Chapter 1356 734: Stirring Up Trouble_2

Jimmy nodded, "I understand, so let's leave it at that."

After speaking, Jimmy stood up to leave, and Alejandro asked, "When do you plan to return to New York?"

Jimmy: "Maybe in a day or two, there are some loose ends to tie up, leaving too many risks isn't good. Take care and heal well, goodbye."

Jimmy opened the door and left. Alejandro escorted him to the door, watched him enter the elevator, and then closed the door, sighing in relief. He took out his suitcase, pulled out paper and pencil to quickly sketch the Ghost's image. Although the distance was a bit far, he could see the Ghost's appearance clearly; this was crucial intelligence that needed to be completed while the impression was still fresh.

Having just drawn the outline, he paused, recalling Jimmy's words earlier, suddenly realizing what Jimmy meant by tying up loose ends.

Being publicly threatened, even abroad, a seasoned FBI agent like Jimmy wouldn't just swallow his anger, especially when he's a butcher who took out dozens of people within days—a super ruthless person; slinking back to Albuquerque from Juárez in defeat didn't fit his character, or at least wasn't his usual behavior.

The Ghost is done for. Alejandro tossed the pencil onto the drawing board, leaned back against the sofa, and stared at the ceiling.

Another clue dealing with the Sinaloa Group is going to break off; FK, not a single task he's handled during this trip has gone smoothly.

Alejandro stood up and picked up the bedside phone, asking reception to send up half a dozen beers. With so much distress, he needed to relax a bit. There was nothing he could do in this situation; should he alert and report Jimmy? To whom? Warn who?

After tipping, Alejandro took the beer back to the sofa, opened a bottle, and drank slowly, soon realizing the problem.

Jimmy came directly to him, certain that he was the leak. Given the timing, he surely hadn't any opportunity to discuss the matter with others—so what if Jimmy keeps an eye on him in the future?

A shiver ran down his spine; the thought was really too crazy. With someone like Jimmy constantly watching him, what could he do? Would hoping that once Jimmy returns to New York he'd stop suspecting or stalking him be realistic?

Although Jimmy is just a senior agent at the FBI division with limited authority, for someone capable of two massive massacres, is the minor official authority an issue? Even if authority limits prevent him from directly tracking, can't he find other ways? Would someone like him truly care about an FBI position?

The more he thought, the possibilities seemed boundlessly increasing; Alejandro quickly set down the beer bottle, opened his computer, and started researching.

Jimmy's information was crystal clear. His computer might not directly access the main database, but finding a publicly listed FBI agent was doable. Yet seeing Jimmy's diverse shooting records made Alejandro break into a sweat—why hadn't this killer become publicly known? Nationally famous?

Jimmy's string of kill records indicated countless investigations—internal and external. And despite all that, they hadn't got rid of him; instead, he's promoted to senior agent around age 30 and leads an independent group. Evident recognition from within FBI, and surely not just New York office, strong figures at headquarters must surely support him.

Even if someone like him breaks rules, does it matter? Who dares propose firing him from the FBI? People like him are departmental treasures, absolutely priceless assets; nobody would trouble him—indeed, many would cover for or clean up after him.

Alejandro recalled the scene in the hospital room; Javier trusted Jimmy enough to toss him his own gun, prioritizing not exposing Jimmy's identity despite potential investigations—this level of trust truly attested to Jimmy's reputation and trust within the FBI's New York office.

Grabbing the half-empty beer, Alejandro gulped it down, belched, expelling exhaust, then started searching for connections with New York locals on his computer. He needed further insight into Jimmy, fully gather intelligence—official records were insufficient to completely understand Jimmy.

The wait for information was exceedingly torturous; not until evening did Alejandro finally receive the call. Jimmy's influence in New York far exceeded what he gathered from records, especially lacking insights into his wife. Nia Young's father was deputy commissioner at New York Police Department, also held good relations with the current mayor, wielding considerable local connection.

Over the phone, many things couldn't be said, yet just the information shared sufficed to showcase Jimmy's capabilities; unwavering at the FBI New York office, supported likely by his father-in-law's connections, given their locality's operational needs—it's downright unwise to offend local bigwigs.

Changing clothes, Alejandro left the hotel to have dinner; finally back home, far safer than Juárez. After hospital meals for days, he'd yearned for a change in taste. But before finishing dinner, he received a call noticed within CIA internal number range; sensibly not a good idea to answer CIA calls within restaurant—Alejandro hung up, settled the bill, left the diner.

Katherine Prado from the Anti-Terrorism Bureau wasn't one to idle and coast along. Even within CIA's internal atmosphere, she caught winds of New York intelligence investigations, usually indifferent until spotlight fell on Jimmy Yang of the FBI.

Katherine knew of Jimmy's departure from CIA; when he took that file from her, she initially investigated back at headquarters, only to discover all traces of Jimmy vanished—no Jimmy Yang within CIA archives anymore. Then she understood someone high up must be quietly deleting all traces—an executive with substantial authority must surely back him.

Since then, she no longer contacted Jimmy for business matters—effectively treating him as defunct operative. At Jimmy's engagement party, she grasped his backing; she knew the former CIA Deputy Director, also directly observed part of Jimmy's connections—enough to intimidate many.

Now her side's about to probe into Jimmy again—it'd be troublesome; she must ensure investigation doesn't shift Jimmy's focus onto her side. While they shared okay relations, potential altered situations might trigger unwanted outcomes.

Katherine readily traced the source—a senior agent responsible for Central and South American affairs; not same business lines, but contacting him wouldn't be tough.

It wasn't unexpected her call was dropped; using desk-side internal phone, seeing call then disconnecting implied inconvenience—a wait would do, soon Alejandro returned the call, "Who is it?"

Katherine introduced herself, "Katherine Prado, Anti-Terrorism Bureau in New York. Agent Gomez, are you available now?"

Alejandro hadn't anticipated contact from New York. Bewildered, he asked, "Now's fine, what does Ms. Prado need?"

Katherine: "I heard you're investigating someone?"

Alejandro absolutely puzzled, "Is there an issue?"

Katherine: "If possible, I'd like to know reasons behind your investigation. He's our key partner."

Alejandro inhaled sharply; was he stirring a hornet's nest? Right after discovering Jimmy's wife's family status, suddenly came this call out of the blue—another agent personally warning him?

He certainly wouldn't assume Katherine was merely asking—citing only department and name must reflect at least a managerial role. New York's Anti-Terrorism Bureau ranked high even within CIA, she wouldn't waste efforts, warranted reasons must surely relate to interests before reaching out; directly refusing risked her calling Jimmy.

Alejandro: "No special reasons. He and I recently returned from Juárez City, collaborated on department joint mission—just seeking clarity on my partner is all."
