On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon

Chapter 212: You’re the Worst

Chapter 212: You’re the Worst

Sensing Jasper Lockwood’s gaze, Chloe Sterling didn’t meet it. She knew he didn’t want her to mention Silas Coldwell.

After a moment of thought, Old Master Lockwood asked, "Then why did you always reject Silas Coldwell before? And even avoid him?"

Chloe Sterling replied, "Because we walk different paths."

"So, did you know him well before?" The Old Master’s questions were getting increasingly gossipy.

Jasper Lockwood frowned slightly. "Grandfather."

Seeing his grandson try to stop him, Old Master Lockwood looked displeased. "What’s the matter? I’m just showing my concern for Chloe."

Chloe Sterling said, "We didn’t know each other well. Our paths never really crossed."

"Oh." Old Master Lockwood nodded. "I see. You did the right thing. It’s best to keep your distance from people from the Nocturne Group. They didn’t start out as a legitimate business, and even though they’ve supposedly gone clean now, they’re still very dangerous."

Chloe Sterling: "I understand."

Old Master Lockwood laughed again. "I really never expected you to be Lynn Chester. This rascal of mine has good taste."

Jasper Lockwood accepted the compliment without a shred of modesty. "My taste has always been excellent."

"When did you find out she was the Spirit Master? Before or after you got married?"

Jasper Lockwood glanced at Chloe Sterling and replied, "After we were married. I found out by accident." He deliberately stressed the word ’accident,’ which was, of course, a reference to Silas Coldwell’s appearance.

If Silas Coldwell hadn’t suddenly appeared looking for Chloe Sterling, he never would have guessed that his own wife was Lynn Chester.

Though she knew he was watching her, Chloe Sterling still didn’t acknowledge him, calmly continuing with her meal.

After a moment, Jasper Lockwood pulled his gaze away and looked at the Old Master. "You should eat, Grandfather. The food’s getting cold."

"Hahahaha! Alright, alright, I won’t ask any more questions. As long as you two have things under control, that’s all that matters. This is your era now—the era of the young."

The Old Master was in exceptionally high spirits today and insisted that Jasper Lockwood drink some baijiu with him. Although Jasper wasn’t particularly fond of the liquor’s taste, he didn’t refuse and had two glasses with the old man. His tolerance for alcohol was decent; after two glasses of baijiu, he wasn’t flushed and his heart wasn’t racing. He looked completely unaffected.

"Alright, that’s enough. I know you don’t like drinking baijiu," the Old Master said after the two glasses were finished. He didn’t make Jasper drink any more, content to continue by himself.

The older generation still appreciated the mellow aroma of baijiu.

Knowing Jasper rarely drank baijiu, Chloe Sterling glanced sideways at him and asked, "Are you alright?"

A slight, alluring smile played on Jasper Lockwood’s lips. "I’m fine. You don’t need to worry."

Seeing that he really didn’t seem to be affected, Chloe Sterling paid him no more mind.

The Old Master, happy tonight, had a few extra drinks. After dinner, feeling drowsy, he retired to his room.

Chloe Sterling and Jasper Lockwood also went back to their room upstairs.

Just as they stepped through the door, Jasper Lockwood suddenly stopped, pulling the woman beside him to a halt as well.

Chloe Sterling stopped and looked at him, puzzled. "What is it?"

Jasper Lockwood suddenly pinned her against the door, leaning down close to her face. His voice was magnetic and husky. "So, you were right?"

"What was...right?" Chloe Sterling asked, completely lost.

"That restorative soup... drinking too much of it really does make you feel hot. I feel like my whole body is on fire right now. Do you want to feel?"

Chloe Sterling’s face flushed. "You’ve had too much to drink!"

Jasper Lockwood chuckled lowly. "I’m perfectly sober." And with that, his lips crashed down on hers.

With her back pressed tightly against the door, the sudden kiss left Chloe Sterling’s mind in a mess. Probably because they were at the Lockwood Residence, she felt a knot of anxiety, worried that someone might suddenly walk in.

Just as she raised a hand to push Jasper Lockwood away, he pulled back, his gaze fixed on her. He said suddenly, "So, Silas Coldwell isn’t as despicable as the rumors say? Then who is?"

Chloe Sterling was speechless. So much time had passed, and he was still holding onto that.

She tilted her beautiful face up to gaze at the handsome one so close to hers and said in a raspy voice, "You! Jasper Lockwood, you’re the most despicable one!"

No one but him could have such a complete hold on her.

Jasper Lockwood laughed, his tone bewitching. "Then let’s be a little more despicable tonight." As the words fell, he scooped Chloe Sterling into his arms and strode toward the large bed.

Chloe Sterling’s heart leaped in alarm. "We’re at the Lockwood Residence! Behave yourself!"

Jasper Lockwood placed her on the bed, his body immediately pressing down on hers. "I’m already this despicable, so what’s there to be careful about?"

"Jasper Lockwood... Mmph!" Before Chloe Sterling could finish, her lips were sealed in a fierce kiss.

Outside the window, the moon had climbed high among the branches, its silver light bathing the snow-white ground and adding a touch of cool serenity.

But the temperature inside the room was climbing ever higher. Chloe Sterling felt as if she had been plunged into a sea of fire, ready to be burned to ashes at any moment.

’Jasper Lockwood, you demon! You bastard!’

She didn’t know how much time had passed before her consciousness faded into nothingness and she finally sank into a deep sleep.

「The next morning.」

After having breakfast with the Old Master, the two of them left the Lockwood Residence.

Ever since waking up, Chloe Sterling had remained silent, not saying a single word to Jasper Lockwood.

In the car, Jasper Lockwood finally asked, "Chloe, where are you headed?"

After a few seconds, Chloe Sterling replied, "Nocturne Group."

"I thought you were going to take a couple of days off?"

"I don’t feel like resting anymore."

Jasper Lockwood suddenly leaned close to her ear and whispered, "Still feeling shy?"

Chloe Sterling’s face flushed. She shot him a sideways glare, her eyes full of a silent warning to shut his mouth.

A smile played on Jasper Lockwood’s lips. He turned to Henry Chamberlain, who was driving in the front, and said, "Home."

Chloe Sterling immediately countered, "To the Nocturne Group."

Jasper Lockwood: "Home."

"To the Nocturne Group."

"Home."

Henry Chamberlain broke out in a cold sweat. "..."

’Give me a break, you two!’

The two were at a stalemate for quite a while. Seeing that he would have to make a decision soon, Henry Chamberlain said, "Sir, Ma’am, where are we going? The fork in the road is just ahead, I need to know which way to turn."

The Lockwood Residence and the Nocturne Group were in opposite directions.

After a moment’s pause, Jasper Lockwood asked softly, "Do you really want to go to the Nocturne Group?"

But Chloe Sterling fell silent. She didn’t actually want to go to the Nocturne Group; she just didn’t want to be with this demonic man, Jasper Lockwood, any longer.

When she didn’t answer, Jasper Lockwood said, "Go to the Nocturne Group."

Chloe Sterling: "..."

Just as the car was about to turn, Chloe Sterling suddenly spoke up. "Let’s go home."

Hearing this, Henry Chamberlain quickly changed lanes. ’This couple is going to be the death of me,’ he thought.

The car had just pulled into the driveway of the Lockwood Residence when Chloe Sterling’s phone suddenly rang. She immediately took it out of her pocket and answered, "Hello."

"Chloe, we’ve got news from the black market. Someone posted a trade for high-end red wine at 6 a.m. this morning."

"Who is it? Did you find anything out?" Chloe Sterling asked.

"No. As you know, black market deals are all anonymous. I was only able to trace their approximate location to somewhere at sea. It would be too disadvantageous and dangerous for you to go looking for them on the water. You can only try to grab the goods during the exchange or pose as a buyer."

"Hold on a second." Chloe Sterling turned to Jasper Lockwood. "We’ve got news from the black market. Someone posted a trade for the red wine."

Jasper Lockwood said, "I know. Our people are the ones in contact with them right now."

"When did you find out?"

"Before you...were even awake."

"..."
