Chapter 1405 759: Stirring Up Trouble
The information that was sent over is certainly detrimental to some individuals. Jimmy did not choose to review this information directly. If he's taking over the investigation, he will definitely look at all the data first to avoid the preconceived bias influenced by this misleading information.
The employer of this murder-for-hire case is himself, so there is certainly no target in this data. However, if he becomes biased by this misleading information, he might turn into an accomplice in framing others. Even if he wants to find a scapegoat, he certainly cannot pick someone else's target, especially someone who is so elusive.
Actually, his original intention wasn't to find a scapegoat. He intended for Mark to investigate casually and provide a conclusion. Yet, Mark suddenly got into trouble, and now it's uncertain who the other party really is, so he cannot act rashly.
After reviewing the information, he left the hotel directly and headed to the nearest police station, identifying himself and finding a sergeant responsible for patrol management to clarify the situation of that car accident. After all, the injured party is an FBI agent, and he came across states to investigate the case. There's a broad array of possibilities with this car accident, so Jimmy could only request the sergeant's assistance in the inquiry.
The sergeant confirmed that Jimmy is Mark's superior, and due to the urgency of the accident, he arrived in Los Angeles without delay. He directly contacted the 911 dispatch center, identified the patrol officer who handled the accident, and reported the location of the 17th division police station to Jimmy, stating that he would notify the patrol officers to return to their police station soon.
Los Angeles Police Department has 21 divisions, and each division has a division police station. Patrol officers aren't stationed at a single police station, so Jimmy could only head to the corresponding police station to wait for the two patrol officers to return.
Police procedures are more or less the same. Jimmy sat in the waiting area of the police station lobby and finally saw two patrol officers coming in through the main entrance. After asking at the front desk, they directly walked toward Jimmy. The older officer said, "Officer Yang? I'm Lawrence."
Jimmy stood up and shook his hand: "That's me. Thank you both for rushing back. I want to ask about the details of that car accident, and the damaged car belongs to the FBI Los Angeles office. I hope to understand the damage situation."
Officer Lawrence nodded: "Please follow me."
The three came to a nearby empty room. The young officer poured three cups of water, and Lawrence said: "That car accident was unexpected. We were patrolling in the morning when we discovered a car with broken windows. After verification, it was a stolen vehicle. During the pursuit, he ran a red light and crashed into your colleague's car.
The individual involved has been arrested and is currently held at the detention center. The stolen car and your vehicle are temporarily stored at the evidence parking lot."
Jimmy: "What's the suspect's identity?"
Lawrence: "Jesse Grant, a local from Los Angeles with no job, a street thug with several imprisonments, theft, drug trafficking, and so on. There are many of such people."
Jimmy frowned and nodded. It seems Mark just had bad luck this time. If someone really intended to create trouble, they wouldn't arrange for such a person, right? Especially since the stolen vehicle situation was discovered early by the patrol, indicating that these circumstances all suggest this was an accident.
Jimmy: "Alright, I understand. Since my subordinate is investigating a case, I wondered if there was intentional troublemaking. Thank you both, and I'll have to bother you, could you take me to see him?"
Lawrence frowned: "Now? We are about to finish our shift."
Jimmy: "Just a quick look to confirm, sorry to trouble you."
Lawrence nodded: "Okay, let's go then."
Lawrence left the room, chatted briefly with others, and then took Jimmy away from the police station. Jimmy had taken a cab when he came, and now he sat in the back seat of the police car. It had been a long time since he experienced such a confined space, and it was really uncomfortable.
Lawrence did not bring Jesse Grant out, and Jimmy merely took a glance through the bars. A slender young white male with a shaved head, tattoos on his neck, and the rest hidden under clothing. By his appearance alone, he was just a typical gang member type, very relaxed at the detention center, not surprising considering his multiple imprisonments, sitting cross-legged on the bed, leaning back against the wall, carefree and easy.
Interrogation is certainly futile. Even if he was arranged to ram into Mark, he wouldn't admit it, particularly when it wasn't by someone's arrangement. Jimmy merely came for confirmation, and having met him, naturally, he could end it and leave.
Back to the hospital, Jimmy brought some supper for Mark, then instructed him to notify the Los Angeles office to arrange someone to handle the car.
Mark's mind hadn't recovered yet, so Jimmy didn't pressure him further. He returned to the hotel, checked in, and started reviewing the information Mark had previously investigated. There's quite a lot, given the Harriton family's substantial assets, making it somewhat problematic to deal with.
For Jimmy, he was completely inexperienced in financial investigations, particularly when he initially intended to handle it casually. Now it turned into personal involvement, still causing quite the headache.
The Harriton family started and thrived in the construction industry with numerous construction and material-related companies under their name, extending into financial areas as well. Beneath the Foundation, there's a small to medium-sized financial services company also serving as the Foundation's investment wealth management firm, managing assets worth billions. Finding financial issues within such companies isn't inherently difficult, but the challenge for Jimmy is handling it himself.
