Chapter 1450 - 781: Transfer of the Haunted House
This kind of game definitely can't expect Alex Green to play with Elliot. Besides Jimmy being capable of such a show-off move, others would surely just have Elliot stand behind the booth aiming at distant fixed targets, maybe at most adding small activities like shooting rats or pheasants.
When Jimmy took Elliot out to play, Nia didn't go to work either but pushed Roland to the shooting club.
Jimmy's activities for today were already set yesterday, and Nia was certainly aware of them. It's just that they forgot to ask Roland if he could teach her to shoot when they brought Roland back from the police station, so Nia had to go herself to communicate.
Roland didn't refuse. Jimmy's words yesterday were clearly declining; it's necessary to start with those around him to become familiar first.
Roland's teaching was completely different from Jimmy's; although Gunmen are all men without experience in teaching women to shoot, Roland had been using Revolvers for decades, amply experienced, so teaching Nia was definitely fine, and certainly much better than Jimmy's teaching. Jimmy's teaching relies more on muscle memory from years of practice as well as insights from long-term Revolver use.
Although Roland couldn't stand while teaching, sitting in a wheelchair explaining Nia's posture adjustments was no problem, from grip to stance, arm exertion styles explained comprehensively. Though Nia couldn't remember everything at once, repeated learning would surely make her learn, just don't expect her to do things like exterminating Demons as Jimmy and Roland did; self-defending is enough, which Roland realized only after Jimmy gave her that Revolver.
Wholehearted teaching and a typical coach are entirely different matters. After just a brief practice, Nia felt Roland was much more professional than Jimmy and taught exceptionally better; her accuracy also improved significantly.
.45 ACP bullets were what Roland usually used, and even sitting in a wheelchair, shooting was no problem, demonstrating while teaching. He was more dedicated than when teaching Jimmy to use a gun, earning a bit of goodwill first.
Jimmy accompanied Elliot in playing for a while; shooting isn't an activity for prolonged consecutive sessions — muscles can't endure and really need rests. During breaks, Jimmy also conveniently cared about Elliot's study progress.
Alex Green is a city mayor's advisor; such people would hardly let Elliot attend public schools. Private school education far exceeds that of public schools, both in learning content and teaching style, so no worries about these kids wasting time or life like those in public schools.
However, they didn't stay long at the farm's shooting range, returned to New York after lunch; Jimmy received a call from Priest Rodney, naturally couldn't delay too long.
After sending Elliot home, Jimmy directly went to the church to meet Priest Rodney, who didn't explain anything but handed Jimmy a rather old file. It seemed quite dated.
Jimmy opened it briefly and understood the house's origin.
Decades ago, a wealthy believer donated this park to the Church. It was previously a large estate, but after an accidental fire led to the death of the wealthy family, they no longer resided here.
After taking over, the Church cleared the estate's burnt-down houses and repurposed it into an open park.
Since property rights transferred to the Church, neither the New York City Planning Committee nor the District Committee rejected the adjustments here, while the adjacent house serves as a residence for church personnel managing the park.
Things remained normal for some time, but a few years later, continuous disappearance cases occurred within this house. Church people even discovered a supernatural case of something resembling a Resentful Spirit attacking people entering the house.
After paying a price, the Church cleared away that Resentful Spirit, yet subsequent visitors to this house gradually faced disappearances over several years.
The Church did numerous checks thereafter, finding no issues, could only temporarily shelve the house and ceased arranging residency.
Certain things' inertia is hard to avoid; after its abandonment, the Church even largely forgot about it. Given their vast asset spectrum, meddling in unhandled matters by predecessors would only embarrass some, hence even after decades, never arranged personnel to tackle this again.
Jimmy closed the file, "So, did you conduct any investigation on those people's disappearances afterward?"
Priest Rodney shook his head, "No results, that's why it was abandoned."
Jimmy: "Then... is there a possibility of transferring this place to me?"
Priest Rodney: "It's not up to me to decide, Jimmy. That house has seen too many troubles; I suggest you might consider other places."
Jimmy took two deep breaths, contemplated for a while, still shook his head, "Priest, please ask about it for me. I could rebuild that house; after all, it's already abandoned, isn't it? Besides, should something truly occur, I think I can handle it."
Priest Rodney sighed, nodded, "I can ask for you, but can't guarantee success. You must understand, this is New York."
Jimmy: "Thank you, much appreciated, Priest Rodney."
Before leaving, Jimmy took out a checkbook to donate some money to the church. Whether Priest Rodney learns of this donation depends on other priests notifying him.
Returning home, Jimmy felt puzzled seeing Nia resting at home; he initially thought she was at work today. Nia gleefully shared Roland's coaching sessions, the good results, already envisioning keeping that Revolver as a backup weapon, akin to Jimmy.
But there's a complication since this gun, strictly speaking, is an unregistered firearm, lacking registration and serial numbers. As a police officer, Nia wants to register this gun still requires some procedures. Fortunately, since she has that intent, Jimmy can only assist. Good thing his previous two guns had registration; using the former studio's name for the registration suffices, just needs a bit of time.
After some time passed, Roland could already move on his own without a wheelchair. Hospital checks confirmed that as long as avoiding intense activities, normal walking and standing pose no major issues. Still requires ample rest; muscle damage needs a long time to heal.
Soon Jimmy's vacation would end; he would return to his office and stagnate once more.
The Los Angeles case concluded already, their efficiency surpassing Jimmy's prior efforts since they identified Mrs. Harriton's lawyer, Sebastian. After leaving Los Angeles, he hid for a while; once he contacted Mrs. Harriton's family, monitored agents from the FBI found his whereabouts, apprehended him when renting a motel.
With lines of evidence Jimmy provided previously and matched interrogation records from Sebastian, the Los Angeles office successfully closed evidence linkage, solving the Harriton Foundation shareholder murder case established by Mrs. Harriton through Sebastian to an expert hitman.
Although finding the perpetrator is slim, even intermediary contacted by Sebastian vanished.
Regardless, most of the case concludes, leaving some trivial portions shelved, including Mr. Harriton's yacht explosion case. To maintain election normalization, they must make certain sacrifices.
Good news wasn't just limited to that case's closure for Jimmy; Priest Rodney shared similarly positive news, the Church agreed for property lease and house renovation rights on that establishment, not outright transfer of ownership.
