Chapter 291 - 283: That Silly Morgan Boy Is Rich Enough
Chapter 291 - 283: That Silly Morgan Boy Is Rich Enough
Aurora Sinclair froze and looked up at him.
"If I’d met you sooner, maybe you wouldn’t have suffered so much."
Alvin Morgan reached out, brushed a strand of hair from her lips, and tucked it behind her ear. His gaze was earnest as he said, "Don’t take what Kevin Whitlock said to heart. I’ve known what kind of person he is since we were children. The Whitlock Family is every bit as ambitious as the Lowell Family."
"Morgan..."
"It’s true that debts must be paid, but when it comes to Kevin Whitlock, you don’t have to hold back!"
A dark glint flashed in Alvin Morgan’s eyes.
The Whitlock Family had been using the Morgan Family’s name to get away with a lot over the years. The Morgans had overlooked it for the sake of their familial ties through marriage. But now they were trying to meddle in his affairs? ’Do they really think I don’t know what they’re up to?’
Alvin Morgan’s smile grew cold.

The Mr. Cheney whom Kevin Whitlock had mentioned was receiving treatment at a high-end nursing home, with all expenses covered by the Whitlock Family.
Once Alvin Morgan found out, he immediately took Aurora Sinclair and Leigh Miles to the nursing home.
When they arrived, Mr. Cheney was in the garden, lying down and sunbathing.
The moment he saw Aurora Sinclair, Mr. Cheney’s eyes flew open. His body began to tremble, an instinctive fear of her taking over.
Standing five steps away, Aurora Sinclair bowed deeply to him at a ninety-degree angle in apology.
Mr. Cheney watched her with a complicated expression for a moment before letting out a bitter laugh. "As long as you’re all right..."
Aurora Sinclair froze, looking up at him as he continued, "You saved my life back then, too. If you hadn’t blocked that knife, I’d be long dead by now..."
His gaze fell on Aurora Sinclair’s left arm, where a long scar from a knife wound was visible.
Alvin Morgan’s pupils constricted as he, too, looked at her arm.
"We will heal you," Aurora Sinclair replied solemnly, pressing her lips together.
Mr. Cheney glanced down at his body and laughed bitterly. "It doesn’t matter. I’ve been used to this for a long time."
But Leigh Miles quickly stepped forward to take his pulse. Then, she took out a set of silver needles from her medical kit and began the treatment.
Long after they had gone, Beta Morgan suddenly doubled back. He pulled a Golden Card from his coat and pressed it into Mr. Cheney’s hand.
"Thank you for not making things difficult for her. This is a small token of my master’s appreciation. The Morgan Family will take full responsibility for all of your future treatments and expenses."
Mr. Cheney stared at the Golden Card in his hand with a complicated expression, then gave a silent smile and closed his eyes.
After Beta had gone, a figure slowly approached Mr. Cheney from behind.
Leaning on the back of a nearby chair, Mr. Cheney stood and performed a respectful Ancient Martial Ceremony. "Your Excellency..."
"That silly Morgan boy certainly has money to burn. Cheney, we split this fifty-fifty."
Mr. Cheney resignedly placed the Golden Card in the newcomer’s hand. "The Young Master of the Morgan Family has truly fallen for your disciple."
"And so what? I’m not impressed with him, anyway."

As the investigation progressed, suspicion mounted that Kevin Whitlock had attempted to murder the Spider Woman and frame Aurora Sinclair.
A rift formed between the Whitlock and Morgan families.
Yvonne Whitlock had been suffering from a massive headache lately. Her relatives from the Whitlock family were constantly being passive-aggressive toward her. Her eldest sister-in-law, in particular, had stormed over to her house, accusing Yvonne’s son of disregarding kinship and trying to get *her* son killed.
After finally seeing the weeping woman out, Yvonne Whitlock immediately called Alvin Morgan, but the line was busy.
She tried calling several more times, only to get a busy signal each time. It was obvious he was intentionally avoiding her.
"Ray Morgan, take me to the Morgan Residence—"
Meanwhile, at the Morgan Residence, Aurora Sinclair and Leigh Miles were studying a chart of the human meridians. Alvin Morgan himself was their test subject, lying on an operating table in Beta Morgan’s laboratory.
Alvin Morgan had pulled several all-nighters on the Spider Woman case and looked terrible, so Aurora Sinclair used it as an excuse to force him to rest.
His body was covered in silver needles, and Aurora Sinclair was beside him, using her Power to repair his meridians.
Alvin Morgan had just fallen asleep when Yvonne Whitlock arrived.
"That brat! How dare he not answer my calls? Where is he?"
"Ma’am, the Master just fell asleep..."
"He dares to sleep?"
Outside, Yvonne Whitlock’s voice grew closer. Then, with a BANG, the laboratory door was thrown open.
Ignoring Beta Morgan’s attempts to stop her, Yvonne Whitlock stormed into the lab, only to be met with the pitiful sight of her son, shirtless and covered in silver needles.
She stopped in her tracks, her furious expression melting into shock. "What is..."
Panicked, Yvonne Whitlock rushed forward. "Son, what’s happened to you?"
Aurora Sinclair’s eyes snapped open, and an invisible force blocked Yvonne Whitlock as she lunged forward.
"Son! Alvin! What’s wrong? Don’t scare your mother..."
"Ma’am, the Master is fine, he’s just asleep," Beta Morgan said, quickly moving to support her by the arm.
"Asleep?"
Benjamin Morgan pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose and said in a somber tone:
"Ma’am, the Master has been searching for evidence to prove Young Master Whitlock’s innocence. He hasn’t slept in three days. He only just fell asleep thanks to Leigh Miles’s acupuncture, and now Aurora is treating his old internal injuries..."
Playing along, Aurora Sinclair nodded. "Morgan... is very tired..."
Yvonne Whitlock’s heart ached as she stared intently at her son.
Benjamin Morgan continued, "This investigation into Young Master Whitlock is, frankly, his own fault. Unfortunately, he was used, and it backfired. Even if he’s ultimately cleared of any connection to the Shadow Organization, he’ll still face charges for dereliction of duty, incitement, and framing someone..."
"Dereliction of duty?"
"During an interrogation, he incited a suspect to accuse Aurora Sinclair of murder. It was all recorded."
Yvonne Whitlock’s expression darkened instantly. Her sister-in-law hadn’t mentioned any of this. A wave of uncontrollable fury washed over her.
"Pip, Beta, take good care of him. And don’t let anyone from the Whitlock family see him."
"Yes, Ma’am."
Yvonne Whitlock stormed out of the Morgan Residence, clearly on her way to the Whitlock estate to settle accounts.
Beta Morgan silently gave Benjamin Morgan a thumbs-up.
’His little brother’s silver tongue and acting skills are good enough to work for the Fourth Master himself.’
After Leigh Miles removed the silver needles from Alvin Morgan’s body, she watched as her senior sister boldly lifted him into her arms and slowly started walking out.
’Suddenly, a wedding scene from TV flashed through her mind. Normally, the groom carries the bride, but in their case...’
’...the bride was carrying the groom?’

「A few days later.」
At another high-level meeting of the Martial Affairs Bureau.
Beta Morgan opened his laptop and played a recording.
"...HAHAHA..."
An eerie female laugh, arrogant and triumphant, was amplified above the din of background noise.
"According to audio analysis, this is the Spider Woman’s laugh from her first night in the detention center. Corroborating with surveillance footage, we can confirm she laughed as she was being returned to her cell after an interrogation. From a psychological standpoint, this type of laughter contains strong undertones of gloating and triumph. What would make her laugh like that? It can only mean one thing: she met an acquaintance who put her at ease. And that person... is the mole."
Beta Morgan paused, his eyes sweeping over everyone in the room before projecting his laptop screen onto the white wall.
Displayed on the wall was a clear relationship chart of the key figures in several recent Kingsford murder cases.
The names were arranged in a pyramid. The person at the very top was marked with a question mark.
Below the question mark were three rows of names. The second row contained three entries: the Spider Woman, the head of the West Family, and a third labeled simply "The Mole."
Below those three entries were the names of several deceased individuals. Only one name, Joyce Guthrie, was circled.
"This row lists the victims of the recent murders in Kingsford, most of whom had ties to the Shadow Organization. Only Joyce Guthrie’s killer seems to be unrelated to them. However, the method of killing and the knife wounds are identical to those of the silver-haired assassin from Maple Leaf Valley..."
"Now that the Spider Woman has taken responsibility for the Maple Leaf Valley incident, we can indirectly prove that Joyce Guthrie was also killed by a Shadow Killer. But the case Joyce was involved in had nothing whatsoever to do with the Shadow Organization. So why would a Shadow Killer want to silence her?"
