Oops, Mommy Slept With A Tyrant

Chapter 284 Reality Setting In

Chapter 284 Reality Setting In

Inside the house, Robert sat comfortably on his seat, switching to the cameras outside where he could see Maxwell standing there, appearing to be in a daze.

After a while, he scrunched up his nose and began to call out, "Maxwell? You’re not ignoring me now, are you?"

"Did you have a stroke? No, that’s impossible. I’m told you’re in the best physical health for someone your age, so that rules out the possibility of a stroke."

"Did you collapse then? Not at all, since I can see you standing with the protestors. So why go mute all of a sudden?"

"You’re a man, don’t overreact. You won’t be the first to lose a child, nor will you be the last."

"And don’t you worry, Kensington. I’ll send someone there to retrieve the body parts. I’m many things, but I’m not heartless enough to let her body be eaten by wild animals."

"I’m going to kill you," came a sharp growl from Maxwell’s end, but Robert only smiled, shaking his leg in excitement.

"No, you won’t. You know why? Because the people I have watching your grandchildren will sever their heads and have them waybilled to you as a delivery."

"It’s bad enough you’ve lost your daughter to me. Don’t lose those beautiful faces because you can’t control your animosity toward a vile and evil old man like me."

"Be a good boy, Maxwell. Go home and rest. While you honestly do not deserve my generosity, I’ll make sure you get the body parts by the end of today, okay?"

But what he got in response was the sound of the call ending.

Smiling, he lowered the phone from his ear and watched as Maxwell got into his car again.

Leaning back, he clicked his tongue wistfully. "That man never listens. What joy comes out of seeing the dismembered parts of your child?"

"Is it a type of link? And here I was, thinking I was the absolute worst of the sheep. Once again, Maxwell, you’ve outdone me."

The explosion in the woods wasn’t hard to miss, and within minutes, the police and fire department were already flanking the area, but by the time they arrived, the entire building had burned down.

Maxwell raced straight to the scene, only to see them coupling together some body parts.

They were charred beyond recognition, and a forensic expert was already on-site examining them.

"I can’t do much with a body like this, but I can tell for certain that since the arms are averagely muscular, it points to it being a woman."

Maxwell, who was standing a few meters away, felt his knees buckle and collapsed to the ground before he could stop himself.

The officers behind him hurried forward to help him up. "Sir, are you okay?"

Blinking, he snapped out of his daze and slowly bobbed his head in response, smiling forcefully as he rose to his feet again.

"My apologies. I didn’t mean to distract you. I just have a paralysis that gets me when I’m least expecting it. It’s a good thing you were here."

The officers returned his smile, suggesting, "It’s fine, sir. Do you need help getting to the hospital? We could transport you in a police car."

"No, that would be too much to ask. I’ll find my way." Maxwell quickly refused and turned around to leave.

The group stared after him until he was out of sight, then returned to patrolling the area.

Inside the car, Colton Reed leaned forward in confusion when Maxwell returned.

Maxwell had suddenly asked to be driven here... a place that concerned neither of them especially with the pressing issue plaguing his Reed family.

"Is anything the matter? Was Emily Hughes here after all?"

Maxwell glanced at him.

Just as he parted his lips to speak, the phone in his pocket went off and he took it out, his grip tightening around it when he saw the name sprawled across his screen.

"Maxwell, I told you to go home because it’s generally not advised for a grieving father to see the charred body of his daughter."

"Once again, you disobeyed me, and look what it’s cost you. Sigh. Hopefully this will teach you to always listen to what I have to say, okay?"

In response, Maxwell promptly ended the call and gritted his teeth.

Tossing his cell to the floor, he began to step on it, startling Colton.

Maxwell didn’t stop until the phone spilt into two, only then did he left his eyes toward Colton again.

"Tell me, what were Kelsie and her children like when you went to Silicon Valley?"

Colton was speechless.

His life and that of his family was on the line, yet Maxwell was asking about his newfound daughter and grandchildren?

But despite how badly he wanted to complain, this was the only person who could help him, so he began to answer.

"They were doing well. Kelsie loves her children so much, and they love her too. For people so little, they seem to understand a lot when it comes to their mother."

"With a father like Jett Adler, I don’t doubt for a minute how formidable they’ll grow up to be."

He was still speaking when he heard a strange sound and looked up to see tears streaming down Maxwell’s cheeks.

"M-master Kensington!" Both he and the driver jumped, the driver almost rushing into the backseat before Maxwell raised a hand to stop him.

"It’s fine. Drive. Go home."

Though confused, the driver obliged and started the car. "Y-yes, sir."

Colton slouched back, trying to understand what had just happened.

A man like Maxwell had to have gone through hell in his lifetime if he was still standing.

Though he might have broken down a few times, someone like him would be careful to do it out of sight.

If he was breaking down now in front of people younger than him... right after asking about his daughter and grandchildren...

He swallowed hard and raised his eyes to peer at him Maxwell.

Could something have happened to them?

"Help! Please help!"

He forcefully snapped out of his thoughts when a figure suddenly ran into the road, and the driver abruptly braked.

A second later, and he would’ve completely run her through.

Ignoring how close she had come to losing her life, she rushed to the back, throwing a stone through the window as she pointed a Glock inside.

Maxwell’s face hardened as he looked into the barrel of the gun. "Molinda Langford?"
