One Piece: Crimson Shadows

Chapter 207

Chapter 207

The battlefield stood still.

For the third time.

Because now not one. But two Warlords had openly stood against the Marines.

Dracule Mihawk.

And Bartholomew Kuma.

Both standing before Luffy. Both protecting him and directly in front of them rage itself.

Akainu. Magma dripping from his fist.

Face twisted with fury. Veins visible. His hatred was almost physical. Burning through the air.

He glared at Kuma first.

Voice low. Dangerous. Like a volcano before eruption.

"Why…"

A step forward. Magma cracking the frozen ground.

"Why the hell…"

His fist ignited brighter. "…are you protecting Dragon's son?!"

His eyes burned. Pure contempt. Pure murder.

"Both of you are Warlords."

He pointed between Mihawk and Kuma.

"You were supposed to be Government dogs."

His voice rose. "And now you stand in front of me…for that brat?!"

Kuma stood there. Massive. Silent. Like a mountain. Smoke rising from where he had blocked magma.

And then he answered. Calm. Simple. Absolute.

"Then…"

A pause.

"Consider this…"

His eyes did not move.

"…my resignation from the Warlords."

Silence. Again. Because hearing it once from Mihawk was madness.

Hearing it twice was collapse.

Even Kizaru adjusted his glasses. His lazy expression finally carrying genuine curiosity.

"Oh my…"

A small whistle.

"For both of you…"

He looked between them.

Mihawk. Kuma. Then Luffy.

"…to protect Straw Hat like this…"

A pause.

"What exactly are your motives?"

Because that was the true question.

Not betrayal. Not resignation.

Why?

Why would monsters like these risk everything…

for one rookie?

Akainu answered before either could. Because to him the answer was obvious.

"I wouldn't expect anything less…" His voice was filled with disgust. "…from pirate scum."

His magma surged. The battlefield trembling again.

"But well…"

He stepped forward. Slow. Heavy. Certain.

"Now that you've resigned…"

His eyes sharpened. Like a death sentence.

"…that means I can kill you both."

A pause.

He looked at Mihawk first. "One is the vice captain of an Emperor."

Then Kuma. "The other…"

His voice darkened. "…is a Tyrant."

Mihawk gave him nothing. No fear. No reaction. Only cold eyes.

And then he spoke. Flat. Sharp. Like the edge of Yoru itself.

"You speak boldly…"

A slight pause.

"…for someone we defeated at Marie Geoise."

Silence. Then Akainu's face twisted. Real anger. Personal anger. Because that wound, that humiliation still burned.

"You bastard."

Magma exploded from his arm. The air itself screaming.

Far beneath that chaos Mihawk's thoughts remained calm. Measured. Sharp.

His eyes shifted briefly toward Kuma. Watching him. Understanding.

So… Kuma also felt it.

A quiet thought.

That sudden responsibility.

Another pause.

Helping Ada's son.

Mihawk understood it well. Because this wasn't random. This wasn't kindness.

This was debt. History. Promise. Loyalty.

Well…

His gaze sharpened.

He does owe her quite a bit.

A memory. Old. Heavy.

After all…we did help Ginny back then.

And yet even knowing that, this still surprised him. Because Kuma standing here meant more than help. It meant exposure. Risk. The end of his cover.

But for you to take it this far…

A final thought.

…to blow your cover completely…

Mihawk turned his head slightly. Looked at Kuma.

And Kuma looked back. No words. None were needed. Only understanding. Only shared history. Only one silent truth.

She is coming.

And until then Luffy must survive.

They nodded once. Small. Invisible to most.

But absolute. An agreement between monsters.

Behind them Luffy stared. Breathing hard.

Still kneeling. Still trying to process all of this.

His eyes moved between Mihawk and Kuma.

Confused. Suspicious. Frustrated.

"…Why?" His voice was rough. Real. "Why are both of you helping me?"

His eyes landed on Kuma. Harder there.

Because that wound was personal.

"Especially you."

His fists clenched. "You're the one who separated me and my crew."

His voice lowered. Still carrying that pain.

"You sent us all flying."

A pause.

"So why are you saving me now?"

Mihawk answered first. Without turning.

Still facing the Admirals. Still holding Yoru.

"It is nothing, Straw Hat." His voice calm.

Cold. "It is merely…"

A slight pause.

"…part of the grander things in this world."

Luffy frowned immediately. Because that explained absolutely nothing.

"Huh?!"

Kuma spoke next. His voice deeper. Steady.

Final.

"What we do…"

A pause.

"…is not your concern."

He looked forward. At Akainu. At Kizaru.

At war.

"Focus on saving your brother."

Another pause. More important. More urgent.

"For now…"

His massive hand rose. Ready.

"Leave these two Admirals…"

His eyes sharpened. Rare. Dangerous.

"…to us."

Luffy stared. Still confused. Still suspicious.

But he could feel it. They were serious.

And Ace was still waiting.

He clenched his fists. Then nodded. Because there was only one answer.

Only one goal.

"…Right."

He stood. Wounded. Bleeding. Unbroken.

"I'll save Ace."

And then Mihawk moved. Kuma moved.

At the exact same time.

BOOM.

The frozen battlefield shattered beneath them.

Mihawk rushed toward Akainu, Yoru drawn.

Black blade cutting through the air like death itself.

Kuma charged Kizaru massive palm ready.

A walking catastrophe.

Akainu roared. Magma exploding around him.

"DAMN YOU BOTH!"

Kizaru sighed. Light gathering instantly.

"So troublesome…"

And Marineford already collapsing descended even deeper into war.

—————————

The battlefield erupted once more. Dracule Mihawk and Bartholomew Kuma had made their choice. There was no going back. Not anymore.

And high above on the execution platform. Sengoku's fury had reached its limit. His face was dark. His voice thundered through the battlefield as he grabbed the Den Den Mushi.

Every Marine. Every pirate. Every person watching from Sabaody heard him.

"Attention to all Marines!" His voice shook Marineford itself. Cold. Absolute. "As of this moment—"

A pause. His glare locked onto Mihawk. Then Kuma.

"Dracule Mihawk and Bartholomew Kuma…" His jaw tightened. "…are hereby expelled from the Seven Warlords of the Sea!"

Gasps spread instantly. But Sengoku wasn't finished. His next words hit even harder.

"They are to be treated as enemies of the World Government."

His eyes sharpened. Merciless.

"Kill them on sight!"

Silence. Then complete chaos.

"The Warlords are collapsing!"

"Two official traitors!"

"This war is insane!"

Marines shouted. Commanders screamed orders. The battlefield descended deeper into madness. Because now Marineford wasn't just fighting Whitebeard. It was fighting former Warlords too.

Below amid broken ice and shattered stone Monkey D. Luffy finally tried to stand.

His legs trembled. His vision blurred. His breathing was broken.

He took one step and collapsed. Hard. Straight to his knees. Then to the ground.

His body refused. It had reached its absolute limit.

Gear Second. Gear Third. Impel Down.

Poison. Injuries. Admirals. Everything.

His body had nothing left. He coughed violently. Blood stained the frozen ground.

His fingers trembled. Still reaching. Still trying.

"Ace…" his voice was weak. Barely a whisper. But still moving forward. Even like this.

Then heels clicked against the ice. A dramatic silhouette appeared. Wind blowing. Hair glorious. Presence unavoidable.

Ivankov arrived. He looked down at Luffy.

And for once there was no comedy. Only serious concern.

"Straw Boy…" His voice was lower. Real. "Your body can't take it anymore."

He crossed his arms. Eyes sharp. "You should rest."

Luffy's fingers dug into the ice. He forced himself to look up. Past Ivankov. Past the battlefield. Toward the execution platform.

Toward Ace. Still there. Still waiting. Still in chains.

"…Ace…" A pause. Then Luffy looked directly at Ivankov. Eyes burning. Even half-dead. Still burning.

"Iva-chan…" His voice shook. But not from fear. From desperation. "…help me."

Ivankov's eyes narrowed. Because he already knew what was coming and he hated it.

"Inject me again." Luffy's fists clenched. Tears and rage in the same breath. "I want to save my brother!"

Silence. Then Ivankov exploded.

"ARE YOU INSANE?!" His voice echoed across the battlefield.

Even nearby Marines turned.

"Do you even understand what you're asking?!" He pointed furiously. Full rage.

Full fear.

"That treatment reduces your lifespan!" His voice cracked. Because this was not exaggeration. This was truth.

"I already injected you back in Impel Down!"

He stepped closer. Almost shaking him.

"And now you want it a second time?!"

His eyes widened. Angry. Terrified.

"Are you nuts?! This will kill you!"

Luffy didn't back down. Didn't hesitate. Didn't blink.

He simply looked at Ivankov and said the one thing he couldn't fight.

"Please…"

A pause. Soft. Simple. Heavy.

"…Iva-chan."

That was worse. Much worse. Because Luffy wasn't asking as a pirate. Or as Dragon's son. Or as Ada's son. He was asking as a little brother. Begging for one more chance.

Ivankov froze. His face twisted. Conflicted.

Furious. Helpless. Because he knew. He knew exactly what would happen.

And yet he also knew Luffy would never stop.

Even if everyone refused him. He would crawl there himself.

Ivankov threw his hands up. Furious surrender.

"DO WHATEVER YOU WANT!!"

His giant nails extended instantly. Hormone powers activating. No more arguments. Only action.

"Don't blame me when you become an old man overnight!"

STAB.

The injection went in. Straight into Luffy.

Hormones flooding his body. Forcing life where none remained. Dragging him back from collapse. Again. Against nature itself.

Silence. A single second. Two. Three.

Then Luffy's eyes snapped open. His body trembled violently. Steam rising from him.

Blood rushing. Pain exploding through every nerve. It felt like dying. Again.

And then he stood. Slowly. Shaking. But standing. Again.

On the execution platform Ace's eyes widened in horror. Because he knew. He knew that wasn't normal. He knew what Luffy was doing to himself.

"…Luffy…" His voice cracked. Worried. Guilty.

Terrified.

Below Luffy rose fully. Took one breath.

Then another and suddenly he screamed.

A raw war cry. A roar that shook the battlefield. Not fear. Not pain. Pure will. Pure defiance.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

The Marines froze. Pirates turned. Even the Admirals looked.

Because somehow the boy who should have been dead was standing again.

Far away Helmeppo stared in disbelief.

"No way…" His mouth hung open. "Straw Hat?!"

He pointed like reality itself offended him. "I thought he received a mortal wound from Admiral Kizaru!"

Beside him Koby stood frozen. Watching. Unable to speak for several seconds.

Because what he was seeing wasn't normal courage. It was madness. Terrifying. Beautiful madness.

"Luffy-san…"His voice was quiet. Almost shaken. "How far…"

A pause. His eyes locked on Luffy. "…how far are you willing to go?"

Across the battlefield Bullet saw him rise and smiled. A real one. Proud.

Mihawk saw it too and gave the faintest smirk.

Because yes that stubbornness. That madness. That refusal to stay down there was no denying it.

Ada's son. Without question.

Jinbe smiled quietly. Relieved. Steady.

Bartholomew Kuma remained expressionless. But even he felt it. The will of that boy. Unbreakable.

And then Luffy raised his head. Looked at the execution platform. At Ace. At the entire world standing in his way. And screamed with everything he had left.

"ACEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!"

—————————

Sengoku stood high above the battlefield.

Watching. Calculating. Enduring.

But now he had enough. Too much chaos.

Too many variables. Too many things slipping from Marine control.

Whitebeard had arrived. Luffy had broken into the war. Two Warlords had defected.

The balance was collapsing and Sengoku would not allow it.

His face darkened. His voice turned cold.

Absolute. He looked down at Whitebeard. At the old emperor standing in the middle of war like a mountain and Sengoku spoke. "If you want to see the future…"

His hand tightened around the Den Den Mushi. Eyes burning. "…then I'll show it to you, Whitebeard."

He turned sharply. Toward Ace. Toward the execution platform. Toward the two executioners standing ready. And then he gave the order.

The one everyone feared. The one that would decide everything.

"Now…"

A pause. Heavy. Final.

"…let's end this."

His voice thundered. "EXECUTE HIM!"

The world stopped. The executioners raised their blades. Steel gleamed beneath the sun.

Cold. Merciless. Final.

Below the pirates screamed.

"ACE!!!"

"NO!!"

"STOP!!"

The Whitebeard Pirates panicked instantly.

Commanders shouted.

Men roared.

The battlefield shook with desperation.

Because this was the moment that everyone feared.

Luffy's eyes widened. Pure terror. He was still too far. Still running. Still bleeding. Still too slow.

"ACEEEEEEE!!!"

On the platform Ace looked down. At his little brother. Running. Falling apart. Still coming.

Still refusing to stop.

His eyes softened. Pain. Love. Regret.

He closed them. As if accepting it. As if preparing for the end.

Whitebeard saw it and roared. His voice shook the sea. "IT'S NO USE!"

His bisento slammed down. Rage. Defiance.

"Do you think…"

Blood suddenly spilled from his mouth. His body trembled.

Age. Damage. War. Disease. Even monsters had limits.

"…I can't stop you from doing it?!"

But before he could move Whitebeard coughed violently. Blood splattered. His knees hit the ground.

The pirates froze.

"POPS!!"

"OYAJI!"

"WHITEBEARD!"

Sengoku watched. Merciless.

"See it for yourself, Whitebeard!" His voice cold. Sharp. "This is the end!"

Luffy kept running. Marines rushed him from every side. Blades. Guns. Blood.

He pushed through all of it. Desperate. Wild.

Screaming. "DON'T DO IT!!!"

The executioners brought their swords down.

Whitebeard gasped.

Jinbe froze.

Marco shouted.

Vista's eyes widened.

Every commander panicked.

Ace remained still.

And then Luffy screamed.

Not with strength.

Not with muscle.

But with something far deeper.

Something ancient.

Something royal.

Something inherited.

"DON'T YOU DAREEEEEEEE!!!!!!"

BOOOOOOOOM.

A violent burst of red-black pressure exploded from Luffy.

The air itself shattered. The battlefield froze.

An invisible storm erupted outward.

Like a king declaring his will. Like the world itself bowing.

The executioners' eyes rolled back. They collapsed instantly. Unconscious. Their swords clattered uselessly.

Marine after Marine dropped. Fainting.

Falling. Hundreds.

Across the battlefield. Even seasoned soldiers collapsed under the pressure.

Silence. Shock. Disbelief.

High above Sengoku's eyes widened.

For the first time real shock. Because he felt it. He knew exactly what that was. And it should not have happened.

Not here. Not now. Not from him.

Luffy kept running. Not even realizing what he had done. Because now no Marines stood before him. Only open ground. Only Ace. Only forward.

"IT'S NOT OVER YET!!!"

Beside him Ivankov stared. Absolutely stunned. Makeup nearly falling off from sheer disbelief.

"Straw Boy!" He pointed dramatically. Eyes bulging. "Did you just do what I think you did?!"

Nearby pirates shouted. Still in disbelief.

"That was Conqueror's Haki!"

"No way!"

"From Ace's little brother?!"

Far away Aokiji looked on. Hands in his pockets. Expression unreadable. But even he was impressed.

"Well damn…"

A small sigh.

"This is a mess."

Kizaru adjusted his glasses. Whistling softly.

Even he looked genuinely surprised.

"There's a surprise for you…"

A pause.

"What a scary little monster."

Akainu said nothing. Not a single word.

But his silence was worse. Because beneath it, rage. Pure rage. His glare on Luffy burned hotter than magma.

He already wanted Ace dead. Now, Dragon's son too. Without question.

On the execution platform Ace stared. Still processing. Still shocked.

"Luffy…" His voice barely escaped. Because he knew. He understood what that meant.

That wasn't luck. That wasn't desperation.

That was something else. Something inherited.

Whitebeard suddenly laughed. Even kneeling. Even bleeding. He laughed.

Proud. Amused. Dangerous.

"Gurararara!!"

He wiped blood from his mouth. Eyes locked on Luffy. "Well, that little brat…"

His grin widened. "He can use it too."

The pirates erupted.

Relief. Hope. Life returned.

"We're good!"

"Ace is still alive!"

"That power came from Ace's brother!"

Some Marines struggled just to stand. Sweating. Shaken.

"I almost passed out…"

"What the hell was that?!"

One of Whitebeard's commander muttered grimly. "That was Conqueror's Haki…"

His eyes narrowed. "Like Pops…"

A pause. "…and Red-Haired Shanks."

Marco smirked from the battlefield. Flames dancing around him.

"Damn…"

He looked at Luffy. Almost laughing.

"That kid is full of surprises."

Akainu finally spoke. Cold. Sharp. Dangerous. "I don't think…"

His voice lowered. "…he realizes what he just did."

Kizaru nodded. Still watching. Still calculating. "I tell you boys…"

A slow whistle. "We have some truly scary people here."

Aokiji simply watched Luffy run. Silent. Because some things needed no comment.

Only observation.

Nearby Mihawk stood still. Yoru still drawn.

Eyes fixed on Luffy and in his mind, certainty.

So… he does have it after all.

A pause. Cold understanding.

I suppose he inherited it from you, Ada.

His eyes narrowed slightly. Remembering.

Recognizing.

And that red color of haki…

A faint smirk.

…there's no mistaking it.

Bullet, near Aokiji, folded his arms. Smirking.

Almost proud.

So he used it.

A grunt.

Though I doubt he even noticed.

He shook his head.

That brat needs practice.

Kuma, standing near Kizaru, remained silent. But internally he understood. Deeply.

That haki…

A pause.

So he inherited it from both Dragon…

Another pause.

He looked at Luffy.

…and Ada.

Above Garp stared at his grandson. Conflicted. Heavy. Because he knew too.

The moment he felt it. The truth.

"So…"

His voice was quiet. Only for himself.

"He inherited it after all."

His fists tightened.

"He didn't learn that power…"

His eyes stayed on Luffy.

Pride. Pain. Acceptance.

"…he was born with it."

Ace looked down. A faint smile. Even now.

Even here. "…just like Pops."

Vice Admiral Doberman barked orders instantly. "If your will is weak then stand back!"

His voice thundered. "He's not just another rookie!"

His expression darkened. "Conqueror's Haki…"

A pause.

"We cannot forget—"

His glare sharpened.

"He is the son of Dragon!"

That name alone was enough.

"This is what happens…"

His jaw tightened.

"…when we underestimate him!"

Ivankov grabbed Luffy while still running.

Still panicking. Still offended by reality.

"Straw Boy!"

He pointed accusingly.

"My hormone powers didn't do that!"

His eyes bulged.

"Where did you pull that power from?!"

Luffy blinked. Confused. Still running. Still focused only on Ace.

"Power?"

He frowned. "What power?"

Ivankov froze. Then groaned dramatically.

"We'll discuss this later!"

But inside he already knew. He understood perfectly. And it made complete sense.

Watching Luffy. Watching the people around him. Watching how the world bent around that boy.

He thought quietly, almost fondly.

He's not even aware of it.

A pause.

That means we can't count on him using it again.

Another look at Luffy. Running. Bleeding.

Refusing to stop.

Either way…

A smile. Knowing. Certain.

It's no wonder people are drawn to him.

A final thought. Toward two people far away.

Two monsters. Two leaders. Two storms.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree…

A grin. Dramatic. Perfect.

…does it, Dragon. Ada.
