Chapter 1338 - 726: Reconnaissance Patrol
Although Javier told Jimmy not to worry about them and to carry out the rescue mission himself, such matters are still very sensitive, especially since they are currently abroad, effectively isolated and unsupported for a short period. The threats Jimmy faces alone are significant, not only the danger but also the accountability afterwards.
Jimmy pulled a chair to sit against the wall in front of the three of them, crossing his arms and leaning against the back of the chair as he pondered over the matter.
Alejandro looked at Javier. Although Jimmy was the first to warn about the explosion, rescuing an FBI undercover agent captured in Juarez, facing numerous gang members and professional drug dealers, it was extremely dangerous. "Are you sure Jimmy can handle it alone?"
Javier looked at Jimmy: "If there's anyone who can do it, I believe it's Jimmy. I trust him, even if the rescue fails, he can definitely make it out safely."
Jimmy shrugged, agreeing by default with Javier's assessment. The issue of danger wasn't that relevant; in this urban environment, unless there was large-scale cover fire, just dealing with these gang members wasn't particularly dangerous. Even without mentioning running away, as long as Jimmy had enough time, he could definitely cut a path through.
Alejandro didn't expect Javier to trust Jimmy so much. He frowned at Jimmy and then looked at Carlos, "Carlos, tomorrow morning, get in touch with Albuquerque, inform them of the current situation, and see if they can send another team over."
Carlos nodded. He and Alejandro only suffered minor internal injuries from the shock wave, without any signs of concussion, just hit by debris in various places. Compared to Javier's condition, they were much better now.
However, this situation made Jimmy feel weird about their relationship. Normally, Alejandro seemed to be the leader, but when liaising with the DEA office in Albuquerque, it was Carlos doing the coordinating, and also in communication with Juarez police forces, it appeared that Carlos was leading the entire mission.
It was still crowded and chaotic here; Jimmy needed some quiet to think things through. He stood up and said, "I'm going out for a smoke." Saying this, he pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and walked out.
His concern wasn't the action but the aftermath. Regardless of whether his mission succeeded or failed, it would surely be an unauthorized action by the Mexican government and Juarez police. If no one pursued the matter, fine, but if they did, it would be a big problem, especially since he came on official business this time, which was entirely different from when he took down that drug den earlier.
In such circumstances, he couldn't just act on a whim. Yet if he informed Juarez police of his actions, not only would he not have their approval, but insiders in the police would surely leak the information. By the time the mission was approved and began, the target would have already fled without a trace.
After finishing his cigarette, Jimmy returned to the hospital room. There was no other way; he had to share his thoughts with the three of them, as the matter was somewhat complicated.
Alejandro's expression still seemed odd. After a moment of consideration, he suddenly spoke: "Since our people are injured, someone must stay at the hospital to watch over us. Jimmy, you've been here the whole time, never left, we know nothing of the other matters."
Carlos sharply turned to look at Alejandro but said nothing. It was clear he had something to say but didn't openly oppose Alejandro.
Jimmy frowned at Alejandro, saying nothing. This guy was being overly cooperative, wasn't he?
Javier reached over to grab his holster from the bedside, "I was knocked unconscious by the site explosion, and when I was brought to the hospital, my sidearm was lost at the scene. When I went back later to look for it, it was already gone. I'll report it when I get back."
Javier pulled the gun out and tossed it to Jimmy. However, his balance was a bit off right now, the direction was roughly correct, but Jimmy had to reach out to catch it from the side.
Jimmy: "Javier, you should know the consequences of this. Keep it."
He tossed the gun back to Javier. Javier said, "Your gun is inconvenient to use, just use this one. There'll be a chance to swap it out when you get to the location."
Jimmy: "Not necessary. If I really need one, I can grab one from someone else at any time. Hold onto it, that's an order."
Seeing Jimmy refuse his gun, Javier put it back in its holster. Alejandro watched the exchange between Jimmy and Javier, then suddenly picked up his phone, typed on it for a moment, and tossed it to Jimmy, "Jimmy."
Jimmy caught the phone and glanced at it. It showed an address and two sets of numbers, "What's this?"
Alejandro: "Go there tomorrow morning. Memorize it and return my phone."
After noting the numbers, Jimmy handed the phone back to Alejandro. This guy had issues; he was definitely not just a DEA agent.
"You rest; I'll be in the room next door, where there are no patients."
Jimmy stood up and left their hospital room. Normally, there shouldn't be so many people in one room, but given the special circumstances, Jimmy requested it. Faced with such a strong client, the hospital didn't refuse and just agreed.
