Chapter 208: A Bit Difficult
Chapter 208: A Bit Difficult
Chase Langdon was slightly taken aback. "Leaving already?"
"Yeah," Damian Rivers said. "I have a ton of things to deal with. I can’t stay long. See you around."
Chase Langdon: "Alright. Be careful on the road."
Damian Rivers nodded, grabbed his things, and turned to walk out of the dojo.
Chase Langdon sighed. "It’s only been a little over a month, but it feels like Damian Rivers has changed so much. It’s as if he’s aged ten years."
Chloe Sterling watched the man’s retreating back, saying nothing.
"But as the Heir of the Rivers, he doesn’t have any other choice. I just hope he can rebuild the Rivers Family and won’t stand against the Lockwood Family again."
"What’s the situation with the Rivers Family now?" Chloe Sterling suddenly asked.
Chase Langdon shook his head. "I don’t know. He didn’t say anything. Just grabbed his stuff and left."
Chloe Sterling said, "Tristan Sinclair will help him. The Rivers Family won’t fall just like that."
"That’s assuming Jasper Lockwood doesn’t make another move against them."
"As long as the Rivers Family doesn’t provoke him, he won’t."
Damian Rivers sat in the car, closing his eyes with a hint of exhaustion.
The driver said, "Young Master, where to next?"
After a moment, Damian Rivers finally spoke. "To the office."
A mountain of work and a sea of people awaited him at the office. He truly didn’t have a spare moment to linger at the dojo. Besides, he was no longer the high and mighty Heir of the Rivers. He couldn’t bear to face Chloe Sterling and Chase Langdon like this.
It wasn’t that he resented them for what Jasper Lockwood had done. He just didn’t want to see the pity in their eyes. To be precise, he didn’t want to see pity in anyone’s eyes.
A short while later, the car stopped in front of the office building.
Damian Rivers had just stepped out of the car when Phoebe Sinclair walked over. "You’re finally back. I’ve been waiting for a long time."
"What are you doing here?"
"Waiting for you, of course. Let’s talk inside."
Damian Rivers frowned slightly. "I don’t have time for your petty affairs. Why don’t you go mind your own business?"
Phoebe Sinclair’s expression shifted. "Damian Rivers, what’s that supposed to mean? I’m here to help you! We have a common enemy now!"
"Help me?" Damian Rivers scoffed. "How are you going to help? Are you going to help me rebuild the Rivers Family? Or are you going to get revenge on Jasper Lockwood?"
Phoebe Sinclair said, "We can work together. I’ve contacted a few people you should meet."
"Forget it, Phoebe Sinclair. Your revenge is your own business. Don’t drag me into it. The most important thing for me right now is to rebuild the Rivers Family."
"Jasper Lockwood and that bitch Chloe Sterling are the ones who ruined the Rivers Family! Don’t you want revenge? Damian Rivers, is this all the backbone you have?"
Damian Rivers said coldly, "I don’t need you to tell me what to do. If you really want revenge on Jasper Lockwood, you’d be better off using your brain to come up with a useful plan."
Phoebe Sinclair’s face flushed with anger and humiliation. Then, she sneered, "You can’t possibly still be in love with that bitch Chloe Sterling, can you? It’s because of her that Jasper Lockwood came down so hard on the Rivers Family."
Damian Rivers didn’t want to waste any more words on her and strode toward the building.
"Damian Rivers!" Phoebe Sinclair tried to follow, but Damian’s driver blocked her path. "Miss Sinclair, the Young Master has been very busy lately with a lot to handle. It would be best if you didn’t disturb him."
Staring at the man’s back, Phoebe Sinclair said coldly, "Damian Rivers, you’ll regret this!"
With that, she stormed off.
Soon, Phoebe Sinclair arrived at a private club.
A man was leaning against the sofa, a cigar between his fingers, his lecherous eyes fixed on her. "Miss Sinclair is back."
Phoebe Sinclair used to despise this kind of flashy, sleazy man. But now, for the sake of revenge and to bring her parents back, she had to feign compliance with a man she once detested.
"What did Young Master Rivers say? Is he willing to cooperate?" the man asked.
Phoebe Sinclair walked over and sat down beside him, sneering. "That idiot is still hung up on that bitch Chloe Sterling. He’s a lost cause."
"Oh?" The man raised an eyebrow. "So he refused to cooperate?"
Phoebe Sinclair’s face was ashen, and she didn’t speak.
The man chuckled. "It just goes to show, as the old saying goes: even heroes have a weakness for beautiful women. The Rivers Family is in such a sorry state, yet Young Master Rivers is still pining for that woman. Even Jasper Lockwood is enchanted by her. It seems she’s really something special."
Phoebe Sinclair’s expression shifted several times before she forced a smile. "That’s right. She is quite a beauty. I’m sure you’ll like her. I wish you the best in winning her over."
The man’s lips curled into a smirk. His burning gaze was fixed on her as he suddenly pulled her into his arms. "No rush. The one I want to hold right now is Miss Sinclair."
Phoebe Sinclair struggled instinctively, but the man only held her tighter, whispering in her ear, "I already delivered on my promise to teach Jasper Lockwood a lesson. Those wines he lost were worth a fortune. Isn’t it about time you repaid me?"
"What’s the hurry? Let go of me first!"
"Of course I’m in a hurry." The man’s lips curled. "It pains me to think of all the times you rejected me before. Now that you’re finally in my hands, what do you think? Am I in a hurry or not?"
As he spoke, the man suddenly ripped open Phoebe Sinclair’s collar. She cried out in alarm, "Don’t!"
"What? Having second thoughts? It’s too late for that."
Phoebe Sinclair bit her lip, her voice filled with humiliation. "This is a private room at a club! Can’t you wait until we’re back at the hotel tonight?"
"I can’t! It’s much more interesting here, Eldest Miss Sinclair."
The words ’Eldest Miss Sinclair’ only deepened Phoebe’s humiliation. But it was too late for regrets. She could only make a silent vow. ’One day, I will pay back every ounce of this humiliation. Jasper Lockwood, Chloe Sterling, Tristan Sinclair... I will make them all pay for what they’ve done to me. I’ll make them suffer a hundred, a thousand times over.’
「Crimson Wing Dojo.」
After Chase Langdon and Chloe Sterling finished their serious discussion, he asked casually, "By the way, are you not going to Nocturne Group today?"
Chloe Sterling raised a hand to pinch the bridge of her nose, looking a bit frustrated. "I haven’t had any inspiration these past couple of days."
"Is it difficult?"
"Mmm, a little."
"So you didn’t go in, and Silas Coldwell hasn’t been looking for you?"
"He went back to Country E."
Chase Langdon chuckled. "No wonder you didn’t go in today."
Chloe Sterling shot him a sideways glance. "Even when he’s here, I don’t go in if I don’t want to."
"So, can it be solved before the end of the year?"
After a moment of thought, Chloe Sterling said, "I’m not sure."
"Don’t worry. You’re the Master’s personally-trained disciple. Trust me, you’ll have no problem." After speaking, Chase Langdon looked out the window and added, "It’s getting overcast. Think it’s going to snow?"
Chloe Sterling looked out the window. "Probably."
Chase Langdon: "Let’s have hot pot tonight. We can invite Jean and the baby."
"Okay." A thought seemed to strike her, and Chloe Sterling suddenly turned to him. "Chase, do you like Jean?"
Chase Langdon: "........Why the sudden question?"
Chloe Sterling: "Yes or no?"
Chase Langdon cleared his throat. "Don’t be ridiculous. Of course not."
"With that attitude, you deserve to be single."
Chase Langdon glared. "Are you looking for a beating?"
Chloe Sterling said leisurely, "You can’t beat me."
"Hah. I was just letting you win before."
Chloe Sterling pointed toward the doorway. Chase Langdon followed her finger and saw a bright, flamboyant beauty appear at the entrance. It was Jean Kensington.
