New World with Four Husbands

Chapter 421: Unexpected visitors

Chapter 421: Unexpected visitors

Three days had passed since the reconciliation, and Coco could now bask in the comfort and ease of their friendship once again.

The carriage ride back to the house was a comfortable one, her body nestled comfortably into the soft plush of the upholstered seat.

The rhythmic motion of the horses’ trot lulled Coco into a sense of contentment, her eyes taking in the passing scenery as the carriage moved steadily forward— this seems to be her routine now.

Her thoughts wandered, a mix of gratitude and hopefulness filling her heart, a big contrast to the uncertainty she had experienced before.

Once she arrived at the house, Coco bid farewell to the coachman, expressing her gratitude for the safe journey, before exiting from the carriage.

She watched as the coachman guided the horses away first, the vehicle disappearing in the distance, and then turned towards the house.

With a sigh, Coco approached the front door, her hand reaching for the handle and opened the front door.

She was immediately greeted by the sound of unfamiliar voices coming from the direction of the kitchen— the house, which usually is quiet, was bustling with unusual energy.

Coco paused for a moment, her eyes growing wide as she realized that something was amiss.

The usual silence that filled the house had been replaced by animated chatter and the smells wafting from the kitchen hinted at an unexpected gathering.

As Coco quietly closed the door behind her, she stepped forward, her curiosity piqued.

She rounded the corner and entered the kitchen, her eyes blinking at the sight that lay before her because there, amongst the familiar faces of her husbands, gathered unexpected familiar faces.

The kitchen was filled with a lively commotion, hushed conversations and soft laughter blending together in a symphony of cheer.

The husbands are each engaged in small chats with others.

Heiren was the first to spot Coco as she entered and immediately set his mug down, then exclaimed. "Wife! Welcome back! Just in time! Let’s eat dinner!"

The rest of the husbands, too, took notice of Coco’s arrival, their faces lighting up with a mix of eagerness and delight.

They all stopped their conversations and turned their attention towards her, smiles tugging at the corners of their mouths.

Coco’s gaze shifted towards Rey, a hint of surprise in her eyes because the young teen who had only been a child for her eyes just a couple of weeks ago had undergone a transformation.

His once childlike features were now replaced with a more mature look, signs of early puberty evident in his slightly more angular face and broader shoulders.

She took in the sight of him, the unexpected change catching her off guard, and raised her eyebrow in silent inquiry.

Rey, noticing Coco’s gaze, grinned at her, his boyish charm evident in his bright smile.

"Hey, Coco! It’s been a while!" He exclaimed, his tone filled with eagerness and genuine delight.

His childish features had matured partnered with how his voice had deepened just enough to sound slightly more masculine.

Despite the changes, the familiar gleam in his eyes and the warmth of his greeting remained unchanged.

Zaque shot a protective frown at Rey, his hand gently pushing the younger boy’s head aside before he turned his smile towards Coco.

"Welcome back, wife." He greeted her gently. "Jacques and Renaldo asked if we could let Rey and Rogue stay with us."

The mention of their friends’ request caught Coco a little off guard, but she quickly regained her composure, a hint of curiosity in her eyes as she nodded.

"Oh?" She replied. "For how long—"

Coco was just about to continue asking Zaque when another voice spoke up behind her.

"Until the Young Master’s title is secured in the city square."

She turned, looking over her shoulder, and spotted a tall man with a sharp, calculating gaze.

"Really?" Coco retreated a step, her smile widening as she took in the sight of Rogue before her, his purple eyes softening and his black hair moved gracefully as he nodded his head at her.

"It is." Rogue confirmed, his voice dripping with confidence and assurance.

Quizen approached Coco, his hand reaching out to gently take hers— his touch was slightly startling yet comforting, drawing her focus towards him.

"Come on." The mediator said softly. "Let’s eat. I can tell you’re exhausted after work."

His words were spoken with a gentle coaxing, a silent invitation to forget about the newcomers and the unexpected news for the moment.

The room fell silent as they all observed the interaction between Coco and Quizen, their gazes flickering with different emotions.

Quizen shot Rogue a quick, subtle glare, his arm discreetly wrapping around Coco’s back.

He made sure to keep his face turned away from her line of sight, shielding her from seeing his expression because he knew that if Coco saw him, his image would be tarnished.

The others noticed the tension right away and recognized the protectiveness in Quizen’s gesture, understanding his unspoken message— Coco is their wife, someone who is not available to be taken.

Rogue’s face darkened as he watched Quizen’s protective gesture, a frown deepening on his face.

His thoughts likely turned to the memory of his conversation with Coco when they last met, where she had told him that she won’t marry him.

The knowledge that he posed a potential threat to their marriage must have weighed heavily on Quizen’s mind, but he held his tongue, not wanting to be caught in crossfire at the moment.

Coco settled comfortably into the seat beside Heiren, completely oblivious to the tension and the silent exchange between Quizen and Rogue.

The atmosphere in the room is thick with unspoken words and loaded glances, but Coco remained blissfully unaware of it all, enjoying the comfort and familiarity of the food on the dining table.

Heiren, sensing her relaxed state, shot a subtle smile her way, his eyes filled with warmth.

"Alright, everyone." Coco spoke up. "Let’s eat for now!"
