Chapter 406 - 400 Unacceptable Truth (Part 5)
She thanked Xiang Yiqing and took off the white lab coat she had draped over herself to return it to him.
Then she got off the bed. Her legs had gone numb from being in one position for too long, and it took her quite a while of patting them before she could stand up.
She looked up at the night sky, turned around, and said to Xiang Yiqing, "Doctor Xiang, join me for a couple of drinks."
"Sure," Xiang Yiqing nodded and stood up.
At a late-night food stall near the sanatorium, because it was cold, there were no other customers except for them.
She ordered a pile of dishes, but didn’t eat a single bite, nor did she speak; she just drank.
Xiang Yiqing, however, didn’t even take a sip of alcohol; he held a cup of hot water and quietly watched Ji Anning drink.
After another drink, Ji Anning belched, her eyes drunkenly sweeping over to Xiang Yi, across from her. She frowned and pouted, dissatisfied, she asked, "Doctor Xiang, why aren’t you drinking?"
Xiang Yiqing said, "Because later, when you’re drunk, I need to take you back."
He smiled slightly, warmer than the sunlight, very warm.
Ji Anning laughed ’hehe’ foolishly, "Then I’ll drink without worries."
In the foolish laughter tinged with drunkenness, filled with sadness, Xiang Yiqing looked at her with compassion, "Silly girl, aren’t you afraid I’ll sell you off?"
"You won’t," Ji Anning waved her hand trustingly, not letting Xiang Yiqing get touched by her assurance, she quickly added, "because my uncle is very shrewd and aloof, and he wouldn’t befriend someone with poor character."
After speaking, she suddenly lay face down on the table, hand still clutching the wine glass, "Oh, my uncle is so wonderful."
Xiang Yiqing reached over and gently wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes.
A gust of cold wind blew, and he sighed, "Yes, he really is worth your love."
...
This was the first time that Ji Anning lost consciousness from drinking too much. When she woke up again, it took her a while to prop up her groggy head.
The curtains were tightly drawn, the room pitch dark, she didn’t know what time it was, and it took her a long time to find the light switch.
She turned on the light, the room was tidy and familiar.
Memories from last night gradually returned; she was back in City C, had seen her parents, cried alone, and had gone out drinking with Xiang Yiqing...
So it was Xiang Yiqing who had brought her back last night; she was still wearing the clothes from yesterday, only her coat had been removed.
Ji Anning leaned against the headboard, rubbing her throbbing temples, her throat dry and sore. She reached for the water glass on the bedside table, which had only a little water left.
She got out of bed, dragging her feeble steps, intending to go out and get some water.
As she opened the door, she paused, "Grandpa."
The old man sat at the dining table, his tall and imposing figure out of place in the shabby living room.
Startled for a moment, Ji Anning turned back into the room, and with a ’snap’, she shut the door. She leaned against it, her eyes quickly filling with tears.
The old man’s voice came from outside the door.
"Anning, your grandpa has never begged anyone in his life, but I’m begging you, help me," he said with an aged, helpless tone, pausing before continuing, "because I know Chicheng. Whatever he wants, he never cares about anyone else’s feelings or opinions, even if the whole world thinks he’s wrong and spits at him, he wouldn’t waver."
"So even if you are his niece, I think it won’t make any difference to him."
"Ohh..." Ji Anning finally couldn’t control herself and burst out crying. She leaned against the door and slid down to the floor.
