Chapter 1359 736: Human Sentiment
Ruiz and Jimmy shook hands, patting each other's backs. Jimmy whispered, "My condolences. Let's take a look."
Ruiz released Jimmy, shook hands with Javier and Hope behind him, and the crew members beside him had already pushed the coffin to the cargo hold's door. A lift came to lower the coffin to the ground.
Standing next to the coffin, Ruiz reached out and opened it. The head of seventeen had been shot, and the mortician arranged by Ghost had done some covering up, but the bullet hole marks were still visible.
Ruiz whispered something, but it was too soft for Jimmy and the others to hear. He quickly closed the coffin, waved his hand, "Take it back."
An agent standing behind stepped forward, pushing a small cart towards a parked funeral home vehicle. Ruiz returned to Jimmy's side: "Thank you, it's been hard on you."
Jimmy: "Don't say that, he was also my colleague."
Ruiz nodded, "Let's go, we'll head back first."
The three split up into different agents' cars to head back, with Jimmy of course sitting in Ruiz's car. A young agent drove in front, with Ruiz and Jimmy sitting in the back, casually chatting about Jimmy's recent cases on the road, especially this trip to Juarez.
Ruiz already knew about the explosion, but not the details. Jimmy's return was definitely a chance to ask about it face-to-face. There was no hope for Jimmy to write this report; Ruiz knew Jimmy didn't like dealing with paperwork. Fortunately, with Javier involved, he could write the report later.
Upon learning that the explosion was caused by Juarez police, who were looting property, Ruiz was truly speechless. He hadn't worked with those people over there and didn't know they were so wild in their conduct, already being dishonest while on a mission. The FBI doesn't operate like that.
As for after the explosion, the people staying in the hospital for a long time until they were able to leave the country, the case couldn't continue being investigated, at least on the surface. Of the four people, only Jimmy could roam freely, but him investigating abroad alone is strictly speaking a violation, so this matter ends here.
Regarding the body of seventeen, Ghost handled it reliably, having a police informant discover it, as well as a gang member who was about to dispose of the body. From him, it was learned this kidnapped American in Juarez was related to the previous FBI investigation.
The police contacted Jimmy and the others, sent photos for identification, and then arranged for the cargo plane to bring the remains back, completing all official processes in just two days, an almost miraculous speed, though not without substantial cost.
As for that gang member, no one paid attention to his whereabouts or aftermath, of course, he might have already left jail to return to his life now.
The distance to the office wasn't far, but Jimmy didn't have Ruiz drop him off directly. Having been out for too long, he really wanted to go home first.
Ruiz didn't object, with Javier present, handling many aspects was more manageable. He directly told Jimmy to rest at home for a few days, with subsequent arrangements left until headquarters completed the case closure process.
Hope was rather unlucky. Originally heading back to Washington, D.C., she detoured to New York, though she'd gotten used to it by now during her stay, treating it as a trip, despite the short distance from Washington, D.C.
Jimmy took out his key from the bag to open the door, immediately throwing himself onto the couch. It's always more comfortable being at home.
Nia was still at work, and after resting for a while, Jimmy went to the study, first checking the cell phone from Little Rock. Indeed, Roland had called several times, but all were during the day, when Nia hadn't picked up.
During these past few days, whenever he had the chance, he would call Roland's number, but regrettably, there was never any signal. Now that he's back, there's an opportunity to have the office tech personnel locate it. Calling for a personal matter is inappropriate, so it's better to handle it sneakily yourself.
Though it's been a while since he was home, with Nia still around, there wasn't that musty smell of a long unoccupied place, and since Jimmy wasn't home, it seemed even tidier.
Jimmy took out and sorted the clothes and gear from his suitcase, first washing up, then changing into a suit, tidying himself before heading out with his car keys.
Finally back, he of course was going to find Nia first, putting everything else aside. Passing by a flower shop, he bought a bouquet, two boxes of donuts, and coffee, then walked openly into the police station...
Jimmy was known to the detective department, and seeing him with flowers, those around greeted him, and he smiled in response. Soon, Nia came out from the office, screaming and running over to hug Jimmy.
Distributing donuts to others, Jimmy took the coffee with Nia to a small adjoining office, sitting in Nia's chair, while Nia placed the flowers Jimmy brought into a decorative vase, throwing out the original flowers.
"How's home been recently? Anything happen?" Jimmy reached out, pulling Nia to sit on his lap, even though there were other chairs available in the office.
