Chapter 1390 - 751: Case Investigation_2

Chapter 1390 - 751: Case Investigation_2

Jimmy frowned: "Isn't this a bit excessive?"

Ruiz: "Just execute it, it's an order from above."

Jimmy: "Alright, then temporarily assign Mark to me, we work well together."

Ruiz nodded: "Sure, get ready, we'll depart tomorrow."

Jimmy nodded helplessly, yet another business trip. Since getting married, his travel frequency seemed to be a bit too much. He could only have a good talk with Nia and hope to get through tonight peacefully.

-----------------

The next day, Jimmy was at the airport where he met Mark, who was also carrying a suitcase. The two registered and then boarded the flight to Miami, equipped with gear bags and suitcases.

After taking the water cup handed over by the flight attendant, Mark looked around before whispering: "Yang, what exactly is going on this time? I got a sudden deployment order yesterday to come to the airport and cooperate with you to go to Miami today."

Jimmy also lowered his voice; their conversation wasn't suitable for public ears: "Ruiz didn't tell you? It's the yacht explosion case we saw on the news that day. We're being assigned to investigate it."

Mark nodded: "I know about this case, but why us?"

Jimmy: "It's been arranged from above, just follow the orders. Once we're there, listen to my plan and avoid conflicts with them."

Mark: "OK, got it."

Mark picked up a novel he had prepared earlier and started reading, while Jimmy relaxed a bit more, having already observed all the passengers beforehand. He closed his eyes to rest, because working late into the night was exhausting.

On the day of the yacht explosion, the Miami office had already intervened in the investigation. The Coast Guard and FBI had gotten scavenging teams to start salvaging the vessel and bodies, as well as anything relevant in the surrounding sea. None of these were easily settled; it was time-consuming and labor-intensive.

When Jimmy and Mark arrived at the Miami office, they had already received a notification from headquarters, informing them the case investigation was being taken over by agents from the New York office. After checking in at the reception, a detective quickly came out to greet them.

Detective: "Welcome, both of you, to Miami. I'm Senior Agent Austin Wright."

Jimmy: "Manhattan office SSA Jimmy Yang, and this is Special Agent Mark Anderson."

Austin Wright led them to a private office, "Due to time constraints, we can only temporarily arrange for you to work here. Relevant office supplies will soon be in place."

Jimmy: "Thank you, Agent Wright. May I ask where your current investigation team is? I'd like to quickly get into work mode."

Austin Wright looked at Jimmy in surprise: "Don't you need to rest first? We've already booked hotel rooms for you."

Jimmy glanced at Mark, shook his head at Agent Wright: "Let's get started as soon as possible. I'd like to gather the current investigation team members to synchronize the investigation progress."

Agent Wright nodded: "Of course, you can rest here a bit first. I'll arrange for them to return for a meeting right away."

After Agent Wright left, Jimmy and Mark set aside their luggage and gear bags, slightly tidied up the office desk, and soon received a phone call from Agent Wright to go to the conference room.

As it turned out, the atmosphere at the Miami office wasn't good, just like the time when Jimmy coordinated from headquarters to take over the Washington, D.C office's missing agent case. The local office people showed the same displeasure when handing over materials, just like Miami office folks, who also wore unimpressed faces.

However, given orders came from headquarters, they didn't embarrass Jimmy directly, and brought out all the data collected over the past few days. In the conference room, each agent responsible for the investigation reported the current progress separately.

In a large conference room, Jimmy and Mark sat on one side of the long table, currently the investigation team members were on the other side. After Agent Wright introduced their identities, Jimmy didn't engage in excessive pleasantries; he directly asked the investigation team agents to report the current progress first.

"The current yacht salvage progress is not ideal, we've salvaged a few main parts of the vessel, but the most important black box and data storage equipment have not been found yet."

One agent played the current salvage progress on the front display. The salvaged vessel parts were laid on an empty space at the pier, but the vessel still looked incomplete.

"Some parts of the vessel were shattered too badly, and we haven't completely retrieved them. It's even possible part of the vessel has drifted away with the ocean currents. We've gotten these so far. Through obtaining the design drawings from the shipbuilding company and confirmation from their engineers, we've found four suspected explosion points on the confirmed vessel parts. However, the fragments from these explosion points are too fragmented to fully piece together."

Jimmy and Mark took notes of the clues that had been investigated, "Have explosives tests been done? Although they've been immersed in seawater, there should be portions that can be tested, right?"

The agent nodded: "From one fragment, we've detected C4 explosive residue. If the explosive used is consistent, that's the conclusion."

Jimmy: "Has the detonation device been confirmed?"

Agent: "It's temporarily uncertain. We need to wait for all the fragments to be found and then have the shipyard's engineer conduct verification before confirmation. But for now, the likelihood of finding the detonation device seems small."

Jimmy nodded: "Continue."

The agent closed his materials. Another agent began displaying the salvaged bodies, and provided identity data for each identified body. To their surprise, the bodies were relatively intact, which meant that at least the located bodies weren't near the explosion point; otherwise, they would have found body fragments.

Agent: "We've currently confirmed the captain and several registered crew members, and identified five passenger identities."

The agent showed the identities of five people, one of whom was Jimmy's target: "This yacht belongs to the Harriton Foundation, currently used by Elias Hariton, the chairman and CEO of the Harriton Foundation, who is also one of the deceased. Another related deceased person is the Harriton Foundation's Human Resources Director Lucas McKinley. The other three are also known business figures."

Jimmy: "How many unconfirmed identities are left?"

Agent: "Six bodies, all female. Two of them look relatively young. We've collected fingerprints, but have yet to match any information in the fingerprint database."

Jimmy: "Contact the Harriton Foundation, let them confirm the identities of these six people; whether they are employees."

Agent: "The Harriton Foundation's headquarters is in Los Angeles. We've requested colleagues from the Los Angeles office to verify. There's no news yet."

Jimmy: "OK, continue."

Another agent picked up his dossier and stood up, "We salvaged a lot of items from the sea. Besides the equipment originally on the vessel, there are several damaged phones and a video camera, which have been transferred to the technical department for data recovery. No results yet."

Jimmy recorded again, looked up at the agents across the conference table: "Nothing else?"

Seeing no response from the agents, Jimmy knew there was trouble now; it seemed like a silent treatment. "OK, now we'll add a few investigation directions. First, the yacht's trajectory before the explosion, at which ports it docked, we need to verify this information quickly as the explosives may have been installed when docked."

Second, promptly complete the autopsy on the salvaged bodies, confirm whether they died from the explosion or drowning, or if the explosion occurred post-mortem. The forensic doctor should be able to provide a conclusion.

Third, investigate everyone whose identity is confirmed, check if they have known enemies, and see if this incident was a vendetta or other cause."

OK, temporarily add these three pieces of investigation information; let's take action. "

Jimmy stood up and clapped his hands: "This case investigation is very important. Thanks to everyone for your early investigation, now we need to expedite the investigation progress, hoping for everyone's cooperation to quickly provide the public an explanation."
