Chapter 385 - 379: The Little Boat of Friendship (Part Eight)

"I like him, too."

Ji Anning suddenly looked up, her gaze firm as she looked at Yang Danning, "Earlier than you, and longer than you. Throughout my youth, through every colorful memory of spring and rainy seasons, it’s only been him."

The rest was all greyed out.

Having spoken loudly, she looked at Yang Danning, who was staring at her in a daze, and she herself was momentarily stunned.

Then she lowered her head again, "I’m sorry for liking the same person as you, but I’m sorry, I can’t give him up now."

She looked abject, yet her tone was resolute.

She didn’t want to lose him, and it happened that he felt the same. What reason did she have to back down?

"Slap!"

A loud slap landed on Ji Anning’s face. She barely reacted, simply lifting her head to look at Yang Danning with a very calm expression.

She said, "I hope after this slap, you feel a bit better inside."

Her own heart might also feel a little less apologetic, a little less guilty.

Ji Anning’s calmness infuriated Yang Danning even more. She raised her hand again, but Ji Anning suddenly tipped her head back, facing her.

Without even blinking.

Yang Danning’s hand paused in mid-air, ultimately she clenched her hand into a fist and withdrew it. "Ji Anning, you ingrate."

Her eyes reddened, and soon they filled with tears.

Pain and unwillingness made her lose control of her emotions, "I don’t believe your grandfather would agree to you two being together. Ji Chicheng may not belong to me, but I will not help you, the ungrateful one."

With that, she turned and ran.

Yang Danning’s grief-stricken roar echoed in Ji Anning’s ears.

’Ji Chicheng may not belong to me, but I will not help you, the ungrateful one...’

Her steps faltered, retreating until she leaned against the wall, exhausted. She looked up, closed her eyes, and curved her lips into a self-mocking smile.

Ji Anning, the inevitable can’t be avoided no matter what.

With a resigned sigh, she straightened up and slowly walked to the mirror. She glanced at her reflection, noticing one side of her face was red and swollen. She looked at her wristwatch; it was nearly lunchtime.

She needed to hurry downstairs and put some ice on it.

Ji Chicheng usually came back around lunchtime every day. She was afraid of him seeing her like this, afraid that he would confront Yang Danning.

"Miss, I just went out to throw out the trash. I was at the door, so I didn’t close it."

As Ji Anning descended the stairs, headed for the kitchen, the temporary maid she had hired happened to come in from outside.

Perhaps she had encountered Yang Danning, and with a guilty face, she explained.

This maid had been Ji Chicheng’s regular temporary worker for the few years he had been in N City, coming over only to clean in the morning and cook lunch before leaving, also a Chinese national.

Ji Anning shook her head, giving her a reassuring smile, "It’s okay, that was my friend."

With that, she turned and entered the dining room, her head lowered.

She sat in the dining room with an ice pack wrapped in a towel.

"Miss, what happened to your face?"

The maid came in, saw Ji Anning’s face, and anxiously stepped forward to ask.

"It’s nothing." Ji Anning smiled and shook her head, then removed the towel from her face to show the maid, "Auntie, can you still see the swelling?"

The maid examined it carefully, "It’s not too swollen, but it’s still a bit red."

Ji Anning nodded, "I see."

Then she asked, "Has Mr. Ji said when he will be back?"
