Chapter 1452 782: It’s Confirmed
Chapter 1452 782: It’s Confirmed
Jimmy placed his hand on Nia's flat belly. Perhaps it was too soon, as he couldn't feel any difference, "When did you find out?"
Nia: "This morning, I already went to the hospital, and the doctor confirmed it, five weeks along."
Jimmy picked up the pregnancy test stick and put it back on the coffee table, looking at Nia, "Have you told Kevin and them?"
Nia: "No, I wanted you to be the first to know."
Jimmy gave Nia a kiss, "Let's do it today, we should let them know this good news."
Nia nodded, and Jimmy got up, pulling Nia with him. Just as they were about to leave, Nia suddenly asked, "You said you had good news to tell me?"
Jimmy picked up the briefcase that had fallen to the floor, "Forget it, nothing's better than this news now."
Jimmy took Nia in his car and opened the window. Although the air in New York didn't smell great, there was nothing he could do. He had smoked in the car before, a while back, but there was still some lingering smell. This car was no good, he would have to replace it soon.
As Jimmy drove, he talked about his plans, while Nia kept smiling at Jimmy's ramblings. He was a bit excited now; how could he want to change cars just because of a lingering smoke smell?
When they arrived at Kevin's house, Nia's mom was unprepared for their sudden visit. After all, when Nia and Jimmy usually came home, they would call ahead to let them know. Otherwise, there wouldn't be dinner prepared.
Nia happily jumped into her mom's arms and hugged her, "Mom, I have some special news to tell you! I'm pregnant!"
Her mom, initially surprised by Nia's excitement, immediately shrieked with joy upon hearing the news. Amid the mother-daughter laughter, she picked up the phone to call Kevin, insisting he come home right away regardless of what he was doing.
Jimmy sat across from Nia and her mom, watching them chat about things to be mindful of during pregnancy, not saying a word, his smile never leaving his face.
Kevin returned quickly, concerned by the urgent phone call that didn't specify what was going on. But when he walked in, he saw Nia, Jimmy, and her mom laughing and chatting. "What's up? Why did you want me back so urgently?"
Jimmy stood up to greet him. Nia and her mom watched with smiles as Kevin sat on the couch. Nia, still excited, said, "Dad, I'm pregnant."
Kevin, puzzled at first, was suddenly hit with the good news. He turned to look at Jimmy. Jimmy nodded, then Kevin looked at Nia. "Really? I'm going to be a grandpa?"
Nia nodded enthusiastically. Kevin loosened his tie a bit, smiling as he said, "This is really great news. How long has it been?"
Nia: "Five weeks, I went to the hospital today."
"This is the best news we've received," Kevin said, his voice steady and joyful. "We will fully support you two, no matter what you need."
The family happily chatted away, the room filled with laughter as everyone basked in happiness and anticipation for the coming new life.
Though it was a bit sudden, Nia still managed to help her mom prepare dinner for the family. After dinner, Jimmy signaled to Kevin, who nodded and followed him to the study. At times like this, when Kevin was asked to chat privately, it meant there were things to discuss.
Jimmy went into the study with his bag in hand, without saying a word, he went straight to the bookshelf, grabbed some liquor and glasses, and placed them by the sofa. "Kevin, Nia's pregnant. I think we should start the things we talked about before."
Kevin nodded slightly and clinked glasses with Jimmy after he poured the drinks. "I'll check out where we have gaps. It's not suitable for Nia to continue at the Detective Bureau now."
Jimmy and Kevin had discussed this topic before. They planned to move Nia away from frontline duties to a management position, allowing her to continue progressing while also ensuring safety. Now that Nia was pregnant, this matter had to be prioritized.
Jimmy: "Yes, and another thing, Nia's pregnant. I want to change where we live.
Our current living environment isn't great, and the people around us are complicated. Usually, it's fine, but that might not be the case in the future.
I've discussed with the Church, and there's an abandoned house next to a park in Brooklyn. I want to rent it and rebuild a two-story home. We'll live there afterward, where the environment is better. There's a church and a park nearby, and fewer people, quieter."
Kevin frowned: "Have you confirmed the surrounding environment? Brooklyn's security isn't as good as Manhattan's. Why not just buy a place?"
Jimmy: "It's okay there. I talked with the Church people, and while we can't get ownership, they can give me a long lease. I haven't investigated in detail, but there haven't been major crimes nearby in recent years. Still, I might need more specific info from your side."
Kevin nodded: "Give me the address."
Jimmy opened his bag and showed Kevin the prepared house photos and maps. Kevin noted down the address so he could investigate once he returned to work.
The FBI's data is mostly based on major cases. For assessing a city's safety, the police department has the clearest insights. 911 call center records and local case numbers and types are all recorded in the system. If not deliberately compiled, it's challenging to assess safety accurately.
Jimmy planned to tell Nia about building a house in Brooklyn. But after learning about her pregnancy after work, he couldn't focus on that. Now that the initial excitement had passed, he remembered this matter.
For Jimmy and Nia, as police officers, general safety wasn't a concern. Even in Brooklyn, Jimmy wasn't worried. But after learning of Nia's pregnancy, he suddenly realized he hadn't done his research before. Now he intended to make up for it, and Kevin was the best choice to help.
Besides investigating safety, Jimmy had another idea. Once their house was built, he wanted Kevin to arrange for more patrol cars in the area. A higher police presence naturally poses a deterrent to others, prompting them to leave.
NYPD patrol officers are abundant, and for Kevin, as director, it's not a big deal to have someone arrange it.
After discussing with Kevin, Jimmy and Nia soon left the study. On such an important day, they undoubtedly needed to celebrate as a family.
That night, Jimmy drove Nia home. After freshening up, Jimmy held Nia as they leaned against the headboard. It wasn't the right time for certain activities, but it didn't stop them from chatting. After talking for a bit, Jimmy took out the house photos he had placed by the bed and informed Nia about the plan.
Nia was quite surprised. Previously, they discussed buying a house with a yard in Jersey City, but it hadn't occurred to her that Jimmy's plan would change so quickly to Brooklyn.
After Jimmy explained his conversations with the Church and his assessment of the surroundings, Nia still didn't agree. She wanted to visit and see for herself.
Nia had a strong will, especially now that she was pregnant. Jimmy couldn't force her to agree with him. Field visits are reasonable, and Jimmy was confident the environment would satisfy Nia.
