Chapter 1260 690: Stubborn Nia (Part 2)
Chapter 1260 690: Stubborn Nia (Part 2)
Nia: "These few cases are very strange, perhaps there are paranormal cases there as well."
Jimmy: "Let's talk about this kind of thing when it's discovered. There haven't been any appearances for so many years. Even if there are Resentful Spirits there now, under what pretext are you going to investigate?"
Nia was about to speak when Jimmy waved her off, "And one more thing, do you have a compelling reason to reopen previous cases? You know that many people in your NYPD have experienced that period. Are you planning to pursue their past mistakes? Listen to me, don't touch these cases. It's not beneficial for you."
Nia was at a loss for words. Was there any sense to what Jimmy said? Obviously, yes. Nobody wants someone causing trouble for them afterward. If Nia's behavior of directly investigating past cases is discovered, it could easily lead to negative conjectures, like Kevin planning to go after some of the older officers in the department. After all, most people know that Nia is Kevin's daughter.
But her intention isn't to cause trouble for others; it's because she discovered another possible paranormal incident after getting involved in the supernatural event within their NYPD jurisdiction. It's for the safety of the citizens, to eliminate hidden dangers. Even if she's not praised, at least she should be somewhat understood.
Nia moved off the big sofa with a bad expression and sat on the nearby single seat sofa without touching the files and just watched TV.
Jimmy now found himself a bit troubled. He'd been enjoying speaking his mind, and now Nia was in a bad mood. So he quickly got up, squeezed next to Nia, and tried to comfort her. After some comforting words, he finally managed to lift her spirits a little. The cost, however, wasn't favorable. Jimmy realized he needed to find a way to go and check out what was really going on there.
Nia wasn't insistent on finding this paranormal case; it's just that she had spent several days identifying such an unusual case, only for it to be directly dismissed by Jimmy, making her feel uneasy. As long as Jimmy could confirm something, even if it's nothing, at least it would account for her busyness over these days.
Such things certainly couldn't be addressed during working hours, so on the weekend, Jimmy first went to the church, accompanied his godson Elliot for a prayer session there, and took the opportunity to inquire with Priest Rodney about whether there were any follow-up troubles concerning the Rhode Island incident.
The Rhode Island incident was the only recent paranormal case Jimmy was involved in from start to finish, including discovering clues and eventually purifying the entire lake surface. The only uncertainty was whether the Church had coordinated well with the authorities, whether Sergeant Porter had publicly spread the information. If these follow-ups were fine, he'd be relieved. Otherwise, he should prepare in advance, as FBI and police are not in the same system, and some matters need prior preparation and communication with higher-ups.
Priest Rodney assured Jimmy that they'd handle everything and wouldn't let this matter affect him. In addition, he specifically inquired about how Jimmy trained his marksmanship. This was a question Priest Rodney wanted to ask back then, but the timing and location weren't appropriate, so they directly returned from Rhode Island. Now that Jimmy had come over himself, it was a good time to ask.
Jimmy didn't say anything special, just mentioned physical strength and regular practice could achieve his condition. All his moves were normal, except for his ability to kill Ghosts.
Priest Rodney had no doubts about Jimmy's ability to kill Ghosts. Jimmy's body is a perfect Holy Light vessel, validated by Father White and others. Even if Jimmy couldn't be like those exorcist priests, he still retained a significant amount of energy, and having some special abilities was understandable.
Once Priest Rodney was no longer in doubt, Jimmy left with Elliot, dropped him home, and went alone to Queens to fulfill the promise he made to Nia.
For Jimmy, investigating was simple. Lighting a cigarette on the sidewalk and looking around was enough for him to scan the entire building, especially since he wasn't looking for people and didn't need to go inside for detailed observation. Even if he entered the room, it would still require the Heart Eye to see Ghosts and such.
After a few minutes of careful observation, he finished his cigarette, glanced around, extinguished the butt on the trash can, and approached the residential building.
This was an old building, five stories high. Jimmy initially thought it would be an apartment building, but he realized through observation that it was a single-family dwelling, with a corridor and stairs in the middle. The ground floor had a living room on the left and a kitchen and storeroom on the right. Upstairs, there were a large study and several rooms, along with a very large room with a long table in the middle, clearly designed as a banquet hall.
It was quite a mansion, looking inconspicuous from the outside, but with a lot of substance internally.
Jimmy had investigated the landlord beforehand, but it seemed negotiating with them wouldn't be easy. Anyone owning such a house wouldn't be a small figure.
Sure enough, after Jimmy rang the doorbell, a servant opened the door. After Jimmy revealed his identity, she went back to inquire and returned to refuse Jimmy's request to enter, simply closing the door as she left.
Jimmy had no choice in the matter; talking directly to the homeowner would solve some problems. This type of messages being passed by a middleman typically didn't work out. However, Jimmy didn't give up and inquired around. Recently, the area had remained relatively safe with no unusual deaths reported.
Returning home, he explained his findings to Nia. From his investigation, it seemed that there hadn't been any incidents in recent years, and no paranormal phenomena were detected, so they managed a precarious resolution of the minor crisis between them.
However, Jimmy once again reminded Nia not to investigate past cases anymore unless there were explicit instructions from higher-ups, as such actions can easily offend people. As for how much Nia would actually heed his advice, Jimmy couldn't guarantee.
Nia was, in fact, a bit stubborn, and sometimes she would completely disregard others' opinions. For example, after graduation, she applied to the police academy and joined the NYPD; Kevin still never figured out her motives back then. He could only guess she wanted to follow in her father's footsteps or had a peculiar fondness for the police profession.
Jimmy could now only do his best and leave the rest to fate. Since Nia's experience with the paranormal event, she seemed to have developed some obsessions, which wasn't a good sign.
These past days, Jimmy had been extremely diligent, previously planning to have kids. At this point, if Nia indeed got pregnant, perhaps she'd divert her attention elsewhere, which would be far better than her obsession with investigating paranormal cases.
While Jimmy was focusing on Nia, some trouble arose on the FBI's end.
The undercover plan previously laid out by Ruiz and his team had commenced. But since the plan's execution, they'd suddenly acquired some alarming information from unknown sources.
Someone was seeking leverage to force Seventeen into surrendering a portion of his business dealings. Shockingly, this included mentioning his operation's protection came from the FBI and DEA...
While the DEA's involvement was independent of the FBI, the person within the FBI being hinted at as a protector must be of high rank, even potentially beyond Ruiz's capacity to address.
Upon receiving this information, Seventeen secretly met with Ruiz multiple times, utilizing various methods yet still failing to uncover who the so-called backer was. If this issue remained unresolved, their undercover mission faced potential jeopardy, risking manipulation and ultimately, service to the crime syndicate.
It's crucial to realize they had reopened the previous submarine dock, organizing some covert activities through their authority. If specific individuals became privy to these activities, it might result in an undercover failure, potentially leading to agent termination or, at worst, coercion to use their pre-established channels for serious illegal operations, outcomes they certainly wanted to avoid.
