Chapter 1437 775: The Reason
Back at his own home, Jimmy finally felt completely relaxed. Nia still had to go to work, and he needed to meet and chat with other people, like Father Rodney whom he hadn't seen for a long time, his godson Elliot, and of course, he couldn't miss his in-laws.
After more than a month of absence, Jimmy had quite a few things he wanted to discuss with Kevin, especially after experiencing the situation in Los Angeles and the behind-the-scenes activities orchestrated by Dave and others. These matters were not something he could discuss with Dave, who only vaguely mentioned a few details over a meal, showing no intention of letting Jimmy delve deeper into the situation.
There weren't many people around Jimmy who understood these matters, and without a doubt, his father-in-law Kevin was the most suitable person to ask.
Nia had already called her mom beforehand, and the two would come over for dinner in the evening. Then, Nia and her mom would watch TV and chat while Jimmy and Kevin retreated to the study to talk. Some conversations were not suitable for family gatherings.
Jimmy presented his doubts, especially about why the Donkey Party internally would interfere with opponents using cases like this. Although Kevin was not clear on the details, he could roughly guess what was going on.
Kevin asked Jimmy to detail the case before providing his conjecture.
New York is traditionally a stronghold for the Donkey Party and holds significant standing within the party. Among the primary candidates this time, one hailed from New York, but this woman's reputation wasn't great. Undoubtedly, many bigwigs favored the other candidate.
After all, the old white man, who was initially the most favored, withdrew from the race. The remaining candidates were a woman and a black man. Subconsciously, many people hoped to uphold some traditions. Competing with the black candidate for the party nomination, New York's advantage wasn't substantial. To some, the equal rights movement and race still held weight. (The position of the black candidate was adjusted slightly, don't mind.)
For the disadvantaged candidate, she had quite a few allies. To turn things around, she must resort to some undisclosed tactics. Jimmy's case was perfectly moderate, not implicating high-level figures, yet it was a hidden critical node. Utilizing this key point, many could be interfered with. Though it wouldn't become a roadblock, it could certainly trip the opponent up.
However, the case later spiraled out of control, even involving upper-echelon figures, requiring the case to be suppressed. For agents like Jimmy, who could handle cases but weren't insiders, removing him from the investigation was the best solution. Once insiders handle the case, many issues could be managed.
New York's agreement was clearly due to certain pressures. As it stands now, it seems her campaign path is nearing its end.
Kevin poured himself a glass of wine while explaining, gulped it down, and said, "Jimmy, you're really a lucky guy. Political cases like this are notoriously tough to deal with. It's fortunate to extract yourself now, without worrying about being targeted for retaliation afterward."
He set down the glass, looked at Jimmy with a smile, shaking his head: "This works out too. It appears most senior leaders in the party have made their choice. At least we've got plenty of time to adjust our subsequent strategies, and some things need to be cut off."
Jimmy nodded; Kevin explained it very clearly. He could certainly conceive the advantages and disadvantages of the so-called woman and black man. Society still leans towards a racial equality era, not yet gender equality, so the advantage lay on the other side. New York was just unlucky; when faced with such matters, they could only resort to secretive measures.
Only then did Jimmy fully understand why what he did developed into this situation. As the saying goes, pulling one hair can move the whole body. The person he brought down happened to be a crucial node, prompting the headquarters to have the Los Angeles office take over his case. This was clearly because of the Harriton case and the attack on that influential figure, alarming higher-ups. They, too, were concerned about bigger issues arising, thus necessitating insiders to control everything.
Jimmy also had a hunch that the attack on the VIP might have been orchestrated by Mrs. Harriton. It was likely arranged through lawyer Sebastian since such major matters couldn't be known by her bodyguards, and Sebastian was the only one frequently visiting her safe house before her murder.
Now Sebastian has also disappeared, either having gone into hiding upon Mrs. Harriton's incident or taken out by the shadowy figures behind it. Fully clarifying these matters is now impossible.
But these no longer concerned Jimmy. The information he handed over was very detailed. It wouldn't be easy for the Los Angeles office to pin the blame back on him. As long as there are no issues at the hotel, no one will link it to Jimmy. Only Winston there knew the inside story.
This time, Kevin might also gain something, knowing the upper leaders' intentions beforehand. For those in the lower-middle strata like him, it's time to allocate resources and cultivate relationships. Although Kevin isn't very old, should he try a bit harder, becoming a congressman might be unlikely, but climbing a bit is still hopeful.
