Chapter 829: The Dust Settles

Chapter 829: The Dust Settles

Hai Ge was a step behind Zhang Jiren, heading towards the outside."Brother, what should we do next?" Hai Ge asked quietly, looking at Zhang Jiren with deep respect.

Before Zhang Jiren could answer, they ran into the butler ordered to kill Zhang Furen.

The butler had been delayed after Zhang Wushan ordered him to find two accomplices, causing him to fall behind Zhang Jiren. Otherwise, Zhang Furen would have certainly been killed by the butler, and Zhang Jiren wouldn’t have had the chance to strike.

The butler had intended to sneak in quietly, but was extremely shocked at the sight of Zhang Jiren. After hesitating, he revealed himself.

"Isn’t the man beside the second son the thug named Hai Ge who often bullied the eldest son? How are they together? Does that mean there was more to the story of Hai Ge bullying the eldest son?" The butler seemed to realize something, his expression becoming quite complex.

"Second Young Master." The butler bowed in greeting, refraining from questioning out of curiosity, as he had already understood much of the situation.

Since the second young master was here, the eldest son was definitely in danger. In the Zhang Family enterprise, concerning the issue of who would inherit, the eldest son had found great benefits but also brought upon himself great disaster. Although the butler couldn’t understand how the seemingly innocent second young master had such means and determination, everything proved his guesses correct.

The second young master had been patient for so long; beneath his seemingly harmless expression lurked a ruthless shadow.

"What are you doing here?" Zhang Jiren asked coolly, no longer the obedient person he usually was.

"Please allow me to explain, Second Young Master," the butler said with great respect. "I have come under the orders of the master to end the life of the eldest son."

The butler made no attempt to conceal the truth. Knowing his tracks had been exposed and fearing that he would be silenced by the second young master, he now had to make a choice for the future of himself and his family. If he hadn’t exposed his tracks, he might have temporarily escaped. But the master was growing old, and serving the second young master promised much greater benefits.

Zhang Wushan had nothing left, so the butler knew he had to look forward, resolutely betraying the master.

"Zhang Furen is already dead, and you’ll definitely return empty-handed," Zhang Jiren said meaningfully.

"Just as I suspected, the eldest son is gone," the butler thought to himself. A sharp focus flashed in his cloudy eyes. He knew the second young master’s meaningful words were a test of his position. So he said firmly, "I won’t return empty-handed. I have found the second young master. This is my opportunity. From now on, I shall follow your every command."

"Hmm." Zhang Jiren nodded with satisfaction, then inquired, "It seems you have made your decision. That’s good. Now, what should I do next? I’d like the butler’s advice."

"This?" The butler was taken aback. He knew mere lip service wouldn’t earn the second young master’s trust, so he quickly suggested, "In my opinion, the master is retiring to the background, but even a centipede dies without stiffening and poses a threat of unrest, so it would be most efficient to let the master rest permanently."

The butler eagerly watched the second young master, knowing his suggestion was currently the best one but worried about the second young master’s dissatisfaction, closely monitoring his facial expression.

"Now that’s more like the Zhang Family’s butler," Zhang Jiren laughed. "I can’t commit patricide myself, so I need you to handle it."

"I will handle it flawlessly," the butler promised. He had to do this to assure the second young master of his unwavering allegiance. Hesitation would only lead to suspicion.

It was precisely because of the second young master’s resolute attitude that the butler believed he was trustworthy. If he couldn’t act decisively, the butler wouldn’t have followed him wholeheartedly. After all, old age carries experience, and allowing Zhang Wushan a chance to breathe could lead to great trouble, even a reversal.

Zhang Jiren and his group left, while a fire broke out at Zhang Furen’s residence, erasing all traces and creating the scene of an accidental fire leading to death.

Qiu Wen’s silhouette appeared, watching the raging fire and the departing group led by Zhang Jiren. She appeared extremely relaxed, sighing softly, "Actually, this is for the best. Zhang Furen was harboring dangerous intentions, and his death prevents potential harm to the innocent. If he had gained real power, it would have implicated us irreversibly."

Qiu Wen turned to leave; upheavals foreseen in the Zhang Family were about to unfold. Zhang Jiren’s rise as the head of the family was already an undeniable reality.

Within the Zhang Residence, Zhang Jiren went to rest.

The butler went directly into Zhang Wushan’s room.

"Is it done?" Zhang Wushan, who hadn’t rested, awaited good news. With the Zhang Family enterprise at a critical juncture, he had no peace of mind to rest until his position was secure.

"Everything has been resolved perfectly, leading to a flawless conclusion," the butler replied ambiguously, avoiding a direct answer.

Zhang Wushan inquired with suspicion, "Your expression seems off, what really happened?"

"Nothing," the butler replied dully. "The eldest son is dead, but it wasn’t by my hand."

"Dead is good," Zhang Wushan said with relief, then with surprise remarked, "No, besides me, who else wanted that rebel dead? Who hired the killer?"

"Your son," the butler said bluntly.

"My son?" Zhang Wushan pointed at himself, then understanding, laughed, "Are you saying the rebel killed himself? That doesn’t make sense. That rebel was at a critical point of regained hope and couldn’t be happier, no way would he kill himself. I know him; he definitely wouldn’t commit suicide."

"Master, you have two sons," the butler retorted mockingly.

"What do you mean? Ever since you entered this room, I’ve felt something off about you. Now you’re showing your true colors. What are your intentions?" Zhang Wushan loudly accused, "How dare you slander my child? It’s unforgivable. My son would never do something so foolish."

At this moment, he naturally referred to Zhang Jiren.

"I’m not hoping for you to believe my words. My intention is to make you die understanding. The second young master killed the eldest son and now wants me to kill you," the butler said lightly.

"Impossible, you’re slandering my good son! You audacious scoundrel, thinking of harming me, who gave you the courage?" Zhang Wushan furiously roared.

The butler let out a grim laugh and started to act.

"How dare you!" Zhang Wushan was driven to madness by anger.

Unmoved, the butler suffocated Zhang Wushan.

Until his last breath, Zhang Wushan couldn’t believe all of this was orchestrated by his beloved youngest son, Zhang Jiren. The open-eyed corpse bore witness to his disbelief.
