Chapter 1259 690: Stubborn Nia

Chapter 1259 690: Stubborn Nia

This sudden weekend outing made Jimmy quite frustrated, as he still had not achieved his main goal. There was no news of Roland at all. According to Father Rodney, the person they had seen was almost certainly Roland, but his coming and going so swiftly, without contacting Jimmy, made it completely impossible for him to continue the investigation.

He took some time to look up information on Jack Chambers, but strangely enough, while he found many people with the same name in the system, none of them matched the person he had met back then. It's either that Jack's identity was problematic, or he had changed his name, using his former name when he met Jimmy initially.

This lead was also cut off, making it impossible to find Roland through Jack.

Jimmy hadn't forgotten the letter Roland gave him with the Black Rainbow. Roland had already said he'd retire and live quietly in the Dark Tower World, so his sudden return had to be for a reason.

Not to mention what he could do for Roland, but Jimmy really hoped he could find Roland to teach him how to use the Black Rainbow. Now he possessed something valuable but couldn't utilize it effectively, only passively accepting the enhancements to his body and mind, which was clearly a waste.

Sometimes it wasn't that Jimmy didn't want to train, but the way his strength increased was too bizarre, and there was truly no one he could consult. The biggest leaps in his abilities occurred either during battles with the possessed Bennett or when multiple people in a church purified him; such situations were incredibly rare.

Who knows when news of Roland would arise again; it seemed it would be an indefinite wait to meet him once more.

Work, naturally, couldn't always be idled, so Jimmy, being bored, would accompany Mark and Julia to investigate cases. However, they were the main force, while Jimmy mainly organized tasks and followed up as their support.

The days passed by quietly without any major events on Jimmy's side, and life was quite comfortable for him. But it was a different story for Nia.

Having personally experienced a supernatural event and almost getting caught up in it, Nia was very concerned. Especially after hearing many things during Jimmy's conversations with Kevin—things someone at her level shouldn't have known—she became even more attentive to her surroundings, as she intended to continue living in New York.

After returning to the police station post-vacation, she took some time to sift through numerous old case files, focusing particularly on death and missing person cases, with special emphasis on cases involving multiple deaths.

In fact, New York isn't safe; with its large and diverse population concentrated in various districts, there's simply no means to statistically account for the number of major cases. Many gang disputes leave no death records—not because they don't kill, but because they usually clean up well. To the police, gunfire or fighting without bodies discovered only classifies the case as minor, not murder.

Nia had previously looked into this, but only because Jimmy had given her a glimpse of some supernatural cases. She did it casually back then, but having experienced it herself, her desire to investigate soared.

She soon found clues of possible supernatural activity in the files.

In a residential building in Queens, there had been three suicide cases over the past twenty to thirty years, all ruled as suicides. But someone had once organized these files, placing the three cases together. During her investigation, Nia found that all three victims had committed suicide in the same room, and their deaths occurred very close to one another, with the forensic reports indicating the times of death were around 1 a.m.

This was no ordinary coincidence. Yet the investigations of the three suicides were conducted by different officers, who all concluded, based on their scene assessments and the forensic reports confirming asphyxiation suicide, that each case was not problematic on its own.

Whoever had once organized these cases remains unknown. Clearly, someone had noticed the connection between these three cases but did not reopen the investigation. They only grouped the files together, possibly due to unforeseen circumstances or an inability to handle their discovery, leaving them for future discovery.

Nia made copies of the case files and put them in her bag, later bringing them to Jimmy in the evening. "Jimmy, take a look at these three cases."

Jimmy, initially slumped on the couch watching TV after dinner, was a little confused upon seeing the file copies Nia produced. He already delegated his own department's cases to his subordinates and didn't expect to deal with NYPD cases at home.

But he had no choice, really, as these were from his wife. Even if he didn't want to look, he couldn't refuse. Jimmy skimmed through them, asking, "These cases are from twenty or thirty years ago; the earliest one was over twenty years ago. What's the problem?"

Nia looked at Jimmy speechlessly; had he really not noticed? "These all took place in the same room of the same building, and they're all suicide cases."

Jimmy: "These cases are closed; there's no need to fuss over them. Why bother looking into closed cases?"
