Chapter 434 - 428: A Huge Joke (Part 5)
Ji Chicheng glanced down at the floor below, and when he saw Ji Anning sitting with Ji Jingfeng, his eyes flickered as if stung by the sight.
He then withdrew his gaze and looked coldly at the elderly man in front of him, "You better not let me find out she has some compelling hardship."
After letting out his harsh words, he turned and went back to his room.
It was only then that Ji Anning lifted her head to look towards the second floor, utterly dazed for a moment. She placed the orange Ji Jingfeng had peeled for her on the coffee table without eating a single segment.
Ji Jingfeng watched her action, a cold smirk lifting the corner of his mouth. He leisurely leaned into Ji Anning’s ear, "Even if it’s just an act, you have to see it through to the end."
As he spoke, he reached out, picked up the orange Ji Anning had put down, peeled a segment, and brought it to her lips.
Ji Anning was about to dodge it, but just then, Mrs. Ji’s gaze met theirs. Seeing this scene, Mrs. Ji exclaimed with a chuckle, "This young couple is so affectionate."
Her remark drew everyone’s attention to Ji Anning and Ji Jingfeng.
With no other option, Ji Anning reluctantly opened her mouth and ate the segment Ji Jingfeng held up to her.
Suddenly, she felt a pair of eyes staring at her. Lifting her eyelids, she looked towards the staircase, where a tall man stood in the middle, looking at her.
He was holding a down jacket in one hand and gripping the stair railing with the other. Despite the distance, Ji Anning could clearly see the veins bulging on the back of his hand.
She indifferently withdrew her gaze and smiled faintly at Ji Jingfeng.
Ji Chicheng stormed downstairs with a face full of anger, and as he passed by everyone, the temperature in the living room seemed to plummet suddenly.
"Chicheng, you’re going out so late?"
Ji Mingyue called out to Ji Chicheng’s retreating back.
Ji Chicheng ignored her. His figure, radiating a chill, disappeared from everyone’s view.
"This kid, he’s never had any manners with me," Ji Mingyue complained, frowning and dissatisfied.
Ji Ruoqian scoffed, "He never took you seriously to begin with."
Attempting to sow discord, she received a stern look from Ji Mingyue, "Stop stirring up trouble. You’re not to meddle in the affairs of your elders."
As she spoke, she also reached out and playfully scraped Ji Ruoqian’s nose.
"Aunt, you’re so annoying," Ji Ruoqian protested dissatisfied.
The bickering between the aunt and niece made Ji Anning feel exceptionally irritable. She glanced at the doorway, where Ji Chicheng’s shadow was no longer visible.
She consoled herself with a tight press of her lips and then told everyone, "I’m feeling a bit sleepy. I’m going upstairs to take a bath and go to bed."
With that, she got up and went upstairs.
...
The morning after breakfast, Ji Anning still felt a bit of nausea. This symptom was becoming increasingly worrisome.
Walking into a pharmacy, perhaps because of her previous experience, or maybe because she was prepared, she didn’t show the same shyness and unease when the clerk asked her questions.
She asked for one of every type of test strip.
Again, all of them showed two lines.
She sat cross-legged on the 1.2-meter-wide bed in her dorm room, staring blankly out the window.
’You two are blood uncle and niece, have you ever thought about what if you have children in the future?’
You two are blood uncle and niece...
You two are blood uncle and niece...
Like a curse, this sentence echoed endlessly in her mind.
In her past life, she must have done many unscrupulous things for the gods to always play jokes on her in this life.
After harboring a secret crush for seven or eight years, just when she thought it could finally bear fruit, the heavens doused her basking in happiness with a bucket of cold reality.
