Chapter 1476 - 794: Looking for the Old One Again

Chapter 1476 - 794: Looking for the Old One Again

Priest Royte clearly isn't great in close combat. Just now, when the black mist emerged from the ground to attack his legs and feet, he was unable to maintain balance and fell directly to the ground. If he had better close combat skills or more agility, he could have at least ensured his own safety when falling.

He fell face-first, and it seemed like there was something wrong with his nose. His nose was bleeding, and it's even possible that his nasal bone was fractured. After Jimmy helped him up, Priest Royte's face still looked very pained.

"How are you? Are you hurt?" Nosebleeds are nothing serious to Jimmy. What he wanted to ask was if there were other injuries. Priest Royte gritted his teeth and denied it, even patting the dust off himself.

Jimmy looked in the direction where the black mist departed and said, "I think it's gone now. Priest, I'll trouble you to purify this tree and the surroundings before leaving. I need to see where it ran off to."

Priest Royte: "It's too dangerous. How about we wait a bit? I'll find some people to come over."

Jimmy shook his head: "No, we don't have much time. Mary has been unconscious for a day, and Cage got hit today. We must eliminate it as soon as possible, or it will get worse. Priest, you should quickly fix your nose, there might be other places needing purification later."

Priest Royte gently touched his injured nose: "Alright, then it's up to you now. I still have a bottle of Holy Water, take it with you."

He opened a box and handed Jimmy the last bottle of Holy Water along with a small round box just a few centimeters wide, saying, "This is Holy Salt. Take it with you too. If you don't know how to use it, just sprinkle it on the target."

Jimmy nodded, took the Holy Water and Holy Salt, and left Priest Royte to purify the tree. He went to the roadside, retrieved spare bullets from the car, got Cage to stay with Royte, and pursued the direction in which the black mist fled.

He was in such a hurry to eliminate the black mist because he didn't know how this entity attacked Mary and Cage, whether they had a chance to recover, or if it was related to this monster. Before eliminating it, there was still hope; otherwise, James would have to face a comatose wife, which Jimmy did not want to see.

Based on how he drove the black mist away earlier, this entity seemed to lack close combat capability. Considering Mary's and Cage's conditions, it's likely that this entity only attacked the mind or spirit, posing a lower threat to Jimmy.

Regardless of the extent of its power, looking at the injured people, they were all weak and frail, clearly indicating that this entity preferred bullying the weak and lacked the ability to handle stronger foes. Someone like Jimmy, who had enhanced abilities from the Black Rainbow and Flash Spirit abilities like Heart Eye Vision, was certainly not within its ability to deal with.

Jimmy's hypothesis was primarily based on the status of the possible victims he'd encountered thus far. Additionally, there hadn't been a massive outbreak of victims around Little Rock, making this a reasonable conclusion in the absence of other leads. With the church's subsequent purification efforts, he should be capable of dealing with the black mist alone.

The black mist flew swiftly. Jimmy had delayed for some time, making the pursuit difficult as it wasn't on a road but through grass and thickets where large ponds also obstructed his straightforward pursuit, slowing him down.

Fortunately, there was still some daylight left, so Jimmy did not have to chase in this environment at night. Otherwise, water surfaces would appear as flat land under Heart Eye Vision, and he would likely fall into them.

As the black mist flew in the air, some mist dispersed but quickly vanished. After pursuing for a while, Jimmy finally noticed traces in the air, preventing him from losing track. Soon, he saw the mist turn while descending into a forest. Jimmy stopped outside the forest to carefully observe before entering.

Forests weren't ideal scenes anywhere, whether large or small, always evoking a sense of danger, especially with thick layers of fallen leaves, weeds, and fallen or broken branches on the ground. It always felt like something might happen here.

It was the same for Jimmy. The moment he stepped into the forest, he sensed danger. His Sixth Sense, which was previously unreliable, suddenly kicked in, making him all the more cautious.

Continuing the chase in such an environment required courage, but he couldn't afford too much delay. The air trail from the black mist was fading, and interference increased within the forest. Any delay would make tracing it in the latter stages difficult.

Jimmy pursued with a dagger in his right hand and a revolver in his left when suddenly a branch stabbed towards him from the side. He quickly turned to dodge aside, avoiding the stab. Only then did he realize a pile of branches he had seen earlier was moving upwards, forming a creature of interlaced branches, some whipping in Jimmy's direction.

What the hell is this thing? Jimmy dodged while observing, as these branches weren't clean sticks and had various forks he had to carefully avoid, lest he got impaled.
