Chapter 1544 - 828: Homecoming
Chapter 1544 - 828: Homecoming
Jimmy just got home and didn't have a chance to show Nia the videos he recorded in the Dark Tower World. He spent the entire evening accompanying Nia and little Liam, recounting his experiences upon first arriving in that world. Although it wasn't quite starting from scratch, he still had to handle everything himself.
These amusing stories alone kept Liam up until he yawned and went to sleep, so essentially nothing particularly special was discussed that night.
Nia went out early in the morning and returned with a brand new laptop, of course, the cheapest one. This laptop would become a physically isolated device, completely severed from all network connections, and only then would the DV's memory card be used to read the video.
This was also forced by circumstances, as Jimmy insisted strongly at night. The laptop would be disabled from all network connections to ensure no information on it would be sent out. Furthermore, this laptop would only be used in Jimmy's study and would be stored in a safe afterward.
As for the DV memory card for recording videos, Jimmy would format it multiple times, then record empty data to fill it up, and format it again before using it once more. This was advice from a certain professional technician, trusted due to the professional's expertise, and since physically destroying the card each time and buying a new one might raise suspicions, handling it this way was most suitable.
Yesterday, Jimmy told his story, and today Nia saw Jimmy's results. Though it was only through video without actually seeing it, she rewarded Jimmy with a deep French kiss, wiping off a bit of lipstick that got on him, prompting Jimmy to tidy up and get ready to go out. Today's big event was Ruiz.
The meeting place with Ruiz was once again Jimmy's bar. This was intentional, as Jimmy currently only had this one place in New York that could be called a base. Because it was safe and reliable, this bar was becoming the designated reception area. Even during Jimmy's absence from New York, that small room was always in demand. More than once, people had wanted to make modifications, as one small room simply wasn't enough for their use.
Of course, once Ruiz arrived and was told that Jimmy would be coming later, the small room was temporarily blocked off.
Ruiz looked at Jimmy in front of him with a frown, "Did you spend some time in Africa?"
Jimmy shrugged, "Just spent more time outside, I'll recover in a while. How about a drink? Woody, gin, I want to change flavors."
Ruiz directly grabbed the whiskey bottle and glass on the table and headed to the small room. When he was somewhat suspicious, any unusual choice Jimmy made would trigger a new round of his wild imagination. Jimmy had always drunk Scottish whiskey, so why switch to gin today?
Woody poured a glass of gin from a half-used bottle for Jimmy, and just as he was about to put it back, Jimmy waved his hand, "Just give it all to me and send over an ice bucket."
Sitting on the curved sofa in the small room, Ruiz held a glass of wine, watching Jimmy walk in, saying nothing, just staring.
Jimmy sat down, took a sip of his drink, and adopted a similar posture, leaning back against the sofa.
After a while, Ruiz said, "Is there anything you want to say? About your 'trip'." Of course, he used his fingers to make air quotes when he said trip.
Jimmy: "Nothing much, just went for a stroll, found a place with not many people to stay."
Ruiz: "Oh? What did you do?"
Jimmy: "A lot indeed. There was only a rundown little cabin there, everything needed to be done by myself, including the showerhead and toilet."
Ruiz: "Seems your travelling life was pleasant, why didn't you take a phone?"
Jimmy: "Just wanted some quiet alone time, you know, too many worries."
Ruiz: "You didn't come back for a while? Nia must miss you dearly."
Jimmy replied with a smile, "No need to worry, she agreed. Oh, by the way, going alone to the wilderness is actually quite nice, away from all the trivial matters, relaxing your mind. You should try it."
Ruiz: "So, what exactly was bothersome?"
Jimmy: "You wouldn't want to know."
Ruiz: "That's why I'm sitting here."
Jimmy subtly smiled, "What do you think?" and then raised his glass for a distant toast.
Ruiz finished his drink, placed the glass heavily on the table, "Dong," "So is the long vacation you mentioned before for this?"
He stared at Jimmy, "Damn, do you have issues? Is there anything you can't talk about? Just like when Peter left before, whatever you want, just say it!"
Jimmy reached for Ruiz's glass, added two ice cubes, poured some whiskey, and pushed it in front of him, "If I told you, would you agree?"
After pushing over the glass, Jimmy sat upright, "Or rather, whom should I speak to? You?"
Ruiz's mouth slightly moved, but he ultimately didn't speak. He sighed, picked up the glass, "Alright, where did you go? No one knew when you left or when you'll return..."
Jimmy: "Isn't that normal? I needed to be alone, of course, I had to go somewhere nobody could find, no steel jungle, no pollution, not many people."
Ruiz: "You know what I'm asking."
Jimmy shook his head, "No, no, everyone has things they don't wish to talk about and apparently this is one of them."
Ruiz: "So, you'll still disappear, won't you?"
Jimmy: "Perhaps. You know I have a lot of time now and nothing much to do."
