned at her and said, "Fenfen, stop fidgeting, you are going to fall."
