Chapter 1425 769: The Beginning of the Melee

Lester's bodyguard, Benjamin, is quite reliable. Although they are a legitimate security company, who doesn't have a few friends?

Knight Club is a very interesting establishment. On the surface, it's just a regular membership club, but in reality, it's a recruitment spot jointly controlled by several well-known PMCs in the industry. For some retired veterans who have the channels to know about it, it's also a place to make money.

The security company where Benjamin works has nothing to do with here, as they mainly provide bodyguards for critical missions, whereas PMCs usually collaborate with international organizations, NGOs, multinational institutions, and the military. Most of their work involves foreign affairs. Through someone's introduction, he learned about this place and once came seeking work, but ultimately declined as PMC work is mostly overseas.

But he also understands the nature of this place. For certain special operations, they wouldn't refuse, including intelligence support; the only issue is how much money there is.

Benjamin found an acquaintance to arrange an introduction and finally got in touch with a broker. The two sat in a secluded corner.

Since it was an introduction through a friend, Benjamin didn't keep secrets from the broker. He only mentioned that his boss needed someone to help with some tasks and briefly described the possible scenarios they might encounter.

The broker naturally didn't refuse his request. After all, the broker doesn't personally perform the tasks; he only selects the right people to get the job done.

Currently lacking detailed intelligence support, it's temporarily impossible to determine the amount of remuneration and the timing of the operation. However, they exchanged contact information, and the broker will wait for Benjamin's next contact.

Benjamin left the club and changed taxis twice before reaching a new safe house. This time, their location was far from the original safe house and relocated to a more secluded suburban area. The previous safe house was likely exposed due to them staying there for several days, but the opponent clearly didn't pinpoint the exact location. At least Lester and the bodyguard were reliable; accidental exposure is uncontrollable.

For Lester, moving a portion of funding is certainly not a big deal. He also has a considerable amount of standby cash. Although he's not exactly a tycoon, as the head of a securities company under the Foundation, quietly taking in some dirty money is manageable.

After Benjamin told Lester about the situation, Lester began his actions. Since he had already made up his mind, he had to proceed. Hesitation and inconsistency are taboo for someone in the financial securities industry like him.

-----------------

Mrs. Harriton is really having a headache now. She knows she has become a target for others but doesn't know exactly who. It's very likely that the person targeting her is an enemy or competitor of Mr. Harriton. Since she wasn't involved in his business, she has no choice but to try reaching out to others for advice, leading her to contact Mr. Harriton's former boss.

Politicians' minds are always hard to fathom. For Harriton, as a fixer, when he could work for those above, no matter what he did, there was always someone to clean up the mess. But after something went wrong, everyone considered whether to decisively sever ties to avoid trouble.

Besides networking, Harriton's most important job was actually providing fundraising channels for various party committees. He had been doing it for more than a decade. No matter who needed it, they could find a way to contact him to prepare various events for party fundraising.

After Harriton's death, fundraising activities for a popular candidate encountered problems. The most crucial thing now is for others to continue the election campaign. As for investigating Harriton's cause of death, it's basically a task handed over directly to the FBI, which is what Jimmy is working on.

So when Mrs. Harriton contacted a certain big figure, the news she received wasn't ideal. Perhaps due to Mr. Harriton's work being effective in the past, the person still gave Mrs. Harriton some advice, mainly about information on certain competitors. Besides the opposite Elephant Party, there were several candidates on her side considered rivals.

However, it's difficult for Mrs. Harriton to get help now. It's election year, and everything must give way to party campaign activities. Mrs. Harriton has become almost useless now.

Mrs. Harriton is still recovering and unable to have face-to-face talks, resorting to phone calls. This sense of distance didn't lessen the feelings of rejection and abandonment, leaving Mrs. Harriton's face very unpleasant. Even though she doesn't know what her husband did for them, being thrown aside and ignored like this is terribly heartless.

After hanging up the phone, Mrs. Harriton asked the bodyguard to leave her room. Once the bodyguard closed the door, she immediately pushed everything around her to the ground, bursting out in resentful curses.

Although the bodyguard had left the room, the sounds inside could still be heard at the door. Clearly, the phone call wasn't good. They were just bodyguards, and unless the employer had other matters, they wouldn't intervene, so they just listened to the noises inside from the doorway.
