Chapter 1469 - 790: Sudden Incident (Part 2)

Perhaps finding the right person first and then having Jimmy go over would be a good idea, this way it could save a lot of time, if Jimmy travels over in a short time, he might agree.

Roland stood up, dusted off his pants, tidied up the cover in front of the portal, and quickly left the basement. He didn't go upstairs to communicate with Jimmy again but directly left the house and returned to his apartment where he was temporarily staying.

Upstairs in the bedroom, Jimmy went to the nursery. Little Liam was already asleep. Nia placed him back in the crib to rest and returned to the bedroom herself.

Jimmy crouched down to look at little Liam, a smile appeared on his face. He took out the cross necklace given by Rodney the priest from his pocket, looked at it, and directly wrapped it around a corner of the crib, letting the cross hang inside. Whether this necklace had any use or not, there was no effect for now, but at least it shouldn't cause any harm.

Back in the bedroom, Nia was standing by the window. Jimmy walked over and hugged her from behind: "What are you thinking?"

Nia slightly raised her head, using her chin to point towards Roland who had just left their home: "Roland, did he go to church today?"

Jimmy: "Yeah, he went back and forth by himself, he didn't go with anyone else."

Nia: "What are you guys talking about? Always sneaking around, it seems like you're planning something."

Jimmy rested his head on Nia's shoulder, sniffed her hair, the shampoo smell was faint, but Nia had a strong milky fragrance that basically covered the cosmetic smell, "Nothing much, he just wants to go back."

Nia turned her head and kissed Jimmy: "And what about you?"

Jimmy paused, "What about me? There's nothing wrong."

Nia: "Isn't he trying to invite you to his world? I see you guys have secretly talked many times, it doesn't seem like it's just him wanting to go back, right?"

Nia wasn't foolish, it's just that previously she was entirely focused on little Liam, subconsciously neglecting many things. Now even just thinking a little, she understood there must be something else between Jimmy and Roland that they were hiding from her, the biggest possibility being related to Jimmy.

Jimmy shook his head: "It's nothing, don't worry, I won't go, at least not until little Liam grows up."

Nia nodded, about to speak when she suddenly heard what seemed like a sound coming from Liam's side. She immediately ran over, "Oh, my little one, Jimmy, get me a diaper."

Jimmy was just about to sit down, but he could only turn around and walk to the nursery. Nia had already gone to adjust the warm water and was preparing to wash the little guy's butt.

People who have had children should deeply understand, certain smells are really strong, so it's definitely not an easy thing. But fortunately, the ventilation system was quite powerful, preventing the smell from lingering in the room for too long.

-----------------

Roland on the other side was still preparing quickly, thanks to the untraceable funds provided by Jimmy, the purchased generators and storage batteries were soon delivered to the designated warehouse. After that, Roland himself drove them to Jimmy's house, where they both, Jimmy and Roland, hauled them down to the basement, stacking them to one side.

Now Jimmy's basement was almost becoming a doomsday survival bunker; besides the power equipment, there was a batch of food and drinking water, and a pile of long-preserving compressed dry food and canned goods.

If in another country, such massive procurement behavior might seem odd, but in the United States, where doomsday survival enthusiasts are everywhere, these purchases seemed very normal, as all these items were civilian food types, not large-scale weapon purchases.

In fact, there were still some hidden dangers, since Jimmy's basement looked quite big, but most of the things Roland purchased were meant to be transported to the other side. If someone investigated, they might find the quantities of many goods completely mismatched. But who would come to check Jimmy? Even if his home electricity usage was abnormal, no one would suspect he was growing leaves at home, after all, Jimmy and Nia's identities were rather sensitive, especially now that they had just had a child...

If someone really came to investigate them, that could be entertaining, perhaps it wouldn't even need Jimmy to take action, the person could be directly crushed by the combined forces of the FBI New York office and NYPD.

The generator on the other side wasn't always running; Roland could only carry some things over by himself first, and after finding the ruins, then start the generator to connect the portal and Jimmy's basement portal. Then, only using a small cart, could he quickly move the stored supplies over. Hence, the whole process was very slow and relied on Roland himself adjusting on the other side slowly. Jimmy's side could at most assist with the moving, without making too significant actions to avoid arousing Nia's suspicion.

However, they're really just deceiving themselves, this behavior of frequently transporting supplies and equipment downstairs has attracted attention not only from Nia but also from several people, including the church's spies. Many knew that since Jimmy moved here, he started purchasing many items. But since these items didn't seem too unusual, they're just thought of as his stored backup supplies, so not too many people cared about this. Once exposed later, perhaps these people could connect many dots.

Nia of course knew what they were doing, but Jimmy repeatedly assured her these were all prepared for Roland, and Nia also knew Roland might return to his world, so she stopped asking about everything.

Roland, an outsider from another world, was someone Nia knew well. She was certainly curious, but now she wasn't in the mood to understand these things, as all her focus was on little Liam, so she didn't drag Roland around inquiring about his past, as long as she could confirm he wasn't harmful to her family.

Using the analogy of ants moving house to describe Roland's action of migrating these supplies is not excessive; until Jimmy's basement was nearly emptied, this big move continued for half a month before it was completed, the cost being the fuel he previously purchased was almost dry, presumably only enough to start the portal one or two more times.

Having explained to Jimmy to help procure some to store in the basement, Roland looked at Jimmy, turned, and entered the portal back to the Dark Tower World, turned off the portal controller, looked at the supplies in front of him, and Roland began sealing the ruins. He wanted to go out and find the former mage, to see if after he left the Dark Tower World and traveled back and forth so many times, whether this world's energy would manifest any fluctuations because of him.

These precise tasks of sensing world energy were obviously not things Roland could handle alone, he could only rely on others' judgments to determine subsequent processing.

-----------------

Little Liam was already a few months old; the chubby little guy was the apple of the family's eye. Nia's mom almost came over to stay a few days every other day as they lived in the same city, really too close, and the little guy most times was passed around between Nia and her mom. As long as he was awake, it was basically not Jimmy's turn to carry him around.

This also gave Jimmy a lot of time to handle his affairs. Strictly speaking, he was still an unlucky non-official student, but his luck was pretty good; as long as he completed credits and managed the thesis in the second half of the year, he could graduate smoothly.

A quiet one or two years didn't make Jimmy leaving the workplace; it just gave him more time to adjust between family and studies, and have paved some paths for his future promotion.

However, a smooth ride for him was almost impossible, while checking data and preparing a thesis, the phone rang and James' voice appeared from the receiver: "Jimmy, I need your help, Mary is in trouble."

Jimmy was startled, immediately asked: "What happened? Where are you?"

James: "I'm at home, Little Rock. Mary attended a club event, among the people she was with, several have shown abnormal mental conditions, she even doesn't remember who I am."
