Chapter 1534 - 823: Just Say Yes

Chapter 1534 - 823: Just Say Yes

Sitting on the edge of the bed reading a book makes it easy to forget time, especially on a silent night, with only the bedside lamp as the source of light, and nothing else to distract him. Even an infrequently read novel captivates Jimmy.

"Hmm," Nia suddenly woke up, "You're still not asleep?"

Jimmy turned his head towards Nia: "Oh, is the light bothering your sleep?"

Nia looked at Jimmy with sleepy eyes, rubbed her eyes, "What time is it? Is Liam asleep?" She sat up as she spoke, moving closer to Jimmy.

Jimmy: "The little guy is already asleep, you should sleep a bit more too, it's not even 3 o'clock yet."

Nia rested her head on Jimmy's shoulder, "What are you reading? Show me."

Jimmy smiled and showed Nia the novel cover. Nia said surprisedly, "Why are you reading this? Weren't you not interested before?"

Jimmy: "Just flipping through it out of boredom, you should rest, watching over Liam during the day is tiring."

Nia chuckled lightly, reached out to hug Jimmy's waist, "You like this book too, right? So, can I talk to Roland? Ask him to help take some pictures over there, at least they're more real than the ones in novels."

Jimmy sighed, "Alright, he'll probably be going back in a few days anyway, I'll buy a camera for him tomorrow. Alright, get some sleep, it's still a few hours until dawn."

-----------------

Having promised Nia, Jimmy did not delay and went to an apartment in the Upper West Side to meet Roland before going to work in the morning.

Roland listened to Jimmy's words and was very surprised, then felt a sense of joy. Although Jimmy had no real interest in going to the Dark Tower World with him, Nia clearly had a great interest in the otherworld, so he immediately agreed to Jimmy's request. After going back this time, he would take some things as gifts for Nia.

Roland now had the ruins with the portal as his base, with enough resources to sustain himself, no longer wandering around like before. Although there may be less excitement, even just taking pictures nearby is much more interesting than New York's concrete jungle.

Having lived in both worlds for many years, Roland knew well what to capture.

Several days later, Roland packed his backpack and came to Jimmy's house. Jimmy handed over a small bag, inside was a new camcorder, along with some spare batteries and memory cards, enough for Roland's use.

When Roland left this time, Jimmy and his family were all in the basement, and it was Nia's first time seeing the portal open normally. Roland pushed a small cart filled with the items he had purchased in recent days, all stacked in boxes on the cart. He waited for the portal to stabilize before walking through, and soon the portal closed, and the wall returned to its original state.

Nia: "So magical!" She held Liam as she came to the portal's location, reached out to touch the wall, and turned to look at Jimmy: "Have you used this before?"

Jimmy shook his head: "No, I've never gone to the other side."

Nia: "Was the scenery shown in the portal the other world?"

Jimmy: "Seems like it, it's been the same scene before, should be the location of the portal on the other side. Alright, let's head upstairs."

Nia left the basement, turning back every few steps, while Jimmy closed the hidden door again, watching Nia leave the storage room. He couldn't help but feel a bit weary, it seemed Nia was getting closer to Roland's world step by step, there's no avoiding going over soon.

-----------------

It's already been decided, Jimmy's so-called working hours have completely lost much of their meaning. Other than symbolically showing he's still in the office, there's really not much to do. After more than a month of peaceful days, Nia finally noticed his unusual behavior.

For years, Nia had known exactly how Jimmy worked—busy and passionate, really attentive to investigation cases. Even after work, he would occasionally stay in the study, going through case files. But recently, Jimmy seemed to lack enthusiasm. Considering he had just handled a major case in Albuquerque, even though it's a resting period now, he shouldn't be like this.

Yet, Nia didn't get any useful answers from Jimmy's side. Jimmy just made excuses. After all, it was work-related stuff, no need to affect Nia's mood.

Jimmy thought simply to himself, just killing time like playing a casual clock-in game, since there wasn't anything else to do, and he certainly couldn't go to the InterContinental Hotel to be an assassin, that would be too boring.

Even if the drug cartels throughout New York were to be cleared, it's not something he could completely cut off alone. Every time there's some gain, but new groups would emerge, and ordinary people would likely get hurt in turf wars.

As for the gangs, that's the job of the police and the anti-gang unit, it's got nothing to do with him.

Roland worked quickly, in fact, the time spent filming wasn't much. The reason he hadn't returned sooner was because of the mage he previously agreed to meet. Something went awry, and he didn't arrive at the ruins on time, maybe he got lost.

Finally meeting with the mage nearby and agreeing on a follow-up time, Roland activated the portal to return.

Roland brought back the camcorder and memory cards, Nia happily accepted them, took the laptop and went to the living room, plugged in the adapter, and began playing the video, "Whoa, such spectacular ruins, wait, what's this?"
