Chapter 1374 743: Restless People (2)

But for someone like Jimmy, who can really refuse a visit with pleasure? So he avoids when he can, and bears it when he can't. It's not just the people in the public affairs office and administrative departments; even Ruiz is greatly troubled by him.

So after wandering around for a while, when Jimmy proposed to go to Dallas to see Lambert, Ruiz happily approved it. He didn't count it as a vacation, but directly sent Jimmy away under the pretext of business travel. Clearly, he underestimated how much a bored Jimmy could pester them. If Dave weren't of such high rank, he probably wouldn't have escaped Jimmy's harassment either.

Jimmy chatted with Ray for a while before heading to see Lambert, making sure everything was normal on his end before preparing to leave. Of course, he also needed to let Nia know in advance.

Nia was aware of Jimmy's unfortunate situation, but she wasn't familiar with the complexities here, and Jimmy didn't want to explain too clearly, as it was a bit embarrassing. So she could only ask Kevin about it.

Luckily, Kevin understood the sordid thoughts of these upper-level people, and after talking to Jimmy once, he managed to calm Nia down. It was just a matter of one or two years tops, and it would be over quickly.

Now Nia also knew that Jimmy was bored, and taking this time to go out and unwind a little wouldn't be a bad idea. Although Jimmy appeared normal after getting off work, having nothing to do was still somewhat concerning, given the numerous examples of Americans turning into couch potatoes for lack of work.

Early in the morning, Jimmy kissed Nia goodbye, pulled his suitcase, and left the house, quickly arriving in Dallas.

Jimmy smiled and knocked on the half-open door, "Knock knock," and Lambert looked up, "Oh, Jimmy boy. Come in."

Jimmy pulled the suitcase inside, "Mr. Lambert, long time no see."

Since Lambert's promotion, his office had changed; of course, it was slightly larger and the environment better than the previous one, but the arrangement hadn't changed much, seemingly just moved everything over from his old office.

Lambert also stood up from his place and moved to the reception area. Jimmy put his suitcase to the side and handed over a box of cigars, which he had prepared in advance, "Local Havana goods, reportedly from a special little workshop, give it a try."

Lambert didn't decline, took the box, and opened it, pulling out one, then put it under his nose to smell, "The smell is nice. Where did you get this?" Saying this, he took a cigar cutter from nearby, trimmed it, and started tasting.

Jimmy chuckled, "You know, smuggling is rampant in New York, you occasionally find some good stuff."

These cigars were actually Kevin's, borrowed from his study room. Kevin's source wasn't exactly legitimate either, but since they're consumables, it's no big deal for the handlers to keep a bit of the good stuff.

Lambert nodded approvingly after taking a couple of drags, "Indeed quite good. Don't you want one?"

Jimmy shook his head, "Nah, I don't really get cigars." He casually took out his own cigarette pack and lighter, lighting up a cigarette.

Lambert: "Is there a reason for your visit? Seeing you're carrying a suitcase, are you traveling somewhere?"

Jimmy: "Oh, it's not a business trip, just came to see you, and maybe catch up with other friends, been busy lately."

Lambert: "I see, since you are here why not stay a couple of days and have some fun. How's Ray doing in New York?"

Jimmy laughed, "Don't worry, I've organized everything to support him fully. There's backing from up above and the team below is quite capable as well. He'll be fine."

Lambert nodded, "Yeah, I'm confident in your arrangements. It's good to let him change the environment, as for you? Would you consider coming to Dallas?"

Jimmy sighed deeply, "I'm not in control, leaving New York isn't easy."

Lambert laughed heartily, "Of course, if I were in Dave's position I wouldn't let you go either. But don't worry, you're still young, time is on your side. Be patient and there will be a place for you."

Jimmy: "Thank you."

After chatting for a while, Jimmy extinguished the cigarette, "If there's nothing else, I'll be going, I need to visit Father Horton, haven't seen him in a while."

Lambert: "Father Horton, huh? Don't go to the church, he had an incident recently and is in the hospital now."

Jimmy looked at Lambert in surprise, "What happened?"

Lambert: "I'm not sure, only found out last weekend at the church, visited him in the hospital but he didn't say what happened."

Jimmy: "I'll stop by the hospital and see him too then, could you give me the address?"

Lambert gave Jimmy the hospital's name and location, and after exchanging a few words, Jimmy got up to leave. Lambert kindly arranged a temporary car for Jimmy, showing great courtesy.

Father Horton was the priest who performed the exorcism ceremony for Jimmy; since then, Jimmy underwent some changes and was much less violent. Jimmy suspected the exorcism might have cleaned out some impurities causing his aggression, though he didn't have proof.

After driving to the hospital, Jimmy asked for the room number at the nurse station, and knocked at the door with some flowers he had bought, before entering the room.

Father Horton was lying on the bed, its upper part raised. Horton tilted his head and showed a surprised expression upon seeing Jimmy entering, "Oh, Jimmy, why are you here?"

Jimmy: "I traveled to Dallas for business, heard you were in the hospital so I came to see you. How are you? Is it serious? Was it a car accident?"

Horton's left leg was hoisted, in a cast, same with his left arm, resting on his chest. He glanced at his leg and quietly said, "A mishap, got hit by a big tree. But at least I'm not dead."

Jimmy placed the flowers on the bedside cabinet, "How does a tree hit both your arm and leg? Did it sweep sideways?"

Horton: "No, just the leg. The arm is a different story. Why did you come to Dallas?"

Jimmy: "I came to see Lambert. Didn't know about your injury until I got to his office. Honestly, are you in trouble?"

Horton nodded, "Yes, got this injury during an exorcism, but luckily managed to drive it out. Otherwise, I couldn't have survived."

Jimmy frowned in concern, "That bad? Can you tell me more?"

Horton looked at Jimmy, "You folks can't handle this kind of thing. I've already contacted the Houston Diocese for them to send people to manage it."

Jimmy sat on the bed, "I'm just idle, share it with me, give me some insight. By the way, I'm also an unofficial exorcist certified by the New York Archdiocese..."

Horton was wide-eyed. The exorcism ceremony he performed for Jimmy, who was merely an ordinary person back then. Due to some fate, he could see some supernatural occurrences. How did he become an exorcist?

Jimmy noticed Horton's disbelief, fetched his exorcism badge given by Father White from his suitcase, and handed it to Horton.

Horton took it with his good hand, examined it, and returned it to Jimmy, remarking with admiration: "Didn't expect you could acquire this. Alright, if you want to hear, I'll tell you. Near Dallas, an area had rumors of a vampire legend..."

North of Dallas, Texas, there is a small town surrounded by woods, "Luoying Town" (a fictitious location). Here, there's a decades-long legend about a mysterious creature that can drain the blood and soul of living beings, known to residents as the "Texas Shadow Beast."
