New World with Four Husbands

Chapter 689: Bitter truth

Chapter 689: Bitter truth

"I didn’t kill them." Cleora stated bluntly, her gaze hardening as she glanced at her daughter.

"You did." Coco mumbled, eyebrows furrowing.

"I didn’t." Cleora insisted, feeling a little agitated at her daughter’s blunt words and got more upset at the fact that she’s accusing her own mother of killing her two sisters.

Isn’t it different? Cleora thought, her heart clenching at the sight of Coco’s face.

"You did, mama." Coco retorted, just as hardheaded as her mother and refusing to back down at all.

"How is that me killing them?" Cleora asked, a frown settling in her face. "I merely asked for the mother tree to bring the four of us in the same world. Is that bad?"

"No, not really." Coco answered honestly, then she huffed. "But you specifically told me that you asked the mother tree to kill the two of them."

"Which is precisely why I didn’t kill them." Cleora hissed, taking a step forward and shooting an upset glare at her daughter. "I only wanted the four of us to be together."

"But you still killed them." Coco insisted, returning the glare of her mother. "You didn’t do it, but you wished for it."

Cleora glared, only to stop when her daughter’s words sank into her brain.

"You wanted the four of us to be together, so you asked the tree to kill Carina and Corinne." Coco continued, her hands clenching into fists. "That’s selfish of you, but I understand.. Still, my point stands, mama. You’re the one who killed them."

Cleora doesn’t know what to say because she didn’t see it that way.

She believed that she was doing the best for her daughters by asking the mother tree to kill the two of them.. She believed that being together would make them stronger.

Did I make the wrong choice..? Cleora thought, heart squeezing inside her chest.

"Do they know you killed them, mama?" Coco asked for the second time, seeking to know the answer, and Cleora could only shake her head to do so.

"T-They don’t.." Cleora mumbled, her gaze drifting down to the floor. "I.. I don’t know. Maybe they do and I just probably didn’t know."

Cleora stared at the floor, finding its shine interesting all of a sudden.

Coco was in the same state, only for her to be staring at her mother’s face with a look of slight disdain.

She was incredibly thankful for her mother for doing a lot when trouble came her way, but after finding out what she did to Carina and Corinne.. And then probably not knowing what happened to them..

It made Coco’s stomach churn.

"I love you, mama." Coco stated, lips pursing as she looked away.

Cleora perked up, eyes twinkling with hope and relief, but that twinkle vanished when she saw the look on Coco’s face.

"But I don’t know if I can accept all these after knowing what you did." Coco murmured, breaking Cleora’s heart into pieces. "I’m thankful for you wanting for all of us to be together, but ripping away Carina’s and Corinne’s bright future makes me mad."

Her words may be hypocritical of her, but at least she didn’t want them to die just so they can be transmigrated into this world.

Her mother’s greed sicken her and she doesn’t know how to deal with it.

Coco sucked in a sharp breath. "I love you and my sisters so much that the first couple of weeks were hard to brush off. I did my best to keep myself busy just to stop myself from thinking of the three of you.."

The memories of Coco pushing herself hard enough that Jacques and others started to get worried for her resurfaced in her mind.

All those days and nights, all those hard work and patience, all those sadness and pain.. All of it— all of it suddenly became meaningless because of what’s happening.

"Then I came to terms that this is my new life now." Coco laughed, the sound coming off as bitter. "A new world with four husbands.. Four husbands that didn’t want me and treated me like trash, but I brushed it all off because I understood where they were coming from."

She looked up, eyes wide and blurry with tears. "Then, I came to terms that I only have Lala in this new world. I came to terms with the fairy who killed me, mama."

Cleora’s eyes went wide in shock and her lips parted. Lala? She.. She killed Coco?

"I came to terms with all these after months of brushing everything off." Coco chuckled, bringing a hand up to her hair to card them through her dark strands. "I tried to push everything away, to make sure that I’m okay, to assure myself that everything will be just fine."

All of a sudden, Coco tugged her hair and the action caught Cleora off guard.

The older woman gasped audibly and took a step forward, but she flinched and reeled back when Coco whipped her head to look at her.

"Do you know how painful it was to deal with everyone? Trying to run here and there, just for me to fit right in!" Coco asked, a crazed look in her eyes.

"Do you know how many times I tried to convince myself that I will be fine without you and my sisters?" Coco murmured, her shoulders sagging as she simply stared at Cleora. "I finally accepted the fact that I will be alone.. That I have to live."

Coco forced out a laugh. "Then, I had to follow these goddamn fairies’ quests."

She raised her hands to her face, her palms resting right on her closed eyes. "I had to be a lap dog and finish every quest they gave me because what..? I’ll get hurt if I don’t? The humanity will be doomed because of some monster evolving? As if I care."

Coco let out a chuckle, soft and quiet. "Then, I realized I fell in love."
