Chapter 16
Chapter 16
*Jade's pnt. of view*
I woke up and found myself tucked under the sheets with the headache fully gone. I'm not sure what caused the pain but I was glad that it was over. I sat up when I noticed a phone and letter on the night stand near me.
The letter read:
"Dear Jade,
I'm sorry that I can't be here when you wake up, I have to take care of a few things, but I left the room door unlocked so when you wake up feel free to go and find something to eat in the kitchen. I won't be back until tomorrow night so I expect you to be on your best behavior, and also don't even think about escaping because I am watching you, and any misbehaving will be dealt with when I return.
Love Jake."
I found myself rolling my eyes at his idiotic letter, but then I realized that he wasn't going to be here for a few, which gives me enough time to escape.
Even though I was warned, I'm not about to sit around and wait to be found, just like mom taught me bravery, I know I'm brave and smart enough to figure out a way to escape, I just have to scout my surroundings and see what is the severity of my situation.
With that thought in mind I got up and hurried to the bathroom where I washed my face, brush my teeth with a spare toothbrush, then changed back into the same clothes I've been wearing since I got here.
I tied my hair into a bun, I grabbed the phone then headed out of the room. I retraced the steps that I encrypted in my head when I first came to his room, 3 doors down and we took a left from the stairs that would lead to where I was held captive, so I did the opposite. I went 3 doors down and made a right, which led me to a stairwell of 10 flights of stairs which led to the rest of house, that caused me to realize 25 stairs down led to the basement, and ten stairs down led to the rest of the house.
I soon arrived in what I believe is the living room and to be honest I was shocked. The room was well decorated and everything was in sync with the brown and velvety red color theme. From the couch covers to the paintings on the walls, from the carpet on the floor to the artifacts placed randomly around the room.
The sunlight emitting from the window only brought more life into the room, and I couldn't help but look around dazed.
The buzzing of the phone in my pocket is what brought me back to reality, and I instantly got back on my plan knowing that time was wasting.
On my way to the kitchen I checked the phone, just to see that it was a message from Jake that read: "r u awake?"
I completely ignored it and got back on task.
I arrived in the kitchen and headed straight for the fridge which happened to be stocked with food, and it only made me wonder how in the World Jake is able to afford all of this ?
I quickly regained my focus and started working on making myself a simple healthy and light lunch since it's now around 12:00 PM.
I then checked out what could be tested in the house for alarms. The windows of course were triggered and I soon as I opened it, my phone began buzzing and it was Jake calling.
"Hello?" I answered curtly.
"What do you think you're doing?" Was his chill reply.
"Well I was making lunch and I accidentally burned something and the smell was getting to me so I decided to open the window and let some of the smoke out."
"Do you think I'm an idiot Jade?" He question pissed.
"Yes." I replied simply.
I heard him draw in a breath as he tried to calm himself, and I had to bite my lips to keep myself from bursting out in laughter.
"Look Jade I don't have the time for this, I'm trying to be very patient with you but you're making it very difficult, now I have to go, I'll deal with you when I get back."
"I'll deal with you when I get back." I mocked him as he hung up the phone.
Okay so windows are a no no, and I'm definitely not going for the doors. I had to find another way.
As I contemplated another way to come out I headed towards the floor where the room was, and soon enough it came to me.
I looked out the window of the room and realized that there was nothing around it, no wire or remote.
Of course there's no alarm on the second floor or is it third floor? Eh I don't know, neither do I care. I mean who would be stupid enough to jump from a place high off the ground? Well that's what they underestimated, because I'm not stupid, but instead smart enough to do anything for survival, so yes I'm stupid enough to jump off a place high off the ground.
I scanned the surrounding area and if I were to drop myself from the window to the ground, I would have to sneak to the wired fence, climb on top and make a run for it.
The drop from the window is actually not as far as a two story house so the fall is less dangerous, but there's a problem, on top of the fence is barbed wire, then afterwards about 20 feet from the fence to the dense forest surrounding the mansion is dirt which means anyone could easily track my footsteps.
I have my way out, but I can't risk them tracking me that easily.
The wheels started turning in my head until the light bulb dinged, and I realized what I had to do.
There are some tree branches right on top of the fence that seem strong enough to carry my weight, if I can manage to pull myself on that tree branch by balancing myself on the fence, I can easily travel from tree to tree a good few miles away from the mansion which would make it harder for Jake to track me.
With my plan in head, I ran back downstairs and prepared myself a little bag light enough to not slow me down.
I carried two bottles of water, some trail mix bars, a flashlight, a few fruits from the fridge and the phone that Jake left.
After I made sure I was set, I opened the window on the second floor and I waited.
I waited for about 2 minutes and received no call or message from Jake, which meant I was clear to go. I balanced myself on the window pane, then jumped, yes I said jumped, and to my surprise there was no pain present.
I didn't waste a second before I made a run for it although hiding here and there to avoid the cameras that Jake implanted outside the mansion.
When I reached the fence, I easily started climbing it, until I reached the designated height, I then grabbed unto the branch and pulled myself up until I was fully off the fence and safely on the tree.
I took one look back at the mansion then I pulled the phone out and just as I imagined there was a tracking chip in the back. Without hesitation I pulled it out and threw it back in the yard, then I started crawling my way from tree to tree.
I didn't descend the trees until the mansion was no longer visible, once I got down, I drank some water, took a deep breath then I started running.
*Dean's pnt. of view *
I walked into my rooms discouraged and tired.
Ever since Jade's kidnapping I have been spending my days at the Sheriff's office giving every detail I know trying to help them find her.
I have given the same story over and over but they don't seem to believe me, heck now they even think I'm a suspect cause come to find out Daphne was killed the other day, and the killer is still unidentified.
I dragged myself to my bed and closed my eyes as images of Jade instantly flashed before me.
Something I am now used to.
She's all I could think about, her smile, her kindness, her lips, her soft touch, her stubbornness and everything that makes her Jade.
I remember the way I used to felt around her, how I would get jealous whenever another guy would have her attention, how I loved the feeling of having her eyes on me, how I lived having her in my arms even when I got stabbed because of her. I also remember the way she used to hurt me easily, dang she was a strong woman.
I can't seem to get over the guilt of my idiotic actions. I should've known Jake had a motive when he caused me to push her away.
He made it seem like I was protecting her, but instead we all fell for his trap.
I couldn't think of anything else but Jade, I couldn't help but think of what I would do with myself if that Fucker touched her in any way. I had to find her, and if the police won't help me I'll do it myself.
As I started working on a plan, an idea popped in my head, and soon enough I grabbed my jacket and keys and I headed to my next destination.
Don't worry Jade, I'm coming to get you.
