New World with Four Husbands

Chapter 688: Shocking truth

Chapter 688: Shocking truth

"K.. Kill?" Coco stammered out, eyes widening in horror. "Who? Carina? Corinne..?"

Cleora looked solemn, but for some reason, she didn’t look guilty. "Yes, I asked that from the mother tree in hopes of finding you while keeping them close to me."

Coco doesn’t know what to say and all she could do is stare.

"Apparently, the four dimensions that the fairies rule over are similar to earth." Cleora added, her eyes shifting back to meet Coco’s wide ones. "And in those dimensions, there’s a version of you, of me, of Carina, of Corinne— each of us has a version of us in those worlds."

"You mea—"

"Yes, I mean it." Cleora stated and cut her daughter off with a nod. "It just so happened that I’m a Duchess in this world and that you are a noble’s daughter."

"Then what about Carina..?" Coco murmured, frowning deeply.

She doesn’t know how to feel about what her mother did to her sisters, for asking the mother tree or whatever it is to kill them, just so they can be together, but it doesn’t change the fact that she wants to know about Carina’s whereabouts, too.

"I asked about Carina’s whereabouts, so I can’t ask for Corinne’s." Cleora looked away from Coco once more. "Carina.. She.. Uh.."

Coco stepped closer to her mother. "She’s what, mama? Is she okay?"

"She’s okay." Cleora quickly assured Coco, a look of astonishment crossing her features at how worried and disappointed Coco looked. "But before that, what do you know about this world’s kingdoms?"

Coco blinked and she gave her mother some space. "Nothing.. I didn’t think that I would need to worry about them."

"Yeah, well, Carina is our kingdom’s only princess." Cleora deadpanned, sighing heavily. "And why haven’t you asked your husbands about this? You could have—"

"Wait, wait, wait, wait." Coco hissed softly, cutting her mother off with wide eyes. "What do you mean she’s the princess?"

"She is the princess." Cleora repeated, leaning against the railing behind her. "Since I didn’t ask what’s happening to her, I got told where she was instead."

"And since you asked for an update on Corinne, you can’t know where she is?" Coco concluded, finally getting what her mother has been trying to say. "Does this mean you also asked for an update on me? Is that why you couldn’t find me?"

"Yes." Cleora answered, looking relieved. "I was in a state of shock and asked for the updates about you and your little sister."

"Why didn’t you ask for Carina’s, too?"

"It’s not like I didn’t.." Cleora grumbled, scratching her cheek with a sheepish look on her face. "More like I accidentally used the first two chances on you and Corinne, asking about what happened about you two."

She let out a sigh, her eyes fluttering close. "Then, when I finally got to worry about Carina, which is just a minute after, I received a scroll from Mimi that said I can only use the update and tracker options once on each daughter of mine.. And unfortunately, I accidentally used the update option on you and Corinne."

Cleora frowned and covered her face, feeling ashamed of herself. "When I tried to use the tracker instead, I realized that I can only choose one feature for each of you three."

They are stingy.

Coco couldn’t help, but thought, a grimace settling on her face.

"What’s more is that the limit of the options is only two, so when I used it on you and Corinne, I wasn’t able to use it on Carina anymore." The older woman grumbled, rubbing her face with her palms.

"I see." Coco sighed softly, raising a hand to press on her temples. "I still can’t get around the fact that Carina is the princess.."

Cleora brightened a little, noticing that Coco doesn’t look that disappointed in her anymore.

"What about Corinne? How do you get an update about her?" Coco asked, pushing her earlier astonishment aside for now. "Do you get it in detail or something?"

"No, not really." Cleora stated, shaking her head. "I get one update a week and from the looks of it, it’s a summarization of what happened throughout the week. It’s how I managed to find you. Your last update was that you were hunting an octoleon."

"Octo.. A what?" Coco blinked, unsure what she was hearing.

"It’s an unregistered type of monster." Cleora hummed, her eyes shifting to the side as she held out her hand and suddenly, something materialized in her open palm. "They blend in with humans and take after our appearances. The last human they kill will be consumed and they will take the appearance of that human."

Coco’s eyes went wide at the sight of a human head on her mother’s palm.

"This one was the first one I killed and realized that it was an unregistered monster." Cleora stated, a look of delight crossing her features. "They try to blend in, so their spawn stones are near cities and villages."

"That.. That looked like the same one I killed last time.." Coco breathed out, staring at the head with a frightened look. "It looks eerily similar to humans."

"That is because they take the skin of the human they last consumed." Cleora shrugged, waved her hand which made the head disappear.

"Ah.. A-Anyway, how did you know Carina was the princess?" Coco asked, stuttering on her words as she tried to change the subject. "It’s a simple tracker, right..?"

"Not really." Cleora denied, shaking her head. "It’s a tracker, yes, but it also tells me her role— which is, word for word, princess of a kingdom."

"Which happens to be our kingdom." Coco murmured, eyes trailing down to the floor.

Who knew that her mother and sisters have gone through a lot of ordeal? But still, she couldn’t shake off the disappointment she felt about the fact that her mother asked her sisters to be killed.

"Do they know that you killed them?"
