Chapter 256 I Didn’t Send Any Nurse

Chapter 256 I Didn’t Send Any Nurse

That afternoon, Maxwell Kensington didn’t return to Kelsie’s.

His butler brought in the food he’d purchased moments earlier, informing Jett that his master had gone off to handle something important.

Serbian Howard sat silently in a corner of the room, saying nothing more after his earlier conversation with Jett.

Daniel sat across from him, his eyes pinned on Serbian for several minutes before finally turning to Jett.

"What do I tell the triplets when I pick them up from school in an hour?"

Jett paused.

That... he unfortunately didn’t know.

It was his first time being a father, and everything was new to him, but he’d been perfect until now.

However, how could he tell them their mother had been shot and was now in a coma?

He couldn’t even think of a way to sugarcoat his speech before delivering it.

Straightening up, he scratched his brow thoughtfully.

"How about we send them to Grandfather? We don’t have to tell him what happened, but he’ll be happy to stay with them until we’re ready." Daniel suggested, his brows perking up questioningly.

It was a brilliant idea and Jett was just about to nod when Serbian frowned from where he sat.

"I understand you’re courting her, but Kelsie still has a family. The triplets’ grandfather may be in prison at the moment, but their aunt is still available. Even in the court, they’d still rule that she stay with them until their mother wakes up."

The duo glanced at him without a word, and he stared back at them calmly.

"Sure, the Sutton family hasn’t been doing well financially, so you can give her money to take care of them. That shouldn’t be too difficult for you, should it?" He mused, concluding the finance must be the reason they were looking at him like a fool.

But his frown deepened when their expressions didn’t change even after he gave this wonderful solution.

Serbian hadn’t snooped around Kelsie’s children at all as he didn’t think it was right to concern himself with them before he got together with their mother.

So he had no idea that their father was Jett.

"For someone obsessing so hard over Kelsie, you really know nothing about her." Daniel scoffed and looked away, saying nothing else.

Serbian was about to ask what he meant when the ward door suddenly swung open and a man covered from head to toe crept inside.

He clearly wasn’t a doctor.

And judging by how he looked around before removing his clothing, he knew exactly where he was.

Jett had personally asked the hospital not to leak Kelsie’s identity to the press or mention that she’d undergone surgery for bullet wounds.

So it was very surprising they were getting a visitor.

The butler had just leaned away from the wall, about to walk over when the shawl fell off the man’s face.

"Grandfather?" Daniel gasped, instinctively shooting to his feet to stand beside Kelsie’s bed.

Jett mentally face-palmed at the sight of Daniel perfectly aligning himself in the middle of the bed, leaving Kelsie’s face, which was the target for such a reaction, completely exposed.

Walking to the front, Jett squinted at his grandfather.

"Don’t you have a wife to be with?"

"Did you really think you could keep this from me? You seem to have forgotten that before anything else, I’m her father-in-law!" Jack was gnashing his teeth hard as he tossed aside the last shawl he covered himself with.

Behind him, Serbian was baffled.

Never in his life had he imagined the Adler family even knew of Kelsie’s existence—let alone that they were close enough for Jett’s grandfather to already refer to her as his daughter-in-law.

His eyes fell, clouded with sadness as a realization abruptly dawned on him.

From the start, this was nothing but a losing battle. While Jett had support and love from every corner, he had to fight and scheme for everything on his end.

"Tell me you’ve found who did this!"

Hearing Jack’s grim voice snapped Serbian out of his despair and he accidentally swallowed air, leading him to cough at that exact moment.

Only then did Jack realize there were others in the room.

Getting on his feet, Serbian proceeded to lower his head in a bow to Jack before introducing himself.

"Good afternoon, Mr. Adler. I’m Serbian Howard. I’m not proud of it, but I shot her."

Jack narrowed his eyes at him.

The Howard family...

He never liked them. Everything about them just felt shady.

But he knew better than to hold anything against a child, hence, he shifted his gaze to the other person in the room– Maxwell’s butler.

The moment he recognized the butler’s coat, the anger he’d just suppressed bubbled back up, and he lashed out at Serbian.

"Typical of the Howard family! They do something awful, then act remorseful—not because they care, but because they don’t want to get sued!"

"But this time, they lie! I don’t care what I have to do, but I will sue you and your family for hurting my granddaughter-in-law and trying to deprive my great-grandchildren of their mother!"

Out of everything he said, only one part made Serbian frown.

"Great-grandchildren? Aren’t you going too far already, Mr. Adler? The future is uncertain. Kelsie might not even marry your grandson in the long run."

But instead of responding, Jack simply stared at him.

In that moment, he quickly realized he’d nearly let the secret about the triplets slip and clamped his mouth shut before he divulged anything else.

However, the look in his eyes was the same one Daniel and Jett gave Serbian just a moment later.

One could only be daft for so long.

So, after asking that question in amused disbelief, it suddenly hit Serbian and his eyes dimmed.

"The triplets... they’re Jett’s, aren’t they?"

The door opened just then, and a nurse wearing a white face mask and round prescription glasses entered with her head lowered.

"Hi, it’s time for the patient’s routine check-up. I’d like you to wait outside until I’m done."

No one asked any questions and quietly filed out of the ward.

Two minutes later, the doctor who had performed Kelsie’s surgery spotted them in the reception and smiled.

"It’s good to see you all come out for some fresh air, sir."

"Yeah, we had to. A nurse came in for her routine check-up." Daniel nodded, opening a can of beverage.

The doctor blinked, "Nurse? I never sent a nurse to her ward."

Daniel choked on the beverage whilst two figures bolted before the doctor finished.

Upstairs in Kelsie’s ward, Molly pulled down one side of her mask, letting it dangle from the other ear as she stared at Kelsie’s face stoically.
