Chapter 380: Rewards
Chapter 380: Rewards
"With Coco’s team taking down fifty three monsters, they took the top spot on the overall ranking of the team for the third examination." Mr. Covez stated, taking a seat behind his desk.
"That’s understandable." Myra said, slipping on the farthest left spot on the couch.
"I would be surprised if they didn’t take first place." Julian mumbled, making others nod their heads in agreement. "They killed so many monsters that it was actually surprising that our instructor managed to count it."
"Right? Sir Greinzer is amazing!" Zuyo agreed with so much enthusiasm that he was bouncing on his feet.
"Tell me about it." Coco mumbled, silently agreeing to Zuyo’s statement. "Who would have thought that he was still counting the monsters while we were fighting earlier?"
Coco let out a sigh and settled herself beside Myra, then she asked. "Which team is in the top three?"
"First place for Ms. Coco’s team, second for Ms. Myra’s team, and third place for Ms. Elahixia’s team." The guild master answered Coco’s question, a proud smile emerging in his lips.
"Fifty three monsters, twenty four monsters, and ten monsters." He added to his previous sentence, the numbers pertaining to the monsters they killed.
"We killed twenty four monsters?" Julian blinked, not expecting the numbers.
"That’s a lot, actually!" Zuyo exclaimed, a triumphant smile on his lips, accompanied by a pleased laugh. "That’s awesome! We did good, everyone!"
"Fifty three monsters though?" Myra voiced her surprise, eyes wide as she looked at Coco.
"Why would you be surprised?" Julian asked his leader, sighing weakly under his breath. "You saw it yourself how easy Coco and Lukas took down those monsters all by themselves."
"No, I wasn’t surprised with that— I’m actually expecting more!" Myra stammered out, immediately cleared the misunderstanding.
"More?" Coco squeaked as she let out a yelp, eyes wide. "We’re not that
strong, you know!"
They watched Coco grow pale while staring back at Myra, not sure how they should say what they have in mind without making her grow more anxious.
"But you’re strong strong." Zuyo insisted, chuckling.
Mr. Covez didn’t agree verbally, but he laughed along with Zuyo, nodding his head.
"Anyway, the number of monsters that a team should kill for them to pass is seven and both of your teams exceeded that number." The guild master said, smiling with a knowing glint in his eyes.
"We, me and the guild’s high ranking hunters, decided to convert the rest to money." He stated, just in time for the door to creak open.
Coco and the others tensed up when they saw the five hunters who acted as the second stage’s passers’ instructors, their footsteps heavy against the floor due to the bags they were carrying.
As they walked, the sound of coins bumping into each other echoed in the room, an indication that there were a lot of coins inside the bags.
Greinzer closed the door after he walked in, but Coco saw that some hunters were peeking inside the room.
Somehow, that made her nerves go haywire.
"The champions of this month’s examinees." A female hunter with silky long black hair and striking bright red eyes walked over to their spot on the couch, a pleased expression on her face. "It’s such an honor to see all of you this close."
"That’s too much, Yuuko." Another female hunter with blonde hair and beautiful green eyes hummed, voice laced with honey. "You’re going to make them uncomfortable."
Yuuko blinked, turned her head in their direction and sighed. "It was really a disappointment that Greinzer got to them first."
"Right?! I just know that he played dirty!" The blonde man who was fuming yesterday when Greinzer got to Coco’s spot first exclaimed, squinting his eyes into a glare as he dropped the bag on the table.
"I did no such thing." Greinzer grunted out and deliberately stepped on the man’s foot as he walked past him.
"Ow!" The man hissed, taking a step back and plopping beside Lukas, his hand shooting straight to his foot to soothe the aching limb. "You’re such a jerk! I can’t believe they managed to deal with you for the whole night and day!"
"That’s enough, Alucard." Mr. Covez sighed and shook his head. "Just give them their rewards. Coco needs to leave after."
"What?"
"Already?"
"So soon?"
The three hunters looked shocked, each of them letting out a sound of surprise.
"I can’t afford to make my husbands wait for my return any longer." Coco spoke up and catched the hunters’ attention, making them look at her in disbelief instead.
"You’re married?" Yuuko asked, frowning.
"Yes, ma’am.. I’m happily married." Coco affirmed, shooting her a strained smile.
"Why are the good ones always taken, Akane?" The black haired hunter sighed, turning to the female blonde hunter who chastised her earlier.
"Because they are good." Akane stated, her voice barely above whisper.
"Anyway! Here’s your reward, Coco dear!" Yuuko was quick to bounce back to her enthusiastic mood and pushed the bag of coins towards Coco. "It’s up to you on how you will divide the coins among your team!"
"Here’s for your team, Ms. Myra." Akana said, pushing the bag Alucard was previously carrying towards Myra.
Coco and Myra took the bags off the table, but Myra showed a little struggle due to the weight while Coco picked the bag up with ease.
"May I ask how much this bag has?" Coco inquired.
"Two thousand gold coins and three hundred silver coins." Mr. Covez answered, leaning back on his chair. "Each monster costs roughly fifty gold coins."
Coco’s jaw slacked from disbelief, her eyes widening in shock at the amount she had just heard.
"What’s with the shocked face, dear?" Yuuko asked, tilting her head. "A single monster that is freshly killed costs a lot more than you would ever earn in a village, you know?"
"I just didn’t expect it.." Coco mumbled, her grip on the bag tightening. "Besides, it’s not just mine."
Lukas and Yura perked up at that.
