Chapter 326 - 209: Pedro Langley Is Such a Jerk [Part 2]
Pedro Langley and Nora Scott sat face to face.
The view inside the shop was bright and clear. The morning sun was just right, with beams shining through the glass, falling precisely on the two of them. The shadows and lights were interwoven with dancing dust particles and rising steam from breakfast, making the scene encapsulating the two appear serene and beautiful.
The moment he stepped out of the kitchen, Humphrey Jennings glanced at the window, entertaining the thought of chopping off Benjamin Durant’s hand that was about to pull down the bamboo curtain.
"Is the tofu pudding ready?"
Seeing Humphrey’s figure, Nora Scott slightly leaned her head forward and took the initiative to ask.
"Yes."
Only then did Humphrey put aside the thought, carrying two bowls of tofu pudding towards them.
As he approached, his tall stature blocked the light and shadow, disrupting the previously poetic and peaceful picture and adding a cold, hard edge to the artistic scene.
As the shadow fell diagonally, everything before Pedro Langley’s eyes suddenly darkened. He furrowed his brows slightly, casting his glance upward, coincidentally meeting Humphrey’s gaze at an exceedingly short distance. Their eyes locked for a moment, the atmosphere freezing, suggesting a brief confrontation.
Humphrey placed a bowl of tofu pudding in front of Nora Scott, gently setting it down, but when he delivered Pedro Langley’s portion, a loud "bang" sounded, almost causing the tofu pudding to spill.
Invisible tension surged between the two.
"Did you add caramel?"
Focused entirely on the tofu pudding, Nora Scott scooped up a spoonful tinged with a caramel hue.
"Yes." Humphrey removed the serving tray from the table, stood upright, and looking down at Nora commented, "It’s a new item in the shop."
"Oh."
Nora Scott took a bite of the tofu pudding.
Soon after, she raised her eyebrows in surprise and praised, "What a surprise."
Humphrey said, "As long as you like it."
Nora Scott took another bite, feeling quite satisfied, and seeing Pedro Langley’s plain tofu pudding, she said, "Give him one too."
"None left."
With a slightly cool look in his eyes, Humphrey glanced coldly at Pedro Langley, rejecting her straightforwardly and resolutely.
Nora Scott: ???
Pedro Langley, however, curled his lips into a smile, picked up the spoon beside him, and reached over to Nora Scott’s bowl, saying, "I’ll try some of yours."
Usually not allowing others to touch her tofu pudding, Nora hesitated briefly at his gesture but surprisingly didn’t stop him, letting him scoop a big spoonful.
Humphrey: "..."
Clearly, Humphrey’s temple vein throbbed visibly.
Irritated.
As if doing it on purpose, Pedro looked at Humphrey before eating, seemingly flaunting his preferential treatment.
"..."
Veins bulging on his hand, joints creaking, Humphrey’s gaze was like a knife cut, yet Pedro Langley appeared unfazed by the hostility, eating with calm composure.
!
Forcing down the urge to flip the table, Humphrey grabbed the serving tray, turned around, and headed back to the kitchen.
Standing at the kitchen entrance, John Durant witnessed the outcome of this clash, emotionally remarking, "This pretty boy’s skill level is way too high."
Way too high!
Humphrey, someone as oblivious to romance as you, isn’t even an opponent!
As Humphrey passed by, he shoved the tray into John Durant’s arms and, shrouded in a cloud of dark energy, walked into the kitchen.
*
In the front hall, Nora Scott paid no attention to Humphrey’s situation, focusing instead on the taste of the tofu pudding.
Once Humphrey left, she turned to Pedro Langley and asked, "How is it?"
"Well, it’s different from other shops’ offerings."
Ignoring Humphrey the person, Pedro Langley acknowledged the taste.
However, watching Nora Scott keep a person with clearly ulterior motives by her side...
It was a bit of a headache.
"Unique."
Nora Scott raised her eyebrows a bit, showing a hint of pride.
All the tofu pudding in the shop was prepared by Humphrey from the night before.
The step of selecting soybeans could be skipped, as Virtue Retreat would deliver the best quality soybeans. After that, the soaking, grinding, and boiling steps were all carried out personally by Humphrey to ensure every step was flawlessly executed.
Furthermore, each of these steps had been the result of Benjamin Durant’s countless tests and tastings to achieve the perfect presentation.
Benjamin Durant had the keenest taste and the best technique, and Humphrey was the only one Benjamin had encountered who could meet his standards to the utmost.
This pairing between the two meant the food they created nearly always reached its full potential.
Pedro Langley: "..." Humphrey’s intentions, she truly hadn’t noticed.
Pausing slightly, Pedro asked in a seemingly casual tone, "Where did you find this cook?"
"Met him by chance." Nora Scott took another bite of tofu pudding, explaining, "When I met him, he wasn’t a chef yet."
Pedro Langley raised an eyebrow.
"Hmm..."
With the delicious tofu pudding, Nora Scott was in a great mood and chatted a bit more with Pedro Langley.
