New World with Four Husbands

Chapter 684: New house

Chapter 684: New house

After the introduction between Coco and others to the craftsmen, all of them mounted the carriage once again and set off to their next destination.

The carriage journey was a little bumpy as the vehicle moved through the city this time and Coco had to hold onto her seat to maintain her balance, so she would accidentally crash one of her husbands.

As the ride progressed, she couldn’t help, but notice that the route they were taking seemed to be leading them back to the castle— a fact that puzzled her.

Are they going back to the castle?

Her thoughts were momentarily interrupted as the vehicle shook slightly, a jolt of the carriage stirring her attention back to her surroundings, and her focus shifted to the passing scenery of the city just outside the window.

Yep, this is the way back to the castle. She thought, her shoulders sagging.

She was expecting that they will be making their way to the new house after the meet up, but it seemed like she’s wrong—

Coco blinked, a puzzled furrow creasing her brow when a familiar sight of the modern-looking structures came into her line of vision, causing her thoughts to flow out of the window.

She was certain they had been headed back to the castle, but now here they were, confronted with the same building from the night before— modern and sleek against the soft morning light, its clean lines and glass panels stood in quiet contrast to the ancient stone of Cleora’s castle just beyond the trees.

Coco leaned forward, pressing slightly closer to the window, her heart giving a quiet leap.

A small smile tugged at her lips and wonder flickered in her emerald eyes as the carriage rolled to a gentle stop right before its gates.

After a minute, the carriage door swung open with a soft creak and there stood the same footman from earlier, bowing slightly as he held it wide, silently telling Coco and others that they could exit the vehicle.

Zaque shifted in his seat, but before he could get off the carriage, Alhai stepped out first, his boots meeting the cobblestone surface.

He turned back immediately, reaching inside without hesitation and offering Coco his hand.

Sunlight caught the edge of his profile— serious and focused, as he waited for his lovely wife to accept his silent offer of assistance.

Coco hesitated only a second before placing her hand in his and while Alhai helped her down from the carriage, his fingers tightened gently around hers.

With a soft huff, with her eyes glued on the house before them, the fingers that were grasping Alhai’s hand became a little tighter.

Then, in a gesture that surprised him and made the other husbands scoff in envy, she lifted his hand towards her lips and gently brushed a kiss over his knuckles.

The unexpected intimacy of the action made Alhai flush, his cheeks coloring in the cold air.

He swallowed hard, his heart rate suddenly kicking up a notch, but the moment was quick and it was over in an instant.

However, the memory of her lips touching his fingers lingered on his mind and the fact that she didn’t seem fazed with what she just did made him even more shy than he already is.

He couldn’t tear his gaze away from her face, his heart kept on stuttering.

The mediator’s voice was unusually low, soft, and it was barely a whisper when he finally spoke. "W.. Why did you—"

Unfortunately, Coco didn’t answer.

She simply turned, fingers still curled around Alhai’s, then gave his hand a firm tug, and started walking.

Alhai stumbled forward slightly, caught off guard by her sudden pull, but quickly fell into step behind her as she dragged him through the iron gates, the path to the front doors was lined with cobblestone and low hedges catching his attention almost immediately.

He didn’t notice it last night, but their new house seemed to be inspired from Coco’s and Cleora’s old world, isn’t it?

Behind them, the others began to follow.

Jacques was watching her friend being casually lovely towards her husband with a small smile and couldn’t help, but snort when Alhai became almost as red as a tomato.

Beside her, Coco’s other mediators were shooting displeased stares at Alhai’s back, but Coco barely noticed any of it because her focus was ahead, right on the sleek front doors of their new home.

Up ahead, Cleora moved with her heels clicking against the cobblestoned path, not once looking back because she knew they would follow.

Bob and Marie, on the other hand, couldn’t stop staring, their gazes fixed on the house, and their eyes widened with shock and wonder.

Neither of the two craftsmen had seen anything like it— its clean lines, the elegance, the expansive glass panels.

Who was the mind behind such brilliance? Was it the work of a brilliant genius?

The design was bold, daring— almost alien compared to the stone towers and thatched roofs of the houses in Ersthan.

"Who.." Bob began, voice hushed. "Could possibly design this?"

Marie didn’t answer, not that she could.

She just stared, one hand rising slightly to cover her mouth. Was it built with the help of magic stones? A foreign architect? An unknown and unnamed individual?

The two were so shocked that they stopped walking.

But a snap of heels against stone jolted them from their daze— Bob and Marie blinked in unison as they watched the husbands of their employers stride past, already following Cleora and the others toward the front doors.

"Wait—!" Bob exclaimed, hurrying.

Marie didn’t even pause and immediately started moving, skirt brushing against cobblestones as they both hurried to catch up, shoulders squared and tools mentally readied.

They were craftsmen of unmatched skill, but today.. Today, they were stepping into something new and if this house was any sign that the people they will be working under were sent from the heavens above..

Then, they have to be better than ever.
