Chapter 414 - 408: Choice (Part Five)
His dark pupils were tinged with a cold color, sinister and frightening.
She had thought it was the prelude to a storm, but then he suddenly softened his tone, "If it’s about the news, I can explain."
He was someone who never explained himself.
A snowflake had just fallen into Ji Anning’s eyes, masking the tears she couldn’t help but let surface as she scoffed with a cold laugh, "Saying it’s because of the news is close enough, I suppose. I’m afraid of losing Danning as a friend. Our friendship of over a decade, these years without her companionship, might have been even more miserable for me."
Her voice paused for a moment before changing in tone, becoming even colder and more ruthless, "But... it’s more because Grandpa has already decided to step down and pass the reins to Jingfeng. Mom called me, saying that as long as I agree, the position as the J.C. family’s matriarch will be mine without contest."
As she spoke, she curled her lips into a smile of unbridled greed.
"Ji Anning, are you serious?"
Ji Chicheng looked intently at Ji Anning, his clear black pupils completely calm.
It was as if he had already thought of his next sentence.
"Do you see anywhere I’m not being serious?" Ji Anning asked with a cold, challenging raise of her eyebrows.
Ji Chicheng continued to look at her, unangry and unannoyed, and asked with a certain tone, "Did the old man come to see you?"
"Yes," Ji Anning nodded. If she had said that the old man hadn’t come to see him, he definitely wouldn’t have believed her.
Even she didn’t believe that the old man’s calm facade in the face of their relationship was genuine; she had anticipated that he would eventually come for her.
She said, "He did come to see me, offering me two choices: one is to move to a foreign country with you, changing our names and living in obscurity forever; the other is to stay with the Ji Family, keeping the Ji surname, acting as Jingfeng’s right-hand woman. Go ask a hundred women, ask how they would choose."
Ji Chicheng’s expression still didn’t betray any emotion as he lightly raised his eyebrows, "So you chose the latter, just like they would?"
Ji Anning nodded, "Yes."
"Good," Ji Chicheng nodded as well. He took a deep breath and said, "If you really want these things, if you desire that position, I can give it to you."
His tone was still calm, but his expression was growing colder.
Having said that, he took steps closer to Ji Anning.
He was angry now, the fury evident in his eyes.
Yet, because he loved her too deeply, even if she truly were a bad girl, a vain and greedy girl, he still liked her and couldn’t stop himself.
"What can you give me?" Ji Anning saw Ji Chicheng approaching and she began to step back, looking at him with ironic eyes, "Do you think Grandpa would give J.C. to someone of your status?"
She tucked her hands behind her thighs, digging her nails into the flesh, before she managed to muster the strength to speak again, "Have you ever seen a bastard child of a wealthy family sit in the rightful position?"
Ji Chicheng’s expression suddenly changed, his eyes turning bloodshot as he raised his hand.
Ji Anning did not evade, tilting her face to meet the blow, "Go ahead and hit me. After that, we can call an end to these many days of bed relationships."
Ji Chicheng’s raised hand trembled in the air. He lowered his gaze, a dangerous glint flashing in his eyes. The chilling aura emanating from his body was even colder than the snow-filled skies.
His gaze was fixed on Ji Anning’s stubborn eyes that held a hint of sarcasm, seriously probing.
Ji Anning’s resolve was on the verge of breaking.
Ji Chicheng spoke again, "Ji Anning, say it once more!"
"I’m saying I want to break up with you, to end this morally bankrupt relationship," Ji Anning roared, "That’s it. Don’t come looking for me again. You could find someone like Danning whose circumstances match yours; you should cherish that."
