Chapter 444 - 436: From Now On, Strangers? (9)
Ji Anning thanked the doctor, then picked up her medical record book and the B-ultrasound report and stood up, heading for the door.
As she walked, she looked down at the B-ultrasound report in her hand, which she couldn’t actually understand. She could only vaguely make out a small spherical shape, which the doctor had said was the child.
Her eyes softened as she watched, a gentle smile playing on her lips.
After a while, she put the report away and stuffed it into her bag.
It was a busy morning in the department of obstetrics and gynecology, where most people had company, young couples joking and laughing, or mothers and daughters-in-law together.
Ji Anning looked at these different warm scenes with her lips pursed in a bitter tightness, quickening her pace as she left the doors of the obstetrics and gynecology department.
This child, like the last, had a strong reaction. Not to mention throwing up a bit of food in the morning, she had even been vomiting bile, which was why the doctor had said her complexion looked bad.
Already slender, she looked particularly unwell.
"I heard that just now in the delivery room, there was a woman who hemorrhaged so much she nearly died."
"Yeah, the risks that women take when giving birth are just too great."
The elevator was packed with people. When it finally reached the floor, the doors opened, and Ji Chicheng, with his head down, forcefully made his way out of the crowd in the elevator, unstoppable.
Overhearing the idle chat of the two women prepared to enter, his pupils suddenly contracted.
He pushed past the people blocking his way into the elevator, and ran towards the direction of the obstetrics and gynecology department.
Seeing that petite figure moving slowly, Ji Chicheng let out a sigh of relief as if he had walked back from the brink of death.
After hesitating for a moment, he gritted his teeth, his body emanating a cold aura as he strode toward Ji Anning, who was walking this way with her head down, lost in thought.
"Ji Anning!"
Ji Chicheng walked up to Ji Anning, grabbed her by the jaw, and forcefully pinned her against the wall, his eyes red with fury as he glared at Ji Anning.
Pain, hate, hurt—a thin mist shrouded his bright, deep eyes.
Ji Anning’s eyes widened in shock at the abrupt appearance of the man, and her heart clenched hard at the sight of his eyes.
"Speak, who gave you the audacity?" Enraged and confused, Ji Chicheng tightened his grip on Ji Anning’s chin, pushing her upwards.
Ji Anning’s feet nearly left the ground, her breathing becoming difficult, her face turning so red it was almost black.
Seeing this, Ji Chicheng regained a fraction of his rationality and loosened his grip, but his hand still held her securely in place.
Once her feet touched the ground, Ji Anning coughed and gasped for a while. She then looked up coldly at Ji Chicheng, "You’re right, the child is yours, but it would be ridiculous for me to marry Jingfeng while carrying your child, wouldn’t it? Would the child call Jingfeng ’Daddy’ or ’Brother’ after being born?"
She knew that his furious presence here meant he must have assumed the child was gone.
If they couldn’t be together, then let him think the child was gone; maybe this time, he would truly give up.
She would bear any and all consequences that would come after the child was born alone.
Perhaps her love was too timid, too sentimental, but she would rather be hated by him than have him suffer any consequences because of her.
She felt she could now understand why Ji Chicheng’s mother had chosen death over revealing the truth to him, preferring his hatred.
Ji Chicheng’s lips were tightly pursed, his body trembling with an indescribable rage and heartache.
Ji Anning sneered again, "Besides, it’s not like we can’t have children in the future, so why should I keep your child?"
