Chapter 1280 699: Counter-Surveillance (Part 3)
Finally, with the cooperation of the technical staff, the FBI spent quite some time cross-referencing the store's inventory of phones and matching the serial numbers of unregistered phones sold recently. Next, it was up to the technical personnel to investigate, and it wasn't until evening that they were able to pinpoint Frank's unregistered phone number.
While the technical staff handled this part of the investigation, Morrison and his team were not idle. By matching vehicles, they successfully located the mini warehouse, but with so many warehouses, the staff couldn't determine which one Frank was using. So, Morrison divided the personnel, with one part continuing to investigate vehicle information, and two people stayed to verify information on the comings and goings of personnel and the warehouse details with the staff.
By evening, the technical team had located Frank's phone number and confirmed through cell tower positioning that he was still in Baltimore, just in the southeastern suburbs. Only then did Jimmy and Hope, who were waiting for news at the office, set off to join Morrison and his team.
With precise location information this time, Morrison no longer involved the police. Those patrol officers would likely be at a disadvantage against Frank, who is a crack shot, and it could easily lead to irreversible consequences. Besides, even his agents would likely face challenges, so he contacted his superiors to call in an SRT team, prepared to raid the house where Frank was living.
Jimmy and his team left the headquarters but were slightly late. After the SRT members were in place, Agent Morrison didn't wait for Jimmy's team and directly launched a raid on the two-story suburban house. Inside, a couple were watching TV when suddenly they were bewildered by a group of fully armed FBI agents bursting in.
However, Morrison and his team failed; besides the couple who owned the house, there was no one else inside.
Morrison questioned the couple and received information that ten minutes before they arrived, Frank had just left and had swapped his phone with the landlord's. So the FBI's positioning information wasn't wrong; it was indeed Frank's phone, but not him personally.
Upon rechecking the landlord's phone, they found Frank had already entered the city. Jimmy heard the result over the radio and immediately had Hope turn around to begin pursuing Frank, while Morrison and his team also promptly left the house to chase north.
This level of counter-surveillance awareness is truly the first Jimmy has encountered, comparable to when they were tracking that group of mercenaries. Frank is even more difficult to deal with because although there were many mercenaries, since they had to move entirely outdoors, Jimmy could catch up quickly once their position was confirmed, making the ensuing combat quite simple.
But as for Frank, in just one day, he switched at least three or four vehicles, used the warehouse as a reserve for supplies, and had a safe house in the suburbs. He even abandoned his newly purchased unregistered phone, a level of counter-surveillance far beyond that of an ordinary gang member.
Fortunately, Frank was unaware that the FBI had already raided his safe house and obtained the phone information he currently holds. Otherwise, he would certainly continue to dispose of the phone as he fled.
However, why did Frank return north from the south side of the city? Generally speaking, if he were trying to escape, he would choose to steer clear of Baltimore City. The police and FBI presence here is indeed very strong, and he must have his own reason to overcome such obstacles and choose to move north.
