Chapter 1388 750: Professionals (Part 2)
Jimmy drank the whiskey in his glass in one gulp: "It's definitely fake to say I'm not disappointed, but there's nothing to be done now."
He placed the glass on the table and looked at Winston: "I've given up, thanks again for your assistance, Winston."
Saying this, Jimmy turned to leave, but Winston suddenly raised his voice slightly: "Just like that, you're giving up? Jimmy, have you forgotten what we do?"
Jimmy's hand was just on the doorknob when he heard Winston's words, and he stopped where he stood, then slowly turned around, squinting as he asked: "What do you mean?"
Winston's face, initially expressionless, suddenly showed a hint of a smile. He gestured left and right with his right hand, "This is the Intercontinental Hotel."
Jimmy took a deep breath, realizing what Winston meant. Some things seemed difficult, but if you found the right professionals..."I think, I need to do some business with you, big business with hidden employers."
-----------------
"Breaking news, a yacht has exploded off the coast of Miami, the Coast Guard and local police have intervened in the investigation. The cause of the accident is unknown, and casualties cannot be determined at the moment. According to our understanding, the yacht belongs to..."
Jimmy was chatting with Ray and the others in the Homicide Team office when this news came on the TV. Everyone turned to look at the TV, the footage shot from a helicopter showed debris and wreckage scattered on the sea surface, even bodies floating, but the yacht itself had disappeared, presumably sunk.
Ray watched the TV and said: "This kind of explosion must be from professional explosives, right? A gas explosion couldn't have this kind of impact."
Jimmy: "Hmm, I've investigated several explosion cases before, and seen gas explosion scenes. To blow it apart like this, it's likely a significant amount of C4 was used; homemade bombs typically wouldn't do this."
Ray: "Looks like they'll be busy for a while. This kind of incident is definitely big news, just wondering who they provoked to get bombed like this."
Jimmy: "Let's see how Miami's investigation goes, it doesn't concern us. Alright, I'm heading off."
Jimmy got up and left the Homicide Team office, returning to his own office, where he picked up a bottle of whiskey, half empty, and poured himself a drink, "May you all find joy in Hell."
Winston's actions were swift; though it's unclear how he managed it, the news now reported the Coast Guard had retrieved several bodies, although their identities are yet to be confirmed.
The yacht belonged to the target company, as per prior intel, mainly used by the target. If it's bombed, it means the target was likely onboard; just unclear how many were caught up in it.
Winston's side hasn't sent any detailed information yet, probably waiting for confirmation before notifying him.
Professionals really handle things differently; if Jimmy had done it himself, it would have been a brute force approach, killing everyone and needing help to handle the bodies afterward. He couldn't manage it alone, whereas these professionals could plan based on the target's whereabouts, finishing it with a simple "boom", and leaving cleanup to others, keeping themselves out of sight. Definitely more sophisticated.
An explosion like this at sea, tracing clues is extremely difficult. The person who planted the explosives surely wasn't on the yacht, and retrieving the yacht to check for traces is challenging with current technology. Investigating would take a lot of manpower and time, not easy to resolve.
Jimmy downed his drink, set the glass aside, and started searching online for news reports on the incident; some details wouldn't be broadcasted but might circulate unofficially, depending on censorship.
Two days later, Jimmy arrived at the hotel, Winston handed a list to Jimmy: "I think you can rest easy now."
Jimmy glanced through the list, looking at Winston in surprise: "All of this?"
Winston nodded slightly, Jimmy looked at the list again: "This really is a major incident."
Winston: "Once you confirm everything, we'll close the matter here."
Jimmy handed the list back to Winston: "Thanks."
Winston: "Now, let's discuss other matters."
-----------------
Jimmy left the hotel with a calm expression. The topic Winston discussed with Jimmy wasn't complicated or hard to handle, just a bit embarrassing for him.
As the new NYPD Commissioner, Kevin Miller was already a major figure in New York City, making him an essential contact for the Intercontinental Hotel, primarily active in the city. They had found the perfect mediator: Kevin's son-in-law, the renowned FBI figure, Jimmy Yang.
Indeed, Winston's topic with Jimmy involved helping liaise with Kevin, and after this, Jimmy wouldn't be involved further. Winston and the others had their methods to communicate with Kevin smoothly afterward, having done this many times before. In fact, various New York City's key figures were their associates.
Jimmy didn't mind facilitating contact between Kevin and the hotel. Even without him, Winston and his team wouldn't struggle to connect with Kevin anyway. The hotel's enduring presence in New York was no accident; it's widely known that high-ranking officials often have ties with underground organizations. Such a hidden establishment definitely requires support from governmental and local power players to operate at this level, though who leads might be another story.
As for who supports the hotel from behind, Jimmy had no clues yet, and Winston and his team wouldn't disclose such matters to him. This is a huge organization with branches worldwide, not propped up by just one or two power players. It's likely influential in multiple countries; relatively speaking, a New York City police commissioner isn't that big of a deal.
Jimmy also knew, Kevin wasn't one of those stubborn old conservatives; like other politicians, he recognized that rejecting certain things might make his future path difficult.
Soon, Jimmy received two invitations to a charity fundraising gala co-organized by several business people and the New York Police Fallen Heroes Foundation, inviting him and Kevin to attend. This event focused on NYPD community relations and charitable care for officers injured or killed in the line of duty, aligning perfectly with Kevin's duties.
New York has countless foundations, but as for this particular foundation's background, Jimmy wasn't sure. He only knew the gala was arranged by Winston, and it wasn't necessary to delve into how he gathered so many participants.
After work, he personally delivered the invite to Kevin's home, leaving it up to him to decide whether to attend.
Having attended numerous galas since his appointment, Kevin knew exactly what these events were about; he just didn't understand why Jimmy was involved, knowing he typically disliked attending such public crowds, contrary to his usual demeanor.
Jimmy couldn't outright explain, but he spoke of introducing Kevin to a few people, perhaps due to trust in Jimmy, Kevin didn't probe further, just checked his schedule and agreed to attend.
After Jimmy left, Kevin made a call to have information on the Fallen Heroes Foundation compiled and delivered to his office the next day. He was still slightly concerned, unsure if Jimmy was walking them into a trap.
