Never Just Friends

Ciara’s Counterattack

Ciara’s Counterattack

The peace that Hanna and her friends had found was shattered the moment Emily’s phone buzzed with a notification. They were sitting in the cafeteria, sharing a rare moment of laughter over Emily’s dramatic retelling of a teacher’s botched chemistry experiment, when her face went pale.

“What is it?” Hanna asked, her heart sinking at Emily’s expression.

Emily shoved her phone across the table without a word. Hanna picked it up, dread pooling in her stomach as she read the new post on the student forum.

“Looks like Hanna’s not the only one who likes to lie. How much do we really know about her little sidekick? Funny how the loudest people always have the most to hide.”

Below the post was a photo of Emily with a caption: “Guess who’s been playing both sides all along?”

Emily’s eyes burned with fury as she snatched the phone back. “She’s coming for me now? Seriously?”

Finn leaned forward, his jaw tightening. “It’s a classic move. Divide and conquer. She wants to isolate Hanna by making the rest of us look bad.”

“Well, it’s not going to work,” Emily snapped, her voice trembling with anger. “She’s not going to scare me off.”

“She’s escalating because she’s scared,” Finn said, his voice calm but firm. “She knows we’re closing in, and this is her way of buying time.”

Emily ran a hand through her hair, her anger simmering beneath the surface. “She can try all she wants, but I’m not backing down. She thinks she can just throw dirt at me and everyone will believe her? I’ll prove her wrong.”

Hanna placed a reassuring hand on Emily’s. “We’ll prove her wrong. Together.”

Despite her words, Hanna couldn’t ignore the knot of anxiety tightening in her chest. The attacks were becoming more personal, more calculated. She could see the toll it was taking on Emily, and she hated how powerless she felt to stop it.

That afternoon, the group gathered at Hanna’s house to regroup. Emily paced the living room, her frustration spilling over as she vented.

“I’m sick of this,” Emily said, throwing her hands in the air. “Every time we make progress, she finds a way to drag us back down. What’s it going to take to end this?”

Finn leaned against the wall, his arms crossed. “We keep pushing. We’ve got more on her than she has on us. She’s playing dirty because she’s desperate.”

Hanna nodded, though her mind was racing. “We need to counter this before it gains traction. If people think there’s any truth to what she’s saying about Emily, it could hurt everything we’ve worked for.”

Emily sighed, sinking onto the couch. “I hate that this is even a conversation. Why do we have to defend ourselves against her lies?”

“Because that’s her game,” Finn said. “She thrives on chaos, and she’s trying to make us feel like we’re drowning in it.”

“Then let’s fight fire with fire,” Elordi said, appearing in the doorway with his usual nonchalance. He held up his phone, a sly grin on his face. “I’ve been holding onto something that might just turn the tide.”

Hanna raised an eyebrow. “What is it?”

Elordi shrugged, his smirk deepening. “Let’s just say I’ve got a little recording that shows Ciara in her natural habitat—threatening someone who used to be her friend.”

Emily’s eyes narrowed. “You’ve had this the whole time, and you’re just now bringing it up?”

“Timing is everything,” Elordi replied smoothly. “Besides, it’s better to use it now, when she’s already on the defensive.”

Hanna exchanged a glance with Finn, who gave a subtle nod. “Okay,” she said. “Let’s hear it.”

Elordi pressed play on his phone, and the room fell silent as Ciara’s voice filled the air.

Recording:

“You think you can just walk away from me? Do you have any idea who you’re dealing with? If you cross me, I’ll make sure everyone knows exactly what kind of person you are. Don’t forget—I know all your secrets.”

The group sat in stunned silence as the recording ended. Elordi pocketed his phone, his grin triumphant. “Pretty damning, don’t you think?”

Emily’s expression hardened. “This is exactly what we need. People need to hear who she really is.”

“But we have to be careful,” Finn warned. “If we release this, she’ll hit back even harder. She won’t go down quietly.”

“I don’t care,” Emily said fiercely. “She’s already dragged me into this mess. I’m not going to sit back and let her win.”

Hanna nodded, her resolve solidifying. “We use the recording. But we do it strategically. If we’re going to take her down, we need to make sure she doesn’t get back up.”

As they finalized their plan, Hanna couldn’t shake the feeling that they were walking a dangerous line. But as she looked at her friends—Emily’s fire, Finn’s steadiness, Elordi’s cunning—she felt a spark of hope. Ciara had pushed them to their limits, but together, they were stronger than she ever anticipated.
