Chapter 290 - 282: She’s Not Human
Chapter 290 - 282: She’s Not Human
The interrogation room was silent.
The young agent’s mouth seemed dry, and he kept swallowing. His forehead was covered in sweat.
His eyes were filled with panic, his breathing was shallow and quick, and his hands nervously gripped the fabric of his trousers.
Alvin Morgan, sitting opposite him, was very patient. His face appeared calm, but his gaze was sharp enough to pierce right to the soul.
The young agent’s composure gradually shattered under his stare.
Suddenly, he clutched his chest, collapsed while foaming at the mouth, and began to convulse as if having a seizure.
Alvin Morgan’s expression changed. He rushed forward to help, shouting, "Beta Morgan—"
Agents from outside rushed in.
Half an hour later, the young agent finally regained some consciousness. Looking at Alvin Morgan, he burst into tears.
"Whitlock gave me the remote. He told me to press the button if he was in danger. I thought the collar would just spray some kind of chemical, I didn’t know it was a real bomb... I didn’t mean to..."
His words made the color drain from everyone’s faces. Alvin and Beta Morgan both visibly stiffened.
Afterward, the young agent was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Seeing Alvin Morgan smoking by the window, Beta Morgan asked cautiously, "Sir, is Young Master Whitlock... the mole?"
Alvin Morgan didn’t answer, but his eyes were completely devoid of emotion.
After a long silence, he finally replied in a cold voice, "A mole? Could he be that stupid?"
Beta Morgan was at a loss for words.
Because of the young agent’s testimony, Kevin Whitlock was placed under strict guard in his hospital room.
Although Arthur Whitlock was not implicated, he was temporarily suspended and barred from interfering in the investigation into Kevin Whitlock.

The Martial Affairs Bureau Headquarters.
All senior and special-grade agents were called to a meeting.
An important S-level suspect had been killed. While surveillance footage suggested Kevin Whitlock had acted in self-defense, his insistence on interrogating the prisoner against orders was highly suspicious.
Furthermore, in the audio recording provided by the Morgan Family, he could be heard attempting to coerce a false confession to frame Aurora Sinclair, which made him look even more suspect.
Marshall Shaw’s expression was grim. He swept his gaze over everyone present and said angrily,
"From the Maple Leaf Valley case to the Joyce Guthrie case, Kevin Whitlock has abused his authority in an attempt to imprison innocent people as suspects. The same thing is happening now with the Spider Woman case. His behavior suggests questionable motives. I believe we must thoroughly investigate the relationship between the Whitlock Family and The Shadow Organization."
An agent nodded in agreement.
"I agree we should investigate the Whitlock Family. Assassins from The Shadow Organization are wanted criminals in many countries, all of whom are on high alert. Yet, in recent months, Kingsford has seen a surge in cases involving their assassins. How could they be so brazen without one of the Great Families helping to cover their tracks?"
Although those present were agents of the Martial Affairs Bureau, they were also part of the Martial World, so they naturally knew the identity of the "innocent person" Marshall Shaw had mentioned.
Everyone was cautious because the matter involved her. But the Whitlocks were one of the Seven Great Families and related to the Morgan Family by marriage, making an investigation no simple task.
As if on cue, all eyes turned to Alvin Morgan, who had been sitting in the corner, looking down at his phone.
He was attending as a special investigative consultant.
They had invited him specifically to gauge the Morgan Family’s stance on the matter.
"Young Lord Morgan, do you have any suggestions?" Marshall Shaw asked, bracing himself as all eyes fell on him.
Alvin’s fingers, which had been tapping away, paused. He looked up with an enigmatic expression. "I have no suggestions."
The others in the room exchanged glances, unable to guess what he was thinking.

Kevin Whitlock regained consciousness a week later.
Marshall Shaw immediately went with his team to question him about his motive for interrogating the Spider Woman.
Kevin Whitlock defended himself. "I only went there to re-examine the case. There are still too many inconsistencies in the Maple Leaf Valley and Joyce Guthrie cases. There’s no way the Spider Woman could have pulled it all off alone..."
He was in bad shape, his entire body swathed in bandages, with his left leg being the most severely injured.
The Warner Family had expended immense effort to save it, but he was still left crippled, having lost three of his toes.
Marshall Shaw didn’t believe a word of it. "If you were interrogating her for a case, why weren’t you recording?" he demanded.
"I was recording. You should have found my recorder at the scene."
Marshall Shaw let out a cold laugh. "There was no recorder of yours at the scene."
"Then it must have been blown to bits..."
"Why did you give the detonator to Alden in the monitoring room?"
"What detonator?" Kevin Whitlock froze.
"Still playing dumb? Alden has confessed everything. He said you gave him the detonator for the micro-bomb on the Spider Woman’s neck and told him to press the button if your life was ever in danger..."
"Bullshit! I didn’t put that collar on her. Where would I get a detonator?" Kevin Whitlock roared, ignoring the pain wracking his body.
The intense pain made his features twist in agony.
Marshall Shaw had no choice but to stop the questioning and call for a doctor.
When Kevin Whitlock awoke again, a familiar figure stood before him.
Kevin Whitlock said weakly, "See? Those monsters are incredibly dangerous when they lose control. Aurora Sinclair is just like the Spider Woman. Once she snaps, she’ll turn on anyone, friend or foe..."
"So you deliberately interrogated her, had someone spike her food with a drug to make her go berserk? And after she went berserk, you had someone else detonate her collar, and then you arranged for the kitchen staffer to be hit by a car?"
Alvin Morgan’s gaze was icy, his voice laced with fury.
Kevin Whitlock’s expression faltered. He said anxiously, "It’s true I interrogated her, but I didn’t do the rest. Alvin, we grew up together. You know what kind of person I am. I would never do something so callous, something that treats human life as if it were worthless..."
"Hah... you wouldn’t? Then what about Aurora? Why have you tried to corner her and get her killed time and time again?"
Alvin’s voice was practically shaking with rage. He pulled out his phone and played a recording of Kevin’s conversation with the Spider Woman.
"There’s no way you could have committed all these crimes by yourself. You’re just taking the fall for your master. I already have proof that you aren’t the real killer in the Maple Leaf Valley and Joyce Guthrie cases. I’ve even found out who is..."
"But I can give you a chance. Just name Aurora Sinclair as your accomplice, and I’ll let your master go..."
Kevin Whitlock was speechless, his eyes darting away.
Alvin said furiously, "Kevin, I always thought you just had a problem with Aurora, that you were afraid of her. I never imagined you’d actually want her dead. I told you she’s the woman I love!"
"She’s not human!" Kevin Whitlock suddenly roared.
"She’s a monster, a maniac, a demon—"
"She nearly killed all of us that year!"
"Mr. Cheney saved my life, and in return, she destroyed his meridians, leaving him paralyzed and bedridden to this day! A monster like her should be locked away in a maximum-security cell in the International Penitentiary!"
Kevin Whitlock screamed, his eyes wild with grief and rage.
His shouting seemed to tear his wounds open again, and he curled into a ball in agony.
A voice squeezed out from between his gritted teeth, "I don’t... regret... a single... thing..."
Alvin froze, his fists clenching at his sides. He pressed the call button as he replied, "But don’t forget—she was a victim, too."
The doctors and nurses from outside rushed into the room again.
Seeing Kevin’s condition, one of them scolded loudly, "What is wrong with you? The patient is this seriously injured! Can’t you wait until he’s recovered to question him?"
Alvin murmured an apology and left the room.
Aurora Sinclair was just outside the door, leaning against the wall with her head down like a child being punished in a corner.
She had clearly heard everything Kevin Whitlock said.
Alvin immediately went to her, his heart aching as he pulled her into his arms and comforted her in a low voice, "This isn’t your fault."
Aurora bit her lip and asked guiltily, "Morgan, where is the man he was talking about?"
"I’ll find out for you."
"Back then, I didn’t want to..."
"I know."
Alvin held her tighter, bent down to kiss her hair, and said softly,
"Aurora, do you remember asking me if you were a monster?"
Aurora’s body trembled.
"At the time, I blamed myself. I blamed myself for not meeting you sooner..."
