Chapter 40

“Moruna's amazing!”

The Felyn Race standing at the cave entrance cheered in unison after seeing Moruna conjure a Water Cannon with her bare hands.

Moruna couldn't help but feel a swell of pride upon hearing the Felyn Race praising her.

But when she spotted even more bandits emerging from the cave, she quickly schooled her expression.

Especially upon seeing the burly figure in the middle—her mood grew heavy.

That guy's aura was clearly different from the other bandits. He looked like a tough one.

“We're here to protect Moruna!” Luoluo An shouted, waving his spear and twirling it with a flourish.

The other Felyn joined in, grabbing their own spears and forming a ring around Moruna. “Protect Moruna!”

The Felyn knew that right now, all Moruna needed to do was keep blasting Water Cannons at the cave mouth. Their job was to safeguard her.

As long as Moruna could keep up the barrage, these bandits wouldn't stand a chance.

Water gathered continuously in Moruna's hands, finally erupting into a torrent that blasted outward.

The bandits were sent flying backward by the rush of water. Just as they tried to scramble to their feet, they were slammed back down.

“Whoa! Is this magic? It's my first time seeing it!” Luoluo An exclaimed, watching Moruna's relentless assault in awe.

“Boss! This firepower's too intense!” While Luoluo An marveled, the bandits wailed in agony.

They couldn't even stand under the high-pressure Water Cannon, and after a while, breathing became a struggle.

“Boss?” Moruna murmured, her attention fixing on that standout figure.

If the bandits were calling him Boss, didn't that mean he was the Bandit Leader?

But according to Lord Luo En's plan, the Bandit Leader should still be inside the cave.

Moruna froze for a few seconds, gradually realizing something terrible. “The plan failed?”

“What plan failed?” Luoluo An looked up, puzzled.

He thought things were going great—the bandits were getting beaten black and blue.

“The Bandit Leader didn't stay back; he came straight to the front lines,” Moruna said with a straight face. “That Scarface is the Bandit Leader.”

“Wah! Our plan failed!” Luoluo An panicked immediately. “What do we do now?”

Lord Luo En had already sneaked into the cave with the others, leaving no one to direct them.

“It's fine,” Moruna said calmly. “I'm still here.”

With Lord Luo En gone, she'd take charge of the Felyn.

“Yeah, Moruna's still with us—we've got nothing to fear!” Luoluo An's courage surged back in an instant.

The Bandit Leader holding the cave entrance raised an eyebrow upon seeing Moruna conjure another Water Cannon bare-handed. “A mage?”

Normally, anyone who could use magic had to be a mage.

What struck him as odd, though, was that no magic circle appeared in Moruna's hands while she formed the Water Cannon.

Magic circles were standard for mages—they always showed up when casting.

But after Moruna hit him with another instant Water Cannon, he sensed something was off.

He crossed his arms in front of him and barely managed to hold his ground, avoiding being knocked flat.

At last, the Bandit Leader pinpointed the source of that unease—this wasn't a mage; it was a witch.

A human who could wield such miraculous powers with just a thought, without drawing on the moon's energy, could only be a witch.

Though the water couldn't really hurt him—just make him uncomfortable at worst—it was utterly humiliating.

Facing Moruna, he felt like all his strength was going to waste.

“No wonder these Felyn suddenly got bold enough to take us on—they've hooked up with a witch,” the Bandit Leader thought, everything clicking into place.

But for the Felyn to ally with a witch? They really had gone mad.

Didn't they know witches could go berserk at any moment, turning into the legendary Black Slime and destroying everything around them?

Witches had vicious personalities, too—impossible to get along with anyone.

They might smile at you one day, then the next, steal everything you have and curse you with the world's most terrifying malediction.

“Looks like the plan failing isn't so bad after all!” Luoluo An shouted, noticing the Bandit Leader couldn't even get close.

The Felyn saw that the Bandit Leader was helpless against Moruna, too, and chorused, “Whoa! Moruna's so awesome!”

“No, the plan hasn't failed.” Moruna adjusted her hat and said coolly.

All the praise from the Felyn had lifted her spirits quite a bit.

Compared to dealing with humans, she was enjoying her time with these Felyn much more.

“I'll make sure Lord Luo En's plan succeeds,” Moruna declared with full confidence.

As long as this band of bandits was wiped out, the plan wouldn't count as a failure.

A small water orb coalesced between her fingers, but this one was different—it was boiling.

The Bandit Leader knew he couldn't let Moruna keep unleashing Water Cannons unchecked. He pushed through the pressure and charged at the Felyn's spear formation.

“Get out of my way!” he bellowed, sweeping aside the Felyn in front of Moruna and sending them flying.

His skin suddenly turned red-hot like molten iron, making the wooden spears unable to pierce him.

“Whoa!” The Felyn whose weapons proved useless toppled over like bowling pins.

But the Bandit Leader was scratched by those spears in the end, and then struck by Moruna's boiling Water Cannon.

“You think this is over just like that?” he snarled, his skin scalded and his anger boiling over.

“Of course not.” Moruna's face remained expressionless.

Since people described witches as so terrifying, she'd show them power to match.

“Don't forget about me!” Luoluo An hoisted his spear—which was several heads taller than him—and yelled. “I'll protect Moruna!”

...

......

"Our plan's going great," Luo En said confidently to the Felyn folk trailing behind him in the cave.

"Mr. Luo En, you're incredible!" They caught his confidence like a spark, chiming in one after another.

They had no idea where his assurance came from, but somehow, it put their minds at ease.

After slipping into the cave, they'd quietly dispatched a few of the bandits.

It made Luo En think the bandit gang was no big deal—as long as they stuck together, they'd be fine.

He was so full of himself now that he figured wiping out every bandit crew in the basin wouldn't be any trouble at all.

Right when Luo En's ego hit its peak, a strange cry for help echoed through the air.

"Oh, sir—and you cute little guys too—please, save me!"
