Chapter 425: Rey’s question
Chapter 425: Rey’s question
Coco had stayed at Jacques’ house for a while longer before she decided that her friend’s words were too impossible to be true.
She excused herself from Jacques and waved goodbye to the woman as she went home.
However, the situation at home wasn’t pleasing.
"Coco! Welcome back!" Zaque greeted her as soon as she walked through the front door, his face bright with a smile.
Beside him, Quizen seemed like he was about to walk towards the kitchen and only stopped when Zaque spoke up— the first husband’s greeting caught the attention of others which caused another head to peek out of the kitchen.
"I’m back." Coco forced out, smiling.
She had just finished dwelling about the reason behind Alhai’s unexpected action, but now, she has to dwell on what Jacques said to her.
Coco is starting to catch feelings? To whom? To the mediators?
Coco couldn’t help, but scoffed— immediately pushing the memory to the back of her head and proceeded to walk to Zaque.
"Whatever Heiren’s cooking.." Coco started and flashed him a smile. "It smells incredibly delicious."
"Yeah! He said that it’s a recipe that you gave him." The one who popped his head out of the kitchen, Rey, stated with a grin. "It has a flying pig’s belly and a couple of tough crocodile parts on it mixed with soy sauce."
"Oh?" Coco brightened up. "Is it adobo?"
As soon as she finished the question, she rushed inside the kitchen and squeezed herself between Rey and the doorframe, wriggling her body as she did so.
"I’m back!" Coco announced her presence as she walked briskly towards Heiren. "Is that adobo?"
The brown haired mediator whirled himself around, a bowl full of the dark colored dish settled in his hands, and raised his eyebrows at Coco. "You’re quite late tonight, wife, but I’m glad you’re here. Just in time for dinner."
Coco nodded her head, her eyes already fixed on the bowl.
"Sorry, I stopped by Jacques’ house.. I talked to her about something and didn’t notice the time." Coco answered, not saying the entire thing that went down in her friend’s house. "Anyway, that looks delicious! I’m hungry!"
Heiren stared at Coco for a moment.
For the past couple of days, Coco had started acting weird— first, she asked a question about their types, then proceeded to avoid them even though it was just Alhai who did something to her.
The mediator sighed and nudged his head towards the table. "Take a seat. We will be eating first."
Coco did as she was told and rushed to the table.
"Kai won’t be back for another hour!" Rey informed everyone as he took a seat beside Coco, "His work doesn’t allow him to leave early, but I’m sure he’ll be here before midnight."
"Perfect." Zaque hummed and took a seat on another side of Coco, making Quizen slap him on the back.
"That’s my spot." Quizen said, glaring.
"No." Zaque merely denied the fourth husband’s words and turned to Rey. "Anyway, Alhai won’t be back for another hour as well. They can eat together if they get back at the same time."
"That’s such a relief." Rey laughed, leaning close to Coco’s side. "I thought he had to eat alone— ack."
Quizen saw the discreet move closer to Coco and was quick to grab the youngest mediator by the shoulder, yanking him back, but not strong enough to take him off his seat.
"Hey!" Rey whined and pulled his shoulder off Quizen’s hold. "What gives?"
"You’re too close." Quizen stated bluntly.
"Don’t fight before the meal!" Heiren chastised the two mediators, practically hissing the words out and glaring at the two. "Coco needs to eat so shove it down before I do it myself, you hear?"
Quizen and Rey flinched.
"Let them!" Coco exclaimed, laughing. "Anyway, can we please eat now?"
"Of course, wife." The second husband said, his eyes softening as they landed on Coco’s eager face. "I’m sure that you’re famished. Why don’t you dig in first, hm?"
Heiren scooped some rice on Coco’s plate and poured enough broth on it, making sure that the rice was covered.
He had learned that Coco is quite more obsessed with rice rather than pasta or any food that he had served her due to how her hands would immediately reach out towards the cooked white grains.
He had learned about this information when Coco invited them to eat in the Red Horse Inn and since then, he had stuck it into his mind.
Soon, the dinner started which caused others to start digging into their meals.
Before Heiren knew it, Coco had excused herself from the table like usual and placed her plate down on the sink, then left the kitchen to freshen herself up.
The only ones who were left inside the kitchen were Rey, Heiren, and Zaque.
Rey was helping by wiping the dining table clean while Zaque was washing the dishes with Heiren drying the newly washed plates before putting them on the cabinet where plates are stored away.
It was silent at first, but Rey decided to speak up to break the silence.
He started with a question that startled the other two mediators inside the room with him.
"Are you four open to the discussion of adding a fifth husband for Coco?" The young mediator asked and almost immediately, the gazes of the two husbands bore behind his head.
"I could tell that Coco treats all of you more as a friend rather than a spouse.. So, I’m curious." Rey hummed, smiling to himself.
"What is it to you?" Zaque inquired, narrowing his gaze.
"Kairo is interested in Coco." The young master stated quite frankly. "But from what I know, Coco rejected him because she was worried about the four of you.. And Coco was more than qualified to have five mediators."
Heiren’s grip tightened on the plate he was holding, his heart dropping on his stomach and felt like he couldn’t breathe.
Zaque glared. "That’s none of your business."
