Chapter 388: An invitation
Chapter 388: An invitation
"I literally just had breakfast and lunch an hour ago, Sin." Coco said, an exasperated sigh escaping her lips.
"But you passed! With incredible points for your team! It’s worth celebrating and you don’t even have to worry about spending money, master!" The hybrid insisted, bouncing on his feet as he leaned closer to Coco.
Quizen wrapped an arm around Coco’s neck and put her in a light headlock before he pulled her away from Sinclair.
"You’re too close, mister bird." The mediator grunted out, narrowing his eyes into a lighthearted glare which made Alithe step in front of Sinclair, his own glare clashing with Quizen’s.
"Watch where those eyes are glaring at, husband four." Alithe sneered, but there was a playful glint in his eyes.
Quizen merely rolled his eyes, but there was a smile playing on his lips before he finally decided to let go of Coco. "Tell your husband to not get too close to my wife, mister bird number two."
Alithe’s glare vanished from his face as he slowly shook his head. "What kind of nickname is that? That sounds so awful, but in a ridiculous way."
Quizen rolled his eyes once again, pulling his arm away from Coco and stepping away from her.
Heiren and Alhai, who were standing by the staircase with a tray on their hands stopped in their tracks after hearing the exchange between the Quizen and Alithe, shared a glance at each other, not sure what they missed.
How come Quizen and Coco’s friends are friendly with each other? Since when did they become friends?
"Hello, Sinclair, Alithe." Heiren greeted the two with a curt nod, gesturing his hand towards the living room. "Come inside and take a seat, I’ve prepared some pastries that me and Zaque made earlier."
Sinclair smiled softly and nodded his head. "If you don’t mind having us."
"Oh, but we do mind. Very much." Quizen interjected, but was quickly silenced by Heiren’s pointed stare— a look that says if he doesn’t shut up now, he would regret it later once the guests are gone.
Quizen averted his gaze as nervous sweat started forming at his back because the look he received from the second husband always scares him for some reason.
"I was just joking." Quizen laughed nervously, stepping away from Heiren and moving on the other side of Coco instead. "Relax.. Me and the two of them are best friends. Right, Alithe, Sinclair?"
Alithe and Sinclair shared a glance for a good second, then their gaze moved to Coco before settling on Quizen.
"Coco’s friend is a friend of ours." Sinclair stated, a teasing smile emerging in his lips which was accompanied by a knowing look in his eyes.
Since Coco is a different person from their actual wife— doesn’t that mean that she’s not actually married to them?
Unfortunately, it wasn’t Quizen who got hit by his words.
Zaque, who was in the middle of descending the staircase, perked up and flinched quite hard when he heard what Sinclair had said.
Alhai’s grip tightened on the tray, his eyebrows pinching together in irritation at how the hybrid said the words because who is he to tell them that they are just Coco’s friend?
Quizen choked on his own spit, his saliva went down the wrong tube and sent him into a coughing fit.
Heiren merely smiled, the corner of his lips twitching— obviously forced and straining to stay in his face to not send his wife’s guests away.
One question lingered in their heads.
Just what does Sinclair know for him to say those words right in front of their faces?
Oh, another question popped up, but this time, it was pointed at their dearest wife who was blinking and staring owlishly at Sinclair; how much did she tell Sinclair?
Coco sensed that something was wrong and she felt the need to lighten the mood so in hopes of changing the topic, as well as making them happy— she ended up sacrificing her beautiful rest day.
"About your offer of congratulations on a successful examination!" Coco spoke up, her voice going a pitch higher in urgency. "How about I accept it?"
Sinclair’s face immediately brightened up at the words he heard and nodded his head fervently.
"Sure, master! In fact, since you accepted it— why don’t we also go shopping for the materials you will need for your future endeavors?" The hybrid offered with an unnerving large pleased smile.
"No, thank you." Coco refused in an instant, not liking the idea of letting Sinclair sponsor her.
He had already done a lot of things to help her and all because of what? Because she saved him? She didn’t even want to save him! She only did it because the quest forced her to!
The guilt was already eating at her conscience by that mere fact so accepting more from the hybrid would only make it worse.
Sinclair’s bright smile dropped upon hearing Coco’s polite refusal, but he was quick to bounce back by nodding his head and shooting her an understanding look— if she doesn’t want to, then he won’t force it on her.
"Just a meal to celebrate then?" Sinclair asked to confirm what she wanted.
"Yes." Coco answered with a small smile. "Only if you don’t mind, of course. I’m already causing you enough trouble, I don’t want to add more—"
"You’re not causing anyone any trouble." Alithe cut Coco off with a scoff.
"Watch your tone, my dear." Sinclair turned his attention to his husband and narrowed his eyes, then he turned back to Coco. "But he’s right, master. You’re not a bother to anyone."
"Exactly." Alithe grunted out and grabbed Sinclair’s hand. "Anyway, we will be leaving first to book a reservation. As usual, the carriage will arrive to take the five of you— ehem, sorry, the six of you to the location."
"Lovely!" Coco laughed, feeling grateful.
"We’ll see you there in an hour." Alithe said, dragging his husband out of the house.
"See you!"
