Chapter 1533 - 822: Dust Settles (Part 2)

Jimmy shrugged: "Liam is still too young, going to your world, who knows when he can come back..."

Turning a corner, Roland went to the bathroom to wash his hands, and Jimmy saw Nia holding Liam just standing in front, "Do you want to go to Roland's world?"

Jimmy smiled, reached out to take Liam, gently tapped his nose, and looked at Nia, saying: "No, you misunderstood, it won't happen."

Nia said disappointedly: "I was planning for you to record a video for me. Tomorrow I have to take Liam to the hospital for a checkup, are you coming along?"

Jimmy: "Let mom come and accompany you, I need to go to work, I've been off for too long."

Nia: "Alright, I'll call then."

Nia pulled the stroller nearby, and Jimmy placed Liam in it. After Roland came out of the bathroom, they left home together, went to the park behind to stroll and relax, and let the little one soak up some sun.

People around are already familiar with Nia and little Liam, especially those at church, even beside Jimmy they seem a bit unfamiliar, because previously, Nia always took care of the child, and Jimmy would go on inexplicable business trips for over a month, which is really too much.

Not long after Jimmy and the others started strolling, Father Rodney appeared, but he wasn't there for Jimmy, he came to see his godchild.

Liam's baptism was performed by Father Rodney; being the godfather was agreed upon in advance. Jimmy wasn't surprised, actually during his absence, Father Rodney came several times, their concern for Liam definitely exceeds that shown to regular believers.

Father Rodney leaned over to tease the little one, then took out a small crucifix from his pocket and placed it in the child's hand. He grabbed it tightly and wouldn't let go, and even tried to put it in his mouth. If Father Rodney wasn't quick, it would have been stuffed in his mouth.

The child's reaction made everyone laugh. Father Rodney took back the crucifix and put it in his pocket before getting up to greet Jimmy aside, "Recently, you met some troublesome guys in Little Rock? Father Royte was injured, too."

Jimmy nodded; he didn't expect to hide it, Father Royte was rather unlucky and would definitely synchronize information with others.

Father Rodney: "Tell me, what exactly happened over there? What kind of monster is it? How dangerous?"

For him, it was barely manageable; if it were someone else, they'd likely be in trouble. After all, it absorbs souls; he was lucky, after absorbing the Black Rainbow, he didn't have to worry about soul-targeted skills, just needed to focus on dodging and output.

Briefly introduced the monster, Jimmy said he temporarily named them, because afterward he went to handle a case, so he didn't check with the Church if they had related records.

Father Rodney shook his head: "Next time you encounter such a situation, contact us as soon as possible, you're not a professional, in case of an accident..."

Jimmy said with a smile: "We've collaborated a few times; I have the ability to protect myself, it's still not a problem for now."

Father Rodney frowned, looking at Jimmy: "It's precisely because you know some things that I'm worried you might act recklessly in certain special situations. Let professionals handle specialized matters, if it's inconvenient to contact us, at least find a professional exorcist to deal with it.

I've already had someone confirm, there have been many accidents in Little Rock in recent years, several people have become mentally ill or comatose, even died. In such cases, going alone to handle it is very unwise."

Jimmy pursed his lips; Father Rodney's advice was well-meaning. He wouldn't be ungrateful, though Father Rodney was somewhat scheming in certain respects...

After chatting a bit more, Father Rodney bid farewell and left. Evidently, this time he really came for Jimmy, which is good; at least from Jimmy's perspective, Nia and Liam now seem to have more attention from the church, making them safer.

He still needed to go to work; Jimmy arrived at his office, brewed a pot of tea, took a newspaper, and just sat on the sofa to while away the time. Suddenly, the door opened, and Dave walked in, "Damn it, can't you at least pretend to be doing something?"

The door was a large piece of glass, semi-transparent; while details weren't clear, from outside you could see Jimmy crossing his legs, one hand holding a newspaper, the other a teacup, which didn't look like what a Federation agent should be doing.

Jimmy smiled, put down the newspaper, stood up, "I need to have something to do to fake being busy. How come you're here? Sit down, have a cup of tea? I got good tea leaves from Chinatown."

Dave sat down directly, Jimmy picked up a small cup, poured him some tea, "Try it."

"Nice taste." Dave drank a little, chatting about his family with Jimmy, just some casual conversation.

After a while, drinking two brews of tea, Jimmy was clearing the tea leaves, planning to brew another pot, Dave suddenly said: "Jimmy, any interest in switching places to gain more credentials?"

Jimmy paused for a moment, then continued placing the tea leaves, looking at the teapot, "Someone's recruiting me again?"

Dave: "For a Supervisory Special Agent to advance, experience in multiple departments is necessary, experience in multiple offices is also good."

Jimmy: "What do you think?"

Dave slightly shook his head, "That's up to you, I don't have any particular inclination."

Jimmy boiled water, washed the tea while saying: "My child is still young, I don't really want to leave here."

Dave: "I understand, well then, you need to be mentally prepared, you might have to wait for several years."

Jimmy didn't stop, brewing tea is troublesome, must focus, after washing the tea he poured a cup for Dave, "Waiting is also good, it's just the right time to spend with family, enjoy some tea."

Dave personally saying it confirms it now, previously Hughes told Jimmy he might reach Ruiz's position at forty, now Dave is saying it too, looks like he needs to outlast a couple of waves.

Jimmy: "Off the record, Dave, can you give me a reason? Is it because of ethnicity?"

Dave drank tea, waited over ten seconds before saying: "Not entirely, some people worry about other things. But don't worry, I'll take care of it."

Jimmy: "Cheers then, thank you."

Dave sat for a while, then got up and left. Jimmy sat back down, continuing to drink tea.

This damn society really is infuriating; the so-called 'not entirely' means ethnicity is at least one important reason. As for the rest, probably it's because he's unmoved by coercion; Jimmy doesn't lack money, whether in the mainstream or underground he can get by, others can't find a weakness, maybe that's also part of it.

At this point, not to mention working, Jimmy even felt staying in the office was irritating, placing the cup properly, Jimmy donned his suit and left the office.

The little one overslept during the day, thus quite awake, only yawning and sleeping after midnight.

Jimmy arrived at the bedroom, changed into pajamas, got into bed, picked up 'Journey to Earth's Core', already finished by Nia, to read. Nia was already asleep, he just turned on his bedside lamp, not disturbing her.

Sometimes one has to admire these authors' imagination: Earth's interior is hollow, within this hollow layer giant monsters survive. The protagonist ends up in Earth's Core World, engaging in exploration, encountering various threats, yet in the end can return to the surface.

A bizarre world with strange monsters, odd food chains and energy usage, supported by various theories to back the story; surely the author wasted quite some brain cells.

While reading, Jimmy suddenly considered that visiting another world might not be bad; at least temporarily away from these annoying aspects here. Just for relaxation, perhaps.

Jimmy looked at Nia asleep beside him, gazed at Liam in the nursery, and shook his head, maybe another time.
